Hi guys.

I originally pledged for the DDF reward on the Kickstarter campaign and due to limited time I only really had a quick 15 minute play of one of the scenarios during the alpha releases.

I wanted to check out the Beta but the only options I can see when logged into http://store.zaonce.net are to pay £50 to add on the beta or download "Elite: Dangerous - Alpha" from "My Dowloadable Products".

Do I just need to redownload from the Alpha link and it will update to the proper Beta version?

Latter, Frontier updates the launcher via the same link. Simply re-download, run and enjoy!

Enjoy beta.

I get that people are a little disappointed with Beta 1, its certainly a very bare bones game and once you get past a hauler you tend to have more credits than you need and the game feels a bit goalless.
Enough people have pushed the we are testing angle so i wan't reiterate whats been said many time before.
I will however point out that development isn't dead during this phase, With both the island size increase and live economy now running that's just 2 'updates' to the game made without issuing a new client.
We are all frustrated with the bugs that are still in place but the act of still continuing to play gives them valuable server data on how the game is running and the more people that take part the more of a 'stress test' is applied.

I think the problem is the way updates are rolled out. In a typical std beta, you would expect them to come out much more often, so that forums don't get flooded with same and same complaints and problems. I hope forums will get wiped with SB2, and from that moment, the updates will come much more often, otherwise there will not be much to test after first week, and the forums will get flooded with same crap again for yet another month or so.

Yeah, I would quite happily welcome more frequent, smaller updates/bugfixes rather than major releases less often.

Well.. lets assume they know what they do... the major releases have been pretty stable, and if not, they were fixed pretty fast. I just think that the insurance bug was worth an 1.04 patch though.

I'm sure FDEV know what they do, otherwise I wouldn't spend a £100 on premium beta haha! :D

On a more serious note though, yeah I agree. The major ones were quite stable and if that's their release philosophy, that's perfectly fine - we have to deal with it :)

I agree with this too, and so does my still MIA Anaconda.

The previous bugs were fixed pretty fast, no damns given about the insurance bug.
Over 3 weeks now that I've lost my Anaconda and STILL no reaction at all of any kind from anyone.
For the beta being more expensive than the final game am I feeling pretty laughed at now.

We paid for the privilege of access to the product before its finished with all its pluses and minuses.
Incorrect.
You and I paid for the privilege of testing unfinished code of a game that does not yet exist, and to assist in the development process of that code, and to provide feedback on our experiences with that code.
You and I and everyone else here has absolutely, unequivocally, definitely and totally NOT paid for a product.
You and I and everyone else here has absolutely, unequivocally, definitely and totally NOT paid for early access to such product before general release.

I wish people would stop repeating this like it's fact. Can you point me towards FD's terms and conditions where that's clearly stated please? The term "early access" has been used on a number of occasions by their marketing team. From the alpha purchase page....

"Get early access to the game while it is being developed and help us shape Elite: Dangerous!"

Semantics.

What is this whole argument all about again?

::EDIT::

Get a life, people, really. Go outside, chill in a park, go to a pub and have a beer or take your other half for a nice meal. There are so many better things you could be doing rather than this...

Lots of better things you could be doing other than commenting on it :p

Seriously though, I don't care about whether it's early access or testing or whatever. I'm getting what I paid for, and I'm happy with that. But it's not fair or reasonable for people to continually state as though it's a legal fact that people were paying to test the game, and not for early access. It is nowhere near that clear cut, and it's unhelpful to pretend that there isn't room for confusion. It is understandable if people aren't clear.

Beta

Well, it's a Beta. Nowhere i did saw a line of text impliying i'm buying a finished product, before it's finished. I'm happy with the software i'm getting for me buck. Loving it, increasily. And by no means was it cheap. The 75 dollars i've paid, means 850 argentine pesos. That represents roughly the 10% of my monthly income. What i get? the chance to collaborate, although limited, with Frontier to get the Elite game i've dreamed since i played the original back in 83. Can't wait.

That's why I stopped playing a week after the SB release. I got through all the space available, then bought hauler and made some more money, but then realized that all of this is just for nothing, as there will be major reset anyway. There's just nothing to play-test with anymore for me, until the next big update, which will hopefully last a bit longer than a week for me.

Nailed it.
This is the game I've always dreamt of playing too.
The sheer scale of this is mind blowing.
I shall wait until Mr Braben thinks it's ready.

when i paid for this game on the check out screen i noticed that a full retail version of elite dangerous was one of the promises of purchasing the beta. but honestly I would gladly pay full price over again if it would help fund the devs to keep adding more content to this game.

Sooo...given that lovely gameplay demo video that cropped up yesterday with the sexy graphics pass and reorganised HUD, do we think we could be hearing some info on Beta 1.04 or even Beta 2 today?

The demo is lovely indeed but I don't think we'll hear anything today. And the next beta is going to be 2 not 1.04.
