Bring on the DOOM!

MechWarrior 5 has ship interiors, good combat, co-op, a VR mod and NO GRIND.
I didn't know that existed till now, I'm going to check it out. Also, I've mulled inwardly about Mechs being the solution to the cockpit immersion crowd, for whom on foot breaks their immersion, Mechs would still allow for cockpit control and continuation of immersion, and would also be very cool to see in the game...

Here's an idea.

CIG could buy out FD with their millions!

Then CIG will announce they are merging the codebases for ED and SC, and rebooting them as a new product, Elite Citizen.

CIG promise to handcraft the whole galaxy with maximum fidelity, they just need another 500000000 years and and a pledge from the whole planet to make it happen.
Everyone claps. Thought about CIG too, though I think they would just want the talent for SC and shut Elite down at the first opportunity, eliminating their main competitor. They are also, apparently, opening a studio in the UK? Coincidence?? Or maybe they want to switch to the Cobra engine for SC. :D

It's how much of that they'd want to spend on a game that with the best will in the world, isn't going to have the biggest player base you'll ever see.
We mustn't listen to hype...

Plus, Starfield is going to be a bigger seller than Skyrim according to Phil Spencer. Not sure where ED would fit in there.
Listens to hype...

The Elite franchise has huge scope to crossover into other media given the will and means to do so.

If it is a buy out, I’m hoping for Microsoft, or even Take 2 interactive. Someone with extreamly deep pockets that see the potential being wasted by Fdev glacial speed of production.

DB wouldn't sell Elite, It's his project from the 80's. It's like a Back to the Future remake.. won't happen.
I think in any sale, if David Braben wasn't ready to pass on the franchise, a part of the negotiation would center around Elite and his continued ownership of the IP and how they will approach further development under that umbrella.

Elite is now an FPS game. I don't think we're seeing any major developments in the future for the space ships part.. Unfortunately Odyseey doesn't grab me, still enjoy Horizons though.

So we have today...

So the underground is buzzing that Frontier are remaining silent as they arrange to sell out...

Is it to Tencent? Shall we be playing ED on our mobiles, with lootboxes every jump?

More exciting DOOM news as it breaks...

Stay tuned!

(yes, it is humour!)
Low share price buy out threat, I called that a week ago:
[snip] As it stands the company's Market cap (price of shares times number of shares issued) has went from ~£1.2675B in the weeks before Odyssey launch, to an estimated £526m today. Odyssee isn't the only bad actor, but I imagine a bunch of well healed gamers throwing money at arx and copies of the game would have taken a lot of the sting out of the game, especially since the Odyssee update would have brought in a lot of players normally found outside of the Space Ship Genre had it been more VR and RPG centric.

I'm not savouring any schatenfreude here, I just wish the company would "come to its senses" and make the game we are asking for so we can buy into it and throw money at them via microtransactions as we become ever more invested in it, rather than watch them keep taking consecutive kickings in the market putting them in a position where a hostile take over from the like of Electronic Rectum is a realistic and potential threat, especiall given how well the F1 management title would dovetail into the EA portfolio.

Ok, so is that the main income of Elite overall, or just the main income after purchase?
Frontier’s main income for Elite is through new game sales, after your game purchase you can play for free.
Frontier needs to keep coming up with new game sales or new DLC.
