Too bad you can't play Solo-mode without Internet connection. A lightning strike took out a telephone pole next to my house last night and as such i won't have my internet connection back for atleast 2 weeks. :'(

And I was so close to having a Cobra MkIII...

I just had my first glitch......

I had just left Chango Dock with a full load of fish headed for Aulin, went for the Hyperspace jump, engine charged ok but when the animation started the game froze. I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del and stop it that way. Is this a known issue still? I saw it on the list of known bugs so didn't raise a ticket but not sure if it's been listed as fixed?

Also I've noticed the animation for the hyperspace jump and back to super cruise isn't exactly smooth, bit of an immersion killer. Hope this gets improved too.

Just some first impressions that I don't see reference to ... but if there are threads that might help with any of this I'd very much appreciate a heads up ...

1) On arrival into a system, I'm faced with a beautiful sun, that I want to just stare at for a while ... but I can't because within seconds I'll be dropped out of supercruise due to proximity. Seems a shame to go to all the trouble of animating those beautiful suns for us not the be able to look at them

2) Space is a bit ... empty! :) Yeah, I know ... but I just think the background is pretty drab right now, no clouds, no nebula in the distance, no interesting things at all, just static dots for stars. Feels a bit retro, or is that the idea?

3) Supercruise is ok, it works ... but it's so hard to judge & control speed, and with all the yellow lines everywhere it's more like some kind of vector game than a space travel experience. I wanna see the sun, and the moons appear as little dots until I start getting nearer and see features appearing ... I know that happens, but it just doesn't feel like it does because I'm focused entirely on little yellow lines & speed control.

I want to arrive in a system and see the star, marvel at the plantary bodies in the distance, and feel like I'm in a solar system. But I don't.

4) Dropping out of supercruise at a station is a nightmare. Finding the bloody door on a station is a nightmare ... isn't there (or shouldn't there be) some way of knowing the orientation of the station so that you can drop out of supercruise facing the entrance? I bought a docking computer, but if you aren't pretty much aligned with the station entrance it freaks out too and sends me spinning in circles around the door. I sold it because it's actually easier to dock without one.

But essentially, I kind of feel like the majority of my time has been spent looking at the wee yellow lines and my speed in supercruise, and then looking at the ass end of a station trying to find the entrance!!

For a game that looks so pretty, it seems a shame to have all these nice features that don't actually appear much on my screen.

Or do I just utterly suck at flying? :)

Hi there.

Im not sure why you think you cannot simply stop forward momentum, sit still and enjoy whatever scenery is near for as long as you want to?

With regards to things being "hard", everything could be automated but I assume there should be some challenges even in mundane tasks as there would not be much of a game otherwise.

I presume you did not play the original.......

Coz compared to that docking in this one is a piece of ****..............

Managed to dock first time with this one..........

And yes I still have the scars on my forehead from the original..........The blood stained wallpaper went years ago.......Scars remain......

:D

Station rotating anti-clockwise will be ye entrance..............

The station rotation has been used as the main clue for months, basically since stations mad an appearance.

As soon as you learn that knack you can tell which way to go for the entrance from miles away (none of that crap Kilometer rubbish here).

As someone else said nothing stopping you looking at the Sun, just pull back on stick so you don't crash into it and slow right down.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Of course I can stop ... I just don't want to have to drop out of supercruise just to look at stuff.

A simple fix would be to lengthen the distance that the hyperdrive drops us near the star, or let us choose drop distance. There seems to be no good reason for it to drop us so close in the first place, as we need to SC to anywhere in the system we are going.

That's another thing I'm hoping for is more from the navigation experience. Right now it's pretty "gamey" ... look at map, find destination, click destination, go.

I would love a bit more involvement ... having to look at systems, plot where to drop out of hyperdrive (does it have to be near the star?) ... and stuff.

I want to feel like I'm actually flying around in a spaceship, you know?

With regards to things being "hard", everything could be automated but I assume there should be some challenges even in mundane tasks as there would not be much of a game otherwise.

Again ... sorry. I'll be much more specific next time.

I don't mean "it's hard moan whinge" ... I'm talking about gameplay & the immersion. If it'c challenging then great, but right now trying to find the entrance to the station isn't challenging or hard because there doesn't seem to be any skill path for it, or means to improve or monitor improvement ... it's just the luck of the draw where you drop out of SC and then a fairly boring routine of trying to find the opening.

If you find that challenging then fair do's, but I find it pretty dull right now. The game isn't meant to be about finding doors in stations, it's meant to be an immersive spaceship experience ... if I bought a spaceship with a navigation computer that was as random as this I'd take it back. :p

I did actually! Old fart alert.

Yeah, I'm not really looking to compare the ED experience to my Atari 500, or whatever the **** it was! :)

I want big shiny spaceships, with big shiny features & sweet stuff to do ... not focusing on one little corner of the garish & childlike UI desperately trying to find the side of the rubbish looking yellow box with an equally rubbish looking hole.

Sorry, that sounds much more disparaging than I mean to be of the game as a whole. Having spent the last 2 days grinding for a cobra I have enjoyed much of the gameplay. But it's a beta ... and I'm a backer ... and if there's one thing the forum is supposed to do it's to encourage discussion about gameplay & features ... right? ;)

Station rotating anti-clockwise will be ye entrance..............

Not quite sure what you mean there.

I know that the station is rotating coz I seen it with me own two eyes! :D

I have been able to find the entrance on 100% of occassions. ;)

It's just boring.

Stats on loading screen

Amazing game. so much potential and even now a truly enjoyable gaming experience. Thanks for all your hard work.

A small suggestion. Why not have the Stats shown on the initial loading screen after choosing 'Open Play'. This is quite a sparse screen (showing just the ship). You could easily put all the play stats here, splitting the screen into quarters, and still show the rotating ship in the center.

Keep up the great work!

I just broke 1.5 mil last night. I'm loving the little Type 6. I'm amazed so much cargo can be crammed into it. It handles better than the Cobra!

Fantastic game

Hello folks, nothing much to say really, but was just itching to say this to the developers:

Thank you ever so much for creating this game. What a fantastic piece of software this is. I've been thinking about a game like this for like 15 years, but had completely given up it would ever be made, but you've just gone and done it. Even in beta, this game is a monument to space exploration and space combat games. I really must say how much I appreciate the work and vision you guys are putting into this.

I think my gaming needs are set for years now :) When the OR comes out, I'm not sure I'll leave the house again :D

Again, just thank you.

Are we done with updates to beta 1 do you think?

Because comms doesn't work the way it's supposed to in the newsletter (text comms are supposed to be game-wide... how do I even know where my friends are to go into the same system as them?).

Grouping doesn't really work either.

Great game, really enjoying it, but it's still a solo game for me. :(

I don't know, I'd love to see some kind of roadmap - I'd assume that they have a team squashing bugs whilst another works on the next major feature branch.

I'm guessing weekly incremental patches (unless a hotfix is needed) with bigger releases maybe monthly, but then, that doesn't allow for much time to get everything in ready for a late 2014 'Gamma' so maybe it will be accelerated.

Either way, I'm really pleased with what I see right now, but refraining from playing too much until more features arrive so that I can enjoy them without 'burning out' :)

Shat bricks....

Warning Sidewinder pilots...AVOID going to Freeport...never did I have to out-run so many pirates....

However my mood was lightened by the view of some poor cmdr blocking the port-gateway and getting shot by port-authorities. Docking-computers gives you a nice opportunity to enjoy the scenery.

I'd love it if it were true...
