Bored of the game already

It's simple if you feel it lacks depth and find the game boring then don't play.

If you're finding plenty of things to do and enjoying yourself then continue playing.

The biggest problem I have with the game is there's too much for ME to do and I just can't do it all.

So the your main problem seems to be.... flying around? What did you expect when you bought ED? It's a space ship sim so flying around is a big part of the game.... And by the way, in order to find bounty you need to fly around.
It's the type of flying around that's boring. It's not involved enough to make it exciting (no zipping through Asteroid fields at breakneck speeds like in Wing Commander, for example) and it's just involved enough to keep me from being able to look away while approaching a target that's hundreds or thousands of lightseconds away.

All this is normal.
We are in the "sort out" phase between people who knew exactly why they came to play Elite Dangerous, others who came by without knowing anything and others who have thought that it would be World of Spaceships or Eve Online with driving ships. This has been imho also induced by the misunderstanding about the "MMO" used by Frontier and by trailers like the last one. The ones who came with wrong expectations are of course disappointed and will probably move on to something else.
In three months from now it will be settled ...

Wonderfull post. have a rep!

And just to clarify, let's take a pirate hunting mission as an example.

So, I find the system in question and then cruise along until an USS pops up. Biggest challenge: Not overshooting the USS (i.e. no challenge at all)
Then I'm running across either:
- a waste dump
- some cargo containers I don't pick up lest I want to smuggle stuff (because for some reason, unclaimed containers all count as stolen - even if they're floating in the middle of nowhere)
- a funeral procession
- a wedding procession
- a technology "trader"
- some guys in ships who are all clean
- finally some wanted guys harassing a trader. Of those, I get one or two, the rest warp off. Maybe the guys I nailed even count towards mission progression.

The last part is what I wanted. The other findings? Highly annoying after the 10th repetition.

Supercruise got it flaws but it's needed to give the player the scale of the systems (alpha centuri good exemple).
Most player tend to supercruise in straight line with throttle in blue bar, imo that's the wrong way of doing it because it takes too much time you don't have anyhting else to do. Instead i tend to go full throttle and use main stellar bodies to reduce my speed: more fun less time win/win.
Previous patch you had the nightmare interdictions that gave challenge in supercruise, forcing people to not fly slowy and straight, but then came the whine and now interdiction seems to never happen. So Dev can't please everybody sadly.....

.
Agree that USS need more agressive models (pirates, big bad cruiser, destroyed outpost with some ships flying by would be cool)

For the canisters, the way i see it, every canister is bought in station or outpost, so they are identified as bought by a ship captain. If they float in the middle of somewhere they're still indentified in relation to the previous captain. This lead to some good things for frontier to add: salvage license in order to get cargo and bring back to owner (station) or dealer with the right module to make the canister unindentified.

Am I doing something wrong?

I was enjoying the game and everything, but right after buying a cobra, it hit me that I'm just grinding over and over...
There really isn't much to do in the game other than trading, bounty hunting and exploration, which are really just doing the same thing over and over.
I've seen a few players in game on my radar, but that's it. No chat, no interaction at all.

Is the game really this shallow?
Please tell me what do you guys do to enjoy this game...

No, you are simply observing what many others have already: The game is saturated with bugs, lacks depth, but is full of repetitive grinding steps with little reward. Even the guys at StarCitizen have taken note of the greasefire. I'm sure they realize now they have no competition.

I wonder how many of those people who find the game boring and feel it has not enough content have played more than a hundred of hours (even hundreds of hours) already... playing nonstop at "weekends" grinding just to get the biggest ships and burned out even before the 1.0 came out.

If you play this game a way you play your "usuall mmorpg" you will get bored for sure because there is not enough carrot on a stick(..yet..) and no "endgame raid" to rush to keep you interested for thousands of hours with a "daily grind of ten hours" ,Nor there is "arena pvp" or city hub where you can flashing proudly with your fancy ship and skill. I think this game should be played with the mindset of a "flight sim gamer" instead of a "mmorpg gamer" than it would last longer so maybe the frequent updates would be enough to keep you interested until the next expansion.

edit: I wish there would be a way to check the posters logged time ingame like at steam that would be funny to see thread titles like these "I am bored with the game already - posted by John Smith - 1134.4 hrs on record" :)

I've played only some hours, single-digit probably. Gave me enough time to identify the game mechanics as lacking, though.

Enjoy the journey. You raced to get a Cobra without appreciating the sights and events, now you have the Cobra, it's 'what now?'.

If one the other hand you play the game to enjoy journeys instead of destinations, you will find a lot more enjoyment. Just like real life.

Let's see.

Trading is basically a lot of flying around. Which, due to the supercruise mechanic, I find not so exciting.
Mining? Flying around, in the hopes of finding something worthwhile. Biggest challenge? Grabbing the containers. For some reason, those are bouncing right off something even when I have it straight in the crosshairs and am not too fast.
Exploration? Yay! More flying around.
Missions? Flying around ... again. Depending on the mission, maybe even aimlessly (USSs, I'm looking at you!)
Bounty hunting? It may be that there are more challenging ships out there - but the ones I had across my sights didn't even try. Biggest threat from those? That they'd warp away before I nailed them.

And, for the "sandbox" guys: No. It's not a sandbox. Minecraft is a sandbox. Space Engineers is a sandbox. Hell, Eve Online is a sandbox. This here? Not a sandbox, at least not currently.

And, yes, I played the original. Doesn't mean that everything back then was better - I'm suspecting quite a few people look upon it through rose-tinted glasses. This is supposed to be a game, folks, for a broad audience and not a niche market like "Eurotruck Simulator".

As for the "but it's supposed to be realistic!"-crowd: You're flying a spacecraft at multiple c through space. Current science suggests that FTL is most likely unobtainable (I've seen calculations that even if you were able to produce exotic matter, you'd still need to convert a mass the size of Jupiter to pure energy in order to power the drive...)

And so on and so forth. Currently most mechanics hold no challenge for me. It's merely consisting of timesinks and the "challenge" of a blank map.

New article suggests the amount of matter needed would be significantly less than you mentioned.

Sorry folks if you don't like our complaints just move on please. There are threads out there which give you what you want. To those with a little patience just ignore thread you don't like. Stop this boring posting of being bored about people who are bored.

This is what I was hoping to be able to do. So much so that I invested in a Warthog HOTAS setup with rudder pedals. But as many people here have already stated, there is nowhere near enough depth to the various game mechanics to allow this approach. This is especially true of regular "flying around, taking in the sights" type stuff - the flight model is about as complex as StarFox was back in the day. I can spend hours in X-Plane or DCS just learning to fly, landing properly, learning the planes systems. Took me 10 minutes in ED to be proficient. Suppose I could execute every landing with FA off for kicks, that's not easy...?

The problem is real life isn't this boring at all. Real life has stuff going on, I can interact with it. People are asking for features (that are coming..) that make it more realistic and like real life, and a bunch of people are like nah.. space is gonna be more boring i love it! Maybe it's your perspective that's skewed. If you didn't plan on playing this game any deeper than a walking simulator of course your satisfied.

Maybe I'm weird but I've been playing for several months now and I've not been bored for a second, in fact I don't have the time to do all the stuff I want to, theres always somewhere new to explore or some profitable mission that pulls me from my plans and takes me to a new place. :)

To the op from everything I've gathered on the forum they are shooting for having a lot more of the mechanics and things to do around Easter. If you burn out that's a good time to check back in. If that plan holds that's when I would consider the game released. The "foundation" everyone refers to, is at this time not functioning as intended so I'd expect Jan 1 to be the closest shot at a bug free working as intended game. Honestly now if you do explore the mechanics that give the game flavor you'll bump into something broken or nonsensical and it'll rip you out of the game. I totally understand why people get aggrivated at that, and if that's the case for you then I'd give it some time. Eventually this game will deliver a full experience.

That isn't weird, it's just at this time the sandbox only really accommodates your playstyle. People that want deeper mechanics and more involved play are not satisfied, and since its the eventual goal I think it's a reasonable criticism.

I agree its not a simulator like the modules at DCS ( I wouldn't mind it:) ) but still... with "sim gamer mindset" this game last a longer I think maybe you have to like exploring the space also .
