Bomb Bay suggestion

Closest thing you will come to dropping bombs in this game.

Well, other than mines.

Mine launchers have no way to aim them, you kinda have to guess with those

You aim them the same way you'd aim bombs.

Why use crude bombs that are useless when you have guided missiles? The only reason we have bombs irl is our gravity and the fact guidance and propulsion are super expensive. No such issues in 3300, so why bother?

Higher payload ratio. Propulsion and avionics always detract from payload.

Mines also reflect this in game.

Also mines have a surprisingly large blast radius, which makes them great for taking out skimmers. It's also a barrel of laughs getting caught in the blast of your own ion disruptor mines, when you're doing a high speed low altitude bombing run.

Well, since you asked, might I suggest this?

It is New Year's after all....

IF FD choose to make the game expand as far into planetary content as they potentially could, there would be a place for bombardment ordnance, which there currently isn't apart from - as has already been mentioned - creative use of a mine launcher in sometimes-inappropriate places.

But if they are going to introduce for-real bombing have 'em do it right -make it possible to do laydown and toss approaches, include both guided and dumb bombs, on airless worlds everything is a "slick" but with atmospheres include bombing and DEFINITELY model the frag pattern to penalize the overenthusiastic cmdr who lays down a slick below minimum altitude....

Plus, think of the fun for canyon-racers of BIFing the guy behind you...

I like the idea of every ship getting some sort of missile bay, or pylons like we had in Elite 2 and 3. Ideally something that doesn't take up existing hard points. Anyone remember the photo base missions or blowing them up with nuke missiles? Really miss those along with a massive swarm of military ships chasing you after you fly past. :)

I love it! FD should out this on the list. Also need to develop ground bases to make this more worthwhile, but ground bases definitely need more work.

you mean like those strange pods on the Type 10 ?

ok, he's coming in on our tailpipe down this canyon and there's that ridge ahead... Setting 2kt yield, hi-drag. Switches hot.......

Pickle, Pickle, Pickle! Go COLA, Pilot!

Bombers

Cool idea, a dedicated bomber is an under utilized aspect of of Elite: Dangerous. The game features many multi role craft but no dedicated bomber/missile/torpedo for anti; capital ship, Corvette, orbital or planetary base strikes. The bomber having the cargo space being filled with many more bombs or torpedo's, and using the cargo scoop as a targeting computer is a great and simple idea that is achievable. This feature will flesh out the squadron idea by giving specific roles for players of the game. The roles being Interceptor, fighter and bomber. For example, in combat, these roles could be; interceptors clearing the path, fighters escort bombers, the bombers taking down larger targets.

And don't forget SRV's racing through the dead zone to deploy ground troops with ACTUAL legs at the objective.

Mmmmmm.

Yes exactly a bomb will travel in one direction which is; towards its target, aimed by the attacking pilot. The bomb could be propelled via the crafts electromagnetic propulsion launching system (just like in star wars; x wing, tie fighter, xvt, TLJ) giving the bomb the push it needs to reach it's target. The only problem is; the bomb in low to no gravity will travel slowly, compared to a missile or rocket, in one direction until it's influenced by it's target resulting in an explosion. The lack of speed of the bomb can be easily shot down by defences, this can be traded off by a large capacity of stored bombs deployed in low altitude high speed bombing runs resulting in high damage capability by the ones that slip through defenses.
