Well, technically they shouldn't be pitch black. It isn't pitch black on earth. But it is somewhat jarring the way it gets lighter, it needs to be much smoother. Hopefully the new lighting system in Q4 will help with that.

It wasn't pitch black in the game, either. It just looked like night time. They were using "pitch black" as shorthand for "very dark". Now the shadow side of a planet won't be dark. That's bad.

Quick test of the Chieftain (6A thrusters non-engineered)...still plenty of drift but now easier to counter with vert/lat thrusters. Lat thrusters still a little weak, vert thrusters fine. Not sure it's going to replace my FAS in a hurry.

  • Notoriety now updates periodically during gameplay (reducing by 1 unit per hour of gameplay)

First this seems too quick? A day of non-stop CMDR seal clubbing can be undone within 24hrs? ie: Surely if you've destroyed a dozen CMDRs for the lolz, you shouldn't be clean again in half a day? It should be week(s)? For example, 1 notoriety decay per day?

As for game time? Makes no difference, so suggest real time instead. ie: Just leave yourself docked in a station over night and voila?

Because the earth as an atmosphere that scatters starlight and moonlight to provide a small amount of ambient light, this doesn't happen on airless bodies, it should be quite dark and areas that aren't directly lit by any reasonably large light source should be completely black. Also remember that you are seeing from ground level, the ground is quite dark when seen from above at night with no moon in the sky.

However it was to dark for some people. Personally I quite liked it, but that's me.

What we really need is surface radar as seen in sci-fi movies. I actually spoke about this with Chris Gregory during FX2017, he pointed out that actual issue is that while pitch black looks awesome, most people just won't know where to go. Then he threw out that he actually like this kind of idea in style of original Elite - showing white lines for curves, gradients and stuff when flying in darkness.

I don't want to have to wait until Q4 to be able to drive my SRV around in the dark again!

The dark side of planets are supposed to be dark! If you fly around to the dark side of the planet, why is it suddenly as bright as the side that is facing the star? Now there's a chance that pitch black could be 100% dark and the patch note means it's now 90% dark. That would be fine, but I bet it means 40%.

Ok, I actually like these changes to C&P, because it won't allow murderers just throw money at their notoriety. That was one major issue which now seems to be addressed.

Instead they just have to sit in a station and leave the game running while they go have their dinner for an hour or so or watch film or something.

That's not how development works though :)

But I feel pain of loss of darkness. Let's hope it comes back in Q4.

Before that they had just to log out and do same thing.

That was my reaction too, but check out the following line just after that one.

Oh I see ... interesting ... bold even. This is a response to the argument that a financial penalty for griefing is no penalty at all (because "they" have infinite money) presumably.

nods head repeatedly veerrry interesting.

You don't make a change from how the game currently is, just so you can fix that change in ~8 months time!

Errr, beigification? They have prior!

More ammo for shock cannons pls. Like MOAR AMMO. To match damage pull with engeneered cannons at least. (12/1200 would be nice)

Yeah. And if they're at notariety 10, they can just eat 10 dinners or watch 5 films. NBD.

Perfect!

With the addition of a heat reduction to Railguns, this is turning out to be a really fantastic balance patch for Engineers. It makes it possible to reproduce others' builds with a reasonable amount of effort, and removes the luck factor that divided the community into lucky "haves" and unlucky "have nots." I firmly believe this will increase diversity of builds -- people can try wacky new things with less of an up-front time investment, and with a knowledge they will be able to actually achieve their planned build.

Really great and I'm really looking forward to this going live.

Also my HOTAS is packed away for an upcoming house move, so I can't say myself, but people were commenting that the Chieftan's laterals were a bit crummy. This buff may also make that ship properly viable, again increasing diversity of build choices, which is a very good thing. Thank you to everyone at FD for your hard work on this patch and for listening to the community.

Hello!
Thank you very much for translating the names of materials from brokers into Russian.

But the engineers did not have any visible changes.

You do a change because while partially desired effect has appeared it does not work for everybody. And people already blast FD about not caring about 'all types of players'.

And glitching out planetary surface lighting up is not really desired, it looked broken every time I approached starports in beta.

Well I mean they will still be Wanted after all that time and will need to pay off their bounty. The timer just ensures that there is No Way they can clear their wanted status until X hours of good behavior have passed first.

  • Some Railgun Experimental Effects under the new system now all have a 40% heat reduction applied (applies to Feedback Cascade, Super Penetrator, Plasma slug)

This is nice but, why not also for Plasma Accelerators? I am a fan of Plasma Slug Accelerators (this is now a word :D) and absolutely would love a 40% heat reduction on the experimental, too! :)
