SW: Kotor had 5 planets in 2003 😇

i know that was just mean, but as i said i keep expectations really low regarding how much of a space-game Starfield will be

Edit: Mass Effect had 6

I'll see myself out 😂

There was a leak last year that said there will be around a dozen planets. But it's only a leak soooo.....

They're the ones I have been looking at myself, but it doesn't really give you any information and there's little actual official data available, I will wait for the reviews to start cropping up on youtube, that won't take long once it's released!

You are right, checked and saw that now, however despite some searching I haven't been able to find any information about the number of star systems and what exactly they mean by "exploration". Sure I can explore any game because there are places I have never been in the game, but is it really exploring to visit a city in BDO? Will there be plenty of unexplored stars systems to explore or will we be limited to a small group of already settled systems? There's a lot unsaid about Starfield that leaves me.....doubting it would satisfy my exploration itch, but I will wait until it is released before making a final judgement.
I suspect that many folk are conflating the term 'exploration' with ED's version of it...there's more to the meaning in game terms than blundering around a 1:1 scale representation of our known galaxy :)

I expect exploration not the ED type needle in haystack and roll dice for lucky rng but rather good old fashioned Bethesda worldbuilding where you see the mountain with the curious stones and you go: "Hm, I wonder what that is, let's visit that place."

But is it really truly exploring if you know 10,000 people before you have seen that mountain, walked there, posted the pictures on newsgroups, described the best way and paths and maybe made maps, or is it just touristing? To me exploring is going somewhere nobody has ever been before, and that's simply not possible on any sort of hand crafted game, which is what the Starfield maps appear to mainly be, everything will have been visited already, nothing new to find, no new discoveries, you are actually not discovering anything.

There are two different meaning to exploration, one can be as simple as taking a map and exploring the interesting shops and alley ways of a big city, which seems to be the sort of exploration you are looking for, the other is heading out into the unknown hoping to find new stuff in previously unvisited territory that may be hard to reach or just take a long time, there are many different types of explorers and exploration. Sure of that suits you find, play it and enjoy it, but I would become annoyed pretty quickly if I could look online and see that thousands of people had already been to that mountain and kicked those curious stones around already!

10.000 people? Don't tell me Starfield is going to be a MP only game.

I'll play the hell out of Starfield, just like I did with Skyrim, ALL of the Fallouts, EDH, Cyberpunk, Conan, Outerworlds, Wartales, Ascent, etc. etc. etc.

I have money and free time, and TV isn't a thing any more.

Is it going to replace EDH/O?, I don't really care. It's just new.

I played Red Dead Redemption 2 without knowing much about it and was amazed at the size of the game world. Although the game has a great story to follow, being able to go off and find all the unmarked places in the totally believable setting is what makes it for me. I'm still astounded after finishing the main story and watching videos of the secrets contained in the game, how much I actually missed! I shall not be reading any spoilers for Starfield. :)

Sooo, did I hear them say the game is doing the whole choice-of-multiple-starting-points-with-tailored-introductory-quest-lines, a'la e.g. Dragon Age: Origins, and more recently Cyberpunk 2077, or was that just about the manners in which one eventually comes into contact with each faction? :7

This guy thinks so.

On the other hand - it doesn't matter to me how many people played it before and posted about it. A game is my leisure and I discover what's there without needing to connect to blogs and online stuff to experience a game. This stuff is for when I can't figure out something or look for new ways to approach something. Pristine worlds are an illusion mostly and true uniqueness comes mostly with procedural solutions and rolling the dice if you get lucky with interesting generation. Crafted worlds are just that - ready to be discovered in your own pace, regardless whether someone figured out the hidden easter eggs, the dev room or climbed the tallest peak before. When you play it's just you discovering what's there.

Same with spoilers. You wouldn't be spoiled if you didn't seek out the spoiler generally.

Armchair guess:

They'll make a map mess title just like all their other ones, but instead of plains, rivers, tundra to ride horses through, it will be some approximation of space.
Planets could be something new, self contained maps of any size.

Hopefully. If they copy the bioware formula instead that would be complete DOA. I did my time with the bioware formula, and after getting 6 games worth of it in swtor im very very very done with it.

Yeah it's definitely a title I am going to have to wait and see with.

Looks great, although hobbled by Bethesda frame rate and frame pacing issues. Assume the bigger the save file, the worse performance gets.

Still it's Gamepass so no reason not to try it.
