I'm not much of a miner, sure, hanging in ice/rocky rings is cool because they are pretty but I do not find genuinely mining enjoyable, so I don't do much of it. As such I am amazed to see someone of your intellect fall into the "I mine almost exclusively through necessity and not for fun" trap? The two things you acquire from mining are materials and credits, plenty of other ways to get both in-game. For example, if you are mining to stock up on chemicals, deep core mining isn't the most efficient way to get them, laser strip mining is faster - which is basically flying through a ring lasering every rock you can and having your swarm of collector limpets collect everything. A slightly more engaging way is to run passenger missions to surface beacons at fumeroles, ice geisers etc, then you scan the beacon, land, drop the SRV, go harvest that site for all the chrystaline shards, piscoeus cobbles etc, You realise there's only a handful of "models" of deep core asteroids, at this time I cannot recall is it 1 or is it 4, so you can learn to recognise them in the passing.
If it credits you are after, Elite's economy is awash with credits, there is no need or necessity, play the GAME, have FUN, don't turn it into a job, the only two activities I can think of in Elite that yo don't make money at are PvP and maybe Thargoid Hunting - but if you are good AX and hit don't pick up too much damage against higher tier interceptors I think even that slightly more than "washes its face"?
