Bring on the DOOM!

People that think it's ripe for takeover should be buying then. Easy profit. 🤷‍♂️
It's a bit more complicated than buying a used mondeo off of autotrader. Even decimated as it's share price is, I believe the market cap (company value) is still a shade north of half a billion pounds ($800m). The best the average forumite could do is sink a couple of grand into FDEV stock and hope to get a healthy markup if either the stock rebounds from it's current £13 lull to it's £32 hey days, or that they get a silly good offer from someone as part of a hostile takeover bid. This latter format would likely be we'll give you five grand of our shares for your three grand of FDEV. Most investors take the five grand, it becomes five and a half when the purchaser makes the annoucement that they've acquired the "victim" company. Soemtimes the five grand might become four and a half as the purchaser will have issued new shares and dilute their own shareprice somewhat, but even if it plays out like that, the targets shareholders still get a really good exit.

It'll be a sad day if this happens.
I'd also say that the grass is not always greener on the other side either.

I'm not a big fan of big companies creating a monopoly, even of two as things seem.
I think gaming will suffer for it overall and it will stifle creativity in the long term as the focus shifts more towards money and safer options.

We had a chance here but we blew it, simply because we could never agree or allow things to live up to their true potential. And, of course, when things don't go our way, we hamstring the game by telling others not to support it, repeatedly...
Yet, we wonder how we got here.
Ringing a bell with anyone?
Just a casual observance of the thing that cannot be.

This situation is not our fault!

By loitering here and sharing our opinions we are giving FDev invaluable market research, for free. Our opinions expressed here are valuable data that should be captured by their burgeoning "Community Management Team and fed back to business/product management. For nigh on a decade we've been telling them waht we want, and they've done their own thing. Now they've thrown the VR players under a bus in pursuit of the fortnite playerbase's money and wondered why their mediocre grindfest gameplay with exorbitant hardware requirements hasn't set the world ablaze? And you dare to insinuate we did this?

No. This isn't on us, no matter how toxically polarized this "community" is, and trust me, as a VR refugee, and survivor of the first great VR war, I've no illusions that this place is a supportive and or cohesive community, the schatenfreude we've waded through would actually tarnish one's opinion of us as a species nevermid this forum as a "community".

To be honest it wouldn't be the first time Microsoft getting annoyed at a development team buy them out take over development and release a final product, it's how Freelancer was made after the person who started it got feature creep. Just happens to be the "same person" who is creating SC 🤣

After the complete cockup that's the Odyssey launch I can see DB cursing his luck and who knows after all these years he might be thinking enough is enough, as he's the CEO all it would take is a health care or some big company issuing a legal challenge for a product that should be out by now 🤔

Yes, i do and believe so.. Simply because you consider your (as with others) concerns greater than everyone elses and when the focus moves to something some ppl don't like then the drama. begins... like always... regardless of who says what.
The game is not allowed to breathe and far too much hate.
There is very little room for critical thinking on these forums as to when some things may or may not be possible, if ever, even if told no.
It is "i want now" rather than "can it be done now?" or "is it possible?"..
The word "demand" is not often used but that's what it equates to while muck is thrown, like a child who does not get its way.
The forum needs to grow up and stop pooping on the game because no good will come from it.

I think the postponement of the new Jurassic World movie to tie in with the game was the bigger financial hit.

That was one of it.

EDO failed launch means little sales plus 6 months of crunching - those devs were working over budget (they estimated 1 month of work post launch of JWE2 to iron out whatever bugs. EDO is still burning money on devs- or at least it was - things seem to slow down a lot in the last 2 months)

Then they spent a lot with marketing and distribution channels for EDO, JWE2 and Lemnis Gate.
While JWE2 sales eventually went past 1 million copies, the other 2 titles had meh sales.

I just hope Braben's love for Elite will keep it running. Usually corporations are quite fast in removing any sources of losses

And bear in mind that the stock price was sitting steadily at around £10-12 until the pandemic share panic caused investment companies to shift their money in to anything tech/entertainment related, which pushed it up to the £30 range. It was never to do with the actual value of the company. Now those investors have moved their holdings back to their traditional markets the price has dropped back to the range it started from. The delayed JWE tie-in and less than anticipated Odyssey sales have moved it down a little within that range but they weren't the main drivers. If the company grows steadily from here, which there are plenty of signs it will, then it may get back to those heady heights in a few years time.

Oh well, not worth wasting your VR campaigning effort here any more then, is it? (Not that I noticed anyone being thrown under any particular bus, but drama is always good!)

Perhaps it is a good time to buy a space game in alpha and go protest on their forum for the next few years that they haven't introduced the promised VR? You could ask all of the other VR tagged campaigners to come along with you, strength in numbers, and all that...

I used to post here ALOT, started in 2016. But i stopped that about 1.5 years ago because this place wound me up so much. it actually made me start hating the game. This forum changed... it used to be fun once, then it got politcal and whingy.

Ive found that im a much happier man now since i cut out all forms of social media from my life and that includes this place.
i still read it on and off and i post the odd 'what not' here and there, but basically im disengaged and uninvested.

Still Play ED though.
here here, true that

Call me a ghoul, but for me it became better than the game.

Maybe because theorycrafting deep rooted issues allowed me to overlook things for longer than normal.

Or perhaps I'm just insane.
