Bored of the game already

As many already said here, it is a different kind of game than all those 8h shooters. Let me give an example of a very different but similar game. It's called OGame (popular in germany) and it is a web based MMO played only via tables. The only thing you can do is building mines (and some others buildings), do some research for better weapons and to raid other players. We played it for months and we are still motivated since we want to become bigger and bigger, more ships, even better buildings etc. Elite was from it's first version very similar, I played it because I want better weapons or ships. So, here is the problem, we need more ships, more expensive ships. They don't need to be MUCH better, only a bit, but we must have a goal to fight for. If you've bought a Viper with some good weapons for head hunting, then you are finished, and this happens after a few days of playing. We need more expensive goals. That's Elite. Everything else is not Elite, then just play another game.

Am I doing something wrong?

I was enjoying the game and everything, but right after buying a cobra, it hit me that I'm just grinding over and over...
There really isn't much to do in the game other than trading, bounty hunting and exploration, which are really just doing the same thing over and over.
I've seen a few players in game on my radar, but that's it. No chat, no interaction at all.

Is the game really this shallow?
Please tell me what do you guys do to enjoy this game...

Your instincts serve you well..don't let all the hippie rose colored glasses and glass half full fanbois wear you down. Call it like you see it.

Yeah i agree with OP.

Games really boring i cant really find an excuse to play it anymore, i find it about as much fun as playing Fronteir Elite on the amiga, which if you want to be honest is really boring here in 2014-2015.

Seems like just a Giant lifeless universe where you accept drab missions to buy a better ship to accept more drab missions. Maybe it will get better if they add walking around stations or whatever but right now im not very impressed, other then the graphics have improved on the original game. Game is about as imersive as universe sandbox. As far as using your imagination thats a great plan if your in 1985 on a commodore but i think my computer is capable of leaving little to the imagination here in 2015 which is better. I can stare at a wall and use my imagination. It really is better not to have to use your imagination in a computer game too much unless of course you have 22K and live in 1985.

great this is a remake and all but really the game-play doesn't seem much more fun then if this was the original, original was a good game because it had an excuse it was limited by technology. This is just a prettier game with the same gameplay, not much more depth.

Well at least i still have hope for star citizen.

+1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did the same thing as you OP, got myself a cobra, did all kinds of missions, bounty hunting, trading in Type 6, fully upgraded my cobra, explored, did assassination missions and now am playing Pay Day 2. You are welcome to join me if you want.

+1 with OP. I currently find myself spending more time 'playing' in the Elite forums than the actual game because I'm a bit burned out grinding money for the next bigger ship. Still a long way to go and i already know it's just same old soup because I gonna use it to grind the next bigger ship. And to get to my fully fighter fitted Cobra i would have to go 215Ly just to get it. Do i really feel like wasting an hour or two to get back? The game is sooo incomplete and lifeless. So i rather spend my time reading the forum, it's more fun and more live than anything in the game at all. And *play* Kerbal Space Program. As sad as that is (not KSP).

Sorry folks if you dont get it just move on please . Theres a game out there for you Im sure that gives you what you want . To those with a little patience just rest for a couple months and come back . Stop this boreing posting that your bored please its just boreing.

You mean when the game moves out of Alpha? If you are bored reading threads like these, then it seems rather insane that you appear to want to continue reading them and then complain about reading them. You do not speak for the masses. It appears the masses are speaking up and they are not happy with the present "release version" of the game. There is nothing to be gained from posting that you think no content is somehow cool and groundbreaking in it's utter simplicity....lol.

The game was released too early and everyone knows it. I didn't buy this game to fly around the universe pretending I'm in a game. I bought it to play a game and be immersed in space combat and be drawn into the promised living breathing universe I was told about. Not that I had to imagine!!

This is what I was hoping to be able to do. So much so that I invested in a Warthog HOTAS setup with rudder pedals. But as many people here have already stated, there is nowhere near enough depth to the various game mechanics to allow this approach. This is especially true of regular "flying around, taking in the sights" type stuff - the flight model is about as complex as StarFox was back in the day. I can spend hours in X-Plane or DCS just learning to fly, landing properly, learning the planes systems. Took me 10 minutes in ED to be proficient. Suppose I could execute every landing with FA off for kicks, that's not easy...?

congrats Viking! You are now Elite! You win!
i agree with you of course. This is pretty shallow in the sim department. Click launch, fly ship.

Don't waste time talking to them. Its useless. Lets just wait and see, as this game either fails, or becomes more appealing for the masses.

As soon as I bought my lakon 6 I had to talk myself into playing more and more but no, I'm done at least for now. So many star systems and space stations and yet it is utterly devoid of any life at all. It is like that movie ‘the Langoliers’, the world looks perfect and everything looks as it should but the cakes are without taste, the fizzy drinks are flat and nothing is living or breathing. The news network gives an illusion of life but they are just words on a screen designed to give the illusion of life to something that as yet is still very asleep.

I stopped playing today the moment I was waiting to leave a port and the reason...

I looked across into the cockpit of another Lakon 6 and to my dismay; I noted that the cockpit was empty. I tried to imagine that the pilot was making a quick toilet break but there was no escaping the fact that just like there are no people in the windows around me in the station, there are no people flying the ships either. The only person in the universe is little old “whiny care-bear “me and any ships being piloted by other humans are being done so without any graphical representation that they are even there in the game at all.

So, for this one, back to Space Engineers, happy trails, (to my adoring fans) I will be back in the spring or summer. Perhaps then there will be some more additions that give more than just shallow options to trade till the eyes bleed, mine rocks until you wish for death and do all the others things that do nothing other than make you tired and sleepy, much like a Prozac…

This has been a total disappointment and after all the hype, I did try but – a near bedroom outfit like Space engineers has pulled off what Elite has so far not been able to do – that is just amazing (in a bad way)

I get why people are bored, and I see their point of view, but to be honest I'm having a blast with the game since launch. I'm finding it so much fun and I even think about playing when I'm not playing. Maybe it's because I didn't play in beta or gamma so it's all new to me yet and I'm not "burned out". I don't know. I've owned a Sidewinder, an Eagle, an Adder, a Cobra, and am currently working my way up to an Asp by hauling goods in a Lakon 6 all over the galaxy. So while I agree the game could use some fleshing out, I'm having a ball so far living out my virtual career as space pilot.

I'm anything but bored, quite the opposite actually, and I'm sorry to hear that not everyone is feeling the same way.

Yeah but is that going to stop them from trying to make it into a different game that suits them? Nah

This x1000. I suspect the bulk of the buyer's remorse / boredom complaints are from general gamers that were NEVER flight-sim / space-sim fans to begin with. They complain docking is tedious. They moan that flying in supercruise is like watching paint dry. They whine that interdictions are too hard. They drone that it takes too long to fly to anywhere. And they miss the point that you can Malcolm Reynolds the hell out of this game- fly wherever the hell you want, do whatever the hell you want. And it's as grindy as *you* want it to be.

And they constantly about the game's learning curve and that every bit of game knowledge isn't laid out for them. And they can't be bothered to read Forger's pilot's guide, or watch a Rezri or LG4F Twitch stream or Isinona's YouTube videos.

This game simply isn't for them.

No actually the space sim fans are the ones who are complaining!
The SPACE SIM fans not the space trucker 2014 fans or space engine fans.
Most of the sim crowd think the game is TOO EASY. There is not enough actual flight sim to the space sim.
That is why we think it's boring. This game is at best "arcade sim". An arcade game trying to be sim like. The galaxy may be simulated but what you need to do to get from A to B is arcade. No skill required. Space flight is boring because all you have to do is hit jump and hold your joystick in one position. No worrying about systems, radar, etc. interdictions are easily avoided and npc's are no challenge unless maybe if you go up against an elite Anaconda with a sidewinder.

missions are not interesting and there is no feedback from the universe around you. It does not feel alive which is what a SIM is suppose to feel like. Sheesh. This is not ANYTHING like a flight sim...sorry to burst your bubble. Anyone who plays DCS sims or Falcon 4.0 etc will fall off their chair laughing at your statement.

It shouldn't take that long to go station to station in that system (100KLs average distance), I was doing the same but now I average 6-7 minutes after reading these guides:

http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/2cqz9h/the_art_of_supercruising/
http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/2q3h6z/how_to_supercruise_faster_and_save_time/

And you can always pack things and move to a smaller system, there are a few good one near like Eravate o Yakabugai

Any doubt drop me a PM

Cheers for that post.

Yes I did and spat beer out ahh gone are the days when you could knock someone out with a sims pilot manual. Yes this is NO sim
