Black screen when exiting the game, anyone else get this?

Yup - If I 'close to desktop' it quits fine - if I 'close to main menu' then press exit, it hangs and I have to go to task manager every time!

Getting this all the time when exiting the game since the last update. The only solution is to kill the game client via task manager.

I get it every time I exit. Sometimes it locks up until I close the game process, sometimes it shows a screenshot from up to an hour earlier in the game and then closes.

Black screen, frozen in game pictures, it’s annoying and exit takes a long time like the memory is full of garbage it can’t get rid off.

We do have a benchmark though - in the form of Horizons. Frontier told us that performance should be very similar (can't remember the exact wording, I'm sure that went through their legal department first though), yet.. it's anything but. If both EDH and EDO run like a dog on your hardware then yeah I can see how you're perfectly happy albeit in blissful ignorance of how much worse EDO performs in comparison. It also means that whoever is unsure about EDO's state to take your posts with a massive pinch of salt because of that.

As for X4 - it's out and patched for a while now, so I doubt I'll have the same problems as with EDO... but lesson learned, don't buy Frontier's products on release anymore let alone pre-order. Fwiw my experience with CP2077 has been smoother for sure despite its issues (and bought at launch) - and CDPR's patches seem to generally improve things and not make things worse as is so often the case with Frontier (this thread being a case in point).

Type-8 update, Aug/2024 -- I am now getting the Black Screen when exiting the game, like for 99% of the time.

Is it back again? Anyone else?

It only seems to happen to me just before an update is due, it happened just before the last update but hasn't happened since, but that's been happening since I got the game.

This used to happen to me quite frequently but not for the past 3 months at least. I am still on win 10.

I started getting it again after the latest update.

I might try to verify the installation, however, as it only seems to happen with Steam client.

For what it's worth I had this exact same problem, it started a week or so ago for me. Yesterday, at wits end I decided to completely nuke my graphics folder (in the Elite Dangerous "Options" directory), shut the computer down and rebooted it, started the game up and let it recreate the folder then I went in and reset all my settings. Never had the problem since, not once!. Try it, it's a simple possible fix.

32 gigs of 5000MHz DDR5 ram
RTX 4080 Super GPU
No overclocking
