BGS changes: Learnings/Issues/comments

It's not in the beta yet, so nobody knows.

For reference, in current live you can still affect influence like normal if thargs are in the system/ stations are damaged.

Edit: this is why I'm not too fussed. Besides my usual opinions about this sort of thing, in anticipating this to be a good thing, much like outbreak/famine given the effects on a damaged station. I even requested a cg put one of my factions into a damaged state (And the cg was to ship goods *into* the station rather than out, which is more fun than your usual A-B trade cg.) For completeness there was a parallel cg to pirate metals/minerals tied to the attack.

With the proviso that it needs to be tested, it might be a defensively useful as UA bombing, though I'd epect happiness to be reduced by being on fire

Hello Commanders,

As we announced last week, the new Thargoid Incursion state will be coming with Beyond - Chapter Four. I'll be joined by Lead Designer Adam Bourke-Waite to talk a little bit about the Background Simulation, the new Incursion state and the introduction of the new Thargoid Conflict Zones.

Livestream details

  • Topic - Thargoid Conflict Zones
  • Date – 22 November 2018
  • Time – 19:00 (UTC)
  • WhereClick here!
See you there!

Thought you folks might be interested.

From the BGS patch notes in Beta 4:

"Pirate attacks and outbreaks will now occur automatically"

Wait ... "pirate attacks"? Another new BGS state, perhaps?

EDIT: *apparently* this was just a typo and it has now been corrected to read "outbreaks will now occur automatically".

...but maybe later

Do we know what triggers the current pirate-infested systems? I've come across a few such systems here and there but didn't have a chance to investigate.

Civil Unrest or Lockdown state on the controlling faction
(and no War/Civil War state on any other faction, or you probably get CZs in those spots instead)

Will Ch 4's BGS changes allow a PMF to change government type - e.g., from Anarchy to something else?

Meh,

what I would like to see to tie in powerplay a little more with the BGS is the ability to change superpower allegiance.

Wont ever happen though.

So... the latest livestream was a bit ... difficult.

Early in the stream: "Thargoid incursion state locks the influence in the system between factions"

Later on the stream: "Can Thargoid Incursion be used as defense, given that influence will be locked?"

A: "Influence won't be frozen, and has bad effect on security and happiness..."

So which is it?

Are you sure about that first one? I only heard Adam say early on that Conflict locks the influence, then later that Incursion doesn't. But, of course, I may have missed something. I may need to listen again :D

I did not understand that either. One thing that was made clear is that on live day, all states are going to be reset to [NONE] but influence levels remain as they are.
