Can anyone tell me why we can't get a deer?

I know that they're technically not real deer. But I'd love a Musk deer. It's both small and has fangs. And since it's not a deer it's be a completely new taxa, aside from Mouse deer and cetaceans, which I don't think we're getting, I think it's the last major ungulate taxa were missing.
Mouse deer seem just as likely as musk deer but these are functionally fairly different to proper deer still wouldnt mind seeing them ingame.

After all wonderfulness of Eurasia pack and current events with updating the statuses for scimitar oryxes and saigas I have realized I want my amazing Père David’s deer even more than ever.

I would love for people to see how unique and interesting this species is and how his conservation history shaped the modern conservation efforts.

It’s a true miracle that this species is still with us today and it’s history is truly remarkable and inspiring.

It won’t be easy to incorporate this species to the packs that people request most right now but maybe an endangered animal pack is something that could actually happen and include also Secretary bird and tree kangaroo.

Frontier and all dear friends please let’s make Pere David’s deer happen for us all to enjoy!

This icon of conservation efforts worldwide looks best in the summmer orange coat.

I’m so with this. Throw in my lion-tailed macaque (an enormous conservation icon in India, the focal species of a huge campaign to block the destruction of Western Ghats rainforests, even graduated off of the World’s 25 Most Endangered Primates list) and Endangered Animal Pack can bring a lot of the last bit of love we need for Asia.

Probably one of my unpopular but personally really like animals is the Sika deer. These are actually really common in both big and small zoos from what I have seen and would help give Temperate Asia and specifically Japan quite a boost. I'll admit they aren't too unique from the other deer we have but I think they are a pretty staple zoo animal that would fill a nice niche for a future clone pick.View attachment 377931
That one's super majestic! I want them after seeing him!
It's funny I didn't want them too well even though IRL they are special to me since I met some at a sanctuary*.
*I hope they rescue some of their animals... I think they truly care about their animals however, it could maybe fall into the classification of Roadside zoo...

Vietnamese sika that is also extinct in the wild is quite popular in European zoos. Beautiful animal.

There are basically four types of deer that I would really want to see:

Chital: For an Indian section in a zoo, this is basically a requirement. Certainly in India they are the most commonly kept animal in zoos, and they are kept in many other places beside. They can also be mixed with a big variety of other animals, including elephants, rhinos and peafowl.
Visayan spotted deer: My favourite option for a Southeast Asian deer is this species, with its short legs and adaptations for dense rainforest. My local zoo has a breeding group of them and I find them one of the prettier deer species.
A smaller Asian deer: My top choice is the tufted deer (because it would really stand out with its jet-black colouring when mixed with the red panda), followed by the Chinese water deer. By contrast, the Reeve's muntjac does practically nothing for me - I've seen them alive twice in a zoo, but more often the only time I see them is as carcasses being fed to carnivores. They are also a really common feral species around here that come into gardens, so they feel even less exotic than fallow or red deer.
Southern pudu: The only non-Asian deer I have any interest in - would add an ideal species for South America that is not a tropical animal, and would also be an excellent option for a smaller deer.

 I think the spotted ones are prettier in general!

Add a white-tailed, mule, marsh or Andean Deer?
So a more typical New World Deer and a Pere David's Deer and a Mouse Deer. I can never have enough Deers!
Poor muntjacs... :(

The mixed habitat of tufted deer and red panda is one of my most wanted habitats, and I have been looking forward to the arrival of tufted deer.

This weekend I plan to tell you some special stories about deer.
I have already told this story on the forums... But it was the night before Easter (my favorite holiday and the actually the ultimate reason for Christmas). I was driving home from work and I see these elegant pale dogs... They moved with such effortlessness. Only they were not dogs. I realized once I had slowed down for them that they were actually a herd of deer! Idk what kind? But they were so cool to see. One of my top 5 animal encounters of all time.

All I really want is the reeve's muntjac to mix with my red pandas 🙏

I also think NA deserves a deer. I would prefer the white-tailed to the wapiti because it's more different to the red deer. Both would be fine though.

The Père David's deer would not be a bad inclusion but I don't need them.

Hahaha……trust me, bro, most people haven't heard of it... For example, all the current PD deer are actually the offspring of a "great father."

For deers, I would like to have Reeve's Muntjac, Pere David's Deer, and Red Brocket (I think its appearance is quite unusual among deers). I also like to have Greater Mouse-deer to enrich Southeast Asian ungulates although it is not true deer

It's honestly really hard to pick "a" deer species. Deer make great filler animals. There are a bunch I'd like for various reasons;
  • Reeve's muntjac, for the red panda mix. This isn't a mix I've actually seen myself in real life, but I love the idea of it.
  • Sika deer. I adore Japan, and between the macaque, crane, and a sika deer (and a raccoon dog would be nice, but alas) I could build a nice little Japanese section.
  • Père David's deer, an obvious conservation icon.
  • Southern pudu, a nice little filler animal for South America.
  • Roe deer, probably the most 'boring' of the bunch, a species I'd like simply because they're everywhere in Scotland and that's where I build most of my zoos (still wish we could get the Eurasian wildcat for a similar reason).
  • Barasingha, chital, sambar - all great species to fill in India.
Just give me all of them, please. I want to be spoiled for choice.

If there's just one more deer to be had, I'm a really big advocate for northern red muntjac, formerly known as Indian muntjac. It has most of the same upsides as Reeves's muntjac but with covers more regions (India and Southeast Asia, in addition to China), biomes (tropical, grassland & temperate), and interspecies mixes (still gets the red panda, but also all the Indian and mainland SE Asian ungulates).
