Community Event / Creation Buckyball Racing Club Presents: Prison Brake (07.08.3303 - 13.08.3303)

ha, ha, ha ... I still feel sick from this launch... watch from 1:30

...

Well, I've seen worse. You made it out in one piece, so what's the problem?

Regarding my status: didn't manage to start a run today either, but at least had the time for a beauty shot with the Rubber Duck in front of Kelleam Ring:

Sorry but, weren't you the one mocking Alec Turner for his daring choice of a colour palette? :p

Because this is too much fun to pass up.

- Cmdr name : Jintosh
- Race class : Regulation Eagle
- Ship name : Slip Shod
- Ship type : Eagle MkII

I've tried the route a couple of times as practice, and so far I'm two interdiction attempts for two... :)

Welcome and most of all, good luck!

After a wife interdiction and many other hitches here is run...

- Cmdr Cheetah
- Unlimited
- Starglider
- Imp Courier

Did you husband-logged? :D

Evening updates for the Open Unlimited leaderboard:

A small crowd of old and new pilots gathered behind the round 18:00 set by cmdr ZX Spectrum, instantly doubling the number of competitors: first of the lower half is cmdr Sulu bringing another Courier, the Cellerina, to a stop at Kelleam ring with the respectable time of 18:23. More than two minutes behind him we find an old acquaintance of the BRC in the person of cmdr Tannik Seldon, of "traverse an entire planet by srv because I just blew up my ship" fame! The capable pilot tries to add some variety to the current Courier-owned leaderboard by completing a run in his Keelback, "The Million-To-One Chance". A time of 20:46 is something to take note of, if made in a Keelback.
Another two minutes behind Tannik we welcome regular Buckyballer cmdr Cheetah in his (yet another) Courier, the Star Glider, completing his first run of the course in 22:52. Closing the group of new entries we finally find cmdr Codger and his (yet another!) Courier Jackalope, with a leisurely but nonetheless valid time of 26:55. Remember pilots, any run you can walk away from is a good run!

I am eager to see. :) Maybe we can do a side-by-side video.

Done!

Alec (left) vs. Jak (right)

Full race

Mitterand Hollow (direct approach vs. looped approach)

I really like these split screen videos! They're time consuming as hell to produce but the results are fascinating.

Edit: for those that are interested I did these by downloading ffmpeg from http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ and then running the following command from the 'bin' directory of the extracted archive:

ffmpeg -i left-video.mp4 -i right-video.mp4 -lavfi [0:v][1:v]hstack,scale=1920:-1 -pix_fmt yuv420p -an combined-video.mp4

In order to get the videos in sync I first edited each one with Windows Movie maker to trim them down such that some easily recognisable moment (e.g. the moment of launch) started at exactly the same time in both.

Full race (alas we took a different route so not as interesting as it might have been)

Um, I see us both going: Ekhi, Atagat, Epsilon Indi, Slink's Eye. No?

So I had to fuel scoop, which put me behind by default. To demonstrate which approach was fast, I'd have sync'd up at some arbitrary distance out (say, 200ls) rather than when we left the previous system.

No, you're quite right. Don't know why I thought it was different. I've edited my original post now.

I'll see what I can do!
