Can anyone tell me why we can't get a deer?

And me wanting a North American deer that's actually deer-like😭
Moose and reindeer are also associated with Europe, so they don't count. And then we have the red deer and European fallow deer, which represent Europe, too
Thing is... The North american deer are boring. Mule and White tailed?

You're thinking way too basic, though. When people say they don't like certain deer because it's boring, it's superficial; they aren't seeing all of the qualities.

White-tailed deer are the most versatile deer alive. Found all across 2 continents (North and South America), they are found in a variety of ecosystems: forests, swamps, scrubland, tropical forests, grasslands. They may look basic, but then again we don't really even have a basic deer (red deer are huge, so I wouldn't count them)

Elk, with their majestic, yet haunting bugles. They look like red deer, but their sounds are amazing. Imagine hearing it in-game

And mule deer...
I actually don't know much about them, but I bet they have great qualities, too

Question, how would be y'all rank potential SA deers?

The deers disponible on SA are:
Pudus
Marsh deer
Brocket deers
Pampas deer
White tail deer

My personal ranking would be:
Southern pudu = Marsh deer > white tail deer > grey brocket deer > pampas deed > other pudus and brockets
A Brocket or Pudu, don’t care which. We just need a tiny deer. Edit: Then White-Tailed

Elk i do want. WTD is just...

Huemul is important in Patagonia. There is a recovery projects going on with them because their populations (and range) have decreased a lot.

Marsh deer is the most interesting to me though. I would love the marsh deer but i can already hear the uproar of the community if we get that instead of the other more wanted swamp deer: the Pere David deer.

If we get one deer, and no other ungulates: northern red muntjac (deals with the severe underrepresentation of ungulates from India and China, gives a smaller ungulate to Southeast Asia, morphologically unique, common in zoos, mixes well with several in-game animals, interesting vocalizations.)

If we get one deer, but we also get a blackbuck or other Indian antelope species: either still the muntjac or Pere David's deer (with an antelope at least giving one mid-sized ungulate to India, I'd go for the unique habitat and conservation story of this beautiful icon for China).

Not a lot of demand for Indian deer but the barasingha, hog deer and Eld's deer would all make great choices to go with the rhino, water buffalo, etc. For India, the barasingha is a huge conservation icon, similar to Pere David's in China (but without as strong a zoo angle). Hog deer, on the other hand, are a conservation crisis that gets little attention. From being the most abundant deer species of northern India, hog deer have quietly disappeared from much of their range. Axis deer (more generalist) and sambar still do well but the hog deer has suffered.

If support continues for a long time, then I'd say a pudu is most interesting for me out of the non-Asian deer.

Aw man, as an Aussie I disagree so much! We have invasive deer here and I know they're a problem, but I loved seeing them when I went camping as a kid. I think deer are exotic and special, and they're excellent zoo "filler" animals that can be mixed with so many other species.

I've love a white tailed deer or a wapiti, or an Indian species like Barasingha or Sambar. Even a little Rusa deer or the Marsh deer.

Well we have axis and blackbuck as invasive here and they are so beautiful haha So i get that.

I guess my issue with NA animals and small forest critters is that i've been overexposed to them through media all my life so i'm saturated with them and don't really find then very interesting. And there are always more interesting options like the Indian deers or even the red deer.

I do like elk (wapiti) though.
