Challenger = Chieftain = Crusader, Krait = Python... What's the point?

I stated earlier (in this thread?) there was no reason for me to test the challenger. I stand corrected. I did so anyway and decided it suits my combat style better than the chieftain. Its slower than the chieftain but I like having more firepower. A hybrid build with leanings toward the hull tank side, its fun to ram my opponents then blast them with 5 double shot frag cannons while I'm up close: 1200 dps.

I agree, it's a chieftain with a bit more beef. Although it has a tiny touch LESS firepower (The Chieftain has a large where the Challenger has a medium), and a tiny touch less speed, it has a LOT more utility, as I can achieve my requisite 43% to all resists with 2 MRPs, and still carry an SRV and Disco scanner. Something only it and the python can do, as medium ships, iirc. It's the perfect combat mission runner in hybrid spec.

Only if your goal is to haul cargo missions to outposts.
Regardless of the destination a python will outhaul a krait so I'm not sure I understand your reasoning here.

The Challenger has 2 meduims in trade for the Chieftains large, giving it the potentail DPS edge depending on setup.

It's all subjective the pythons a terrible ship for me, not quite tanky or agile enough to tick any of my personal boxes except as a target. The Krait on the other hand is really good fun, it's an absolute pleasure to fly purely based on the feel.

I really like the variety of the Alliance and Fed ships. I think the logical answer is: if someone sees no need do try a different ship because it's too similar or has not enough USPs, just don't do it. There are others who find great joy in it. Also I love playing multi crew with 3 seats.

Cheiftain krait challenger all great but the crusader was one too many. And probably would have been fine if there was other things to get excited about in the patch.

In a spaceship game more spaceships is always good, it's the single biggest content injection you can have.

The courier is fine. Terrible laterals is it's problem. But who cares sometimes. I use mine for medium range surface prospecting now with dad booster. So nice to get in that cockpit. Sounds great. What it does need is not a mk 2 but a ship kit with inverted wings that point forward. Basically a ship kit that gives you loads of options to make it look more like a contemporary fighter to fit that cockpit and sound

Problem is the same cockpit otherwise I agree

In regards to crusader

I imagine the crusader is great if you're a noob and you want your first slf capable ship that isn't a keelback

Does anyone think the crusader is worth the time and effort to test? What makes it unique and special? I said the same thing about the challenger and got my answer after testing it. But I'm done with putting SLF on med ships.

I agree with you on the Krait being a better ship to fly but the Python does have another 68t extra cargo capacity over the krait, and if you are a hauler like me I have to stick with the Python.

What we need is something the same price as fdl. Same better acceleration but lower top speed. Equivilant lateral thrusters. But a hull tank but two instead of one huge hardpoint. And protected thrusters. Packhounds are just an easy win button verses alliance ships. I've had my thrusters and weapons cheesed out by packs with 70% hull. And module reinforcement doesn't protect them

Frags are a good example of this. 2 med frags have considerable more DPS than 1 large: (416>320)

And considering the only viable counter to packs is a fdl type top speed to boost away from them the alliance ships are literally without defense

I agree that the Krait is a much better flight experience, but when hauling I don't really need that when hauling compared to the objectively better capacity of the python. For me, utility beats flight profile for that task.

From cousins and friends, I've heard that romping around in Main Battle Tanks ruins both your hearing, and your kidneys.

I'll stick with the Python, thanks. They have bathrooms....
