Bugs Galore

lol lol lol

The Auto Undock from the advanced docking computer fails the exit in asteroid bases. It rams the struts depending on the launch pad

Yet another update not ready for prime time.
1: Mysterious 10CR restock bug
2: Module priorities reset to 1 on some instance changes.
3: Frame rate massive hit for no reason I can see. I could always get solid 60FPS using adaptive sync on GTX970, now I can get 35FPS inside stations.

Poor FD, very poor, even for you.
This sort of thing never happened in the past. :)

gtx 1070 here, 35 fps inside station and it gives me eyesore since im used to 144hz monitor
major hotfix needed, game is unplayable for me

For the moment try to set the 'Trails' feature in your corresponding (low, med, high) FX section to 0 (from whatever value it had before) in the GraphicsConfiguration.xml file.
Did some testing earlier today with the all the FX feature settings on my lowend GTX 960/4GB and that seems to be the main culprit for the frame drops here.

This is incredibly disappointing. I FINALLY convinced my friend to start playing after almost a YEAR of trying, and now he won't play because the update broke the game.

PLEASE Frontier....you have to do better than this.

How did the update break the game? If you're experiencing low frame rates (which in itself isn't "broken") try setting FX Quality to "Off" in display settings.

The obvious bugs and glitches to him are signs of shoddy workmanship and he doesn't want to waste time or money on a game that's been poorly made.

I haven't experienced a frame rate drop, but I play on PS4.

Such as? I can see a FPS knock, which the team are working to fix. Apart from that.. I haven't seen anything "obvious." And certainly nothing game breaking.
Then he has a very poor grasp of software development, and software patch days in particular.
His choice.
So bugs and glitches; things that are par for the course with every single software program in existence; implies it's poorly made? Okay. Well, he's free to believe what he wants; even if it is rooted in ignorance.

Now, you can delude yourself that framerate cannot "break" the game, i.e. that 20-30 fps isn't an issue for you since you enjoy slideshows and Powerpoint presentations, but in reality it is a gamebreaker for normal people. Framerate also happens to be critical for VR users. Like, below a certain framerate, VR is literally unusable.

Have you tried turning FX Quality to "off" which seems to solve the issue for now? With VR, the FX Quality doesn't really matter - I don't see any real differences across the Rift/Vive/Pimax5+ with it on or off quality wise.

You don't have to be salty because somebody doesn't like something you do.
Assuming this was directed at me: I'm neither irritable, nor angry. So, no salt here. I am however, highly critical of people who are willfully ignorant.
As a developer myself, having people insult the work that I do through their own ignorance can be somewhat offensive; as I imagine it might be for a Frontier developer reading that his or her work is "poorly made" or of "shoddy workmanship" because ED has what all games, all software has; bugs.

It's not ignorant to expect a fully working product if you're expected to pay full price for it.

And as someone who's line of work demands perfection on a daily basis, I don't accept bugs and glitches as par for the course. If you're on the fence about a product then bugs and glitches aren't going to sway you to hop over. I don't blame him and neither should you.

I'm done "trying" fixes until they deploy their patch next week or whenever they feel like it. The framerate was by far not the only problem I had, including but not limited to not even being able to change my ship since the game refused to load my shipyard list, repeatedly, game resetting my module priority so that deploying hardpoints turned off stuff that wasn't supposed to be turned off, was unable to resupply my ship, repeatedly getting missions sending me 200ly away all of a sudden. Ah, yes, the new auto-dock computer did its very best to permanently implant my T9 into the slot of a Coriolis station. Saw AI T9s also doing the same shortly after. You know, totally normal non-breaking stuff I guess. I'd rather go play something else since apparently they are not in a particular hurry to fix anything. No plans on firing up the game again before they do so.

Edit: The Issues Tracker you linked to is down completely now. Figures...

ED is fully working; but like all software, it has a bugs; and like all software on patch day, they've got some hotfixing to do. Again, par for the course since the first bug was ever made.

...I don't accept bugs and glitches as par for the course.
That's just unrealistic. There is no such thing as bug free software.
Bugs and glitches are normal in software development, whether we like it or not (and as a developer, I probably like it even less than you do, lol).
Now, it is reasonable to expect the product to work and not be consistently downed by bugs, and with that, Elite: Dangerous passes.

There are a few iffy bugs that the devs are working on from this update; again, patch day yesterday, so bugs cropped up that weren't picked up in testing.
It's really not fair to attribute "shoddy workmanship" or "poorly made" to ED because some bugs cropped up on patch day.

I tolerate them as a reasonable person but if you're on the fence about a product then bugs and glitches aren't going to sway you to hop over.
For me, it depends on how severe the bugs and glitches are and how long they've been there; but then my decision is based on experience so I look at it differently.

I don't blame him and neither should you.
If his position was reasonable, or at the very least, not based on misconceptions, or ignorance, I wouldn't but it's not.

Anyway, I've said my piece.

Have a good evening, Cmdr. o7

His position is reasonable if you don't look at it through the lens that you are. Iffy on the product and off put by bugs is perfectly reasonable. If the game was less buggy, he might have bought it.

That's your prerogative of course - I'm just trying to offer a suggestion to get you back playing which seems to have worked for others. :/

I'm afraid I don't have any influence over that, just being a volunteer, however I will ping FD and alert them.

I'm getting the FPS reduction too (from fairly steady 140fps ish to about 59 at times.) It can mostly be seen near stations, where the frame rate starts off fine but gradually reduces from about 140 down over 10-15 seconds.

I've noticed it isn't happening in the training scenarios though, which run as well as they ever did - including the ones near stations such as travel/docking training. It doesn't seem to be the graphics setting as such therefore as these are the same in the main game and in the training scenarios?
