Cheating

I don't think he was implying that because only the ELW were mapped that it must have been the work of cheaters. But then again I suppose we're missing a lot of context here. I would assume that he was talking about a time when such forms of cheating was more rampant and such cases were being reported.

Yeah I did some exploration before that change. You needed to lock star as target and go to scanning range. Many times I did not bother. Just went for most valuable planets, and that was it. From nowadays viewpoint some would later come to some system with my early tags and think "cheater"...
This post seems to be someone who thought exactly that, until they learned in the replies about how the older mechanic worked.

They did implied exactly that...

That's why talking about cheating on the forums is a really bad idea.
Because a lot of people either dont know about old mechanics or they dont understand certain game mechanics and yell Cheater! when they come around something they dont understand.
And nothing good gets out of it since usually it's the innocent people that get witch-hunted.

It invariably happened every single time when someone stirred the cheating pot.

You only have to read the comments on the cheat tool page to see that half the comments are regarding the grind of Elite.

Extended jump has always been highlighted as an unsafe hack with high possibility of a ban.

When the CMDR in the Baluga protested about the use of cheating by blocking a entrance of a station with infinite shields. I was worried that the game that has become a major part of my free time, would decend in to a cheating nightmare. But it never did!

I think the majority of Elite players enjoy what the game is, yeah we all have personal ideas for improving it. But the majority would never dream of using the cheat tool. The tiny majority that would. Are also those that would not still be playing 6 months on. Simply because they are the type of player that wants instant satisfaction. Even with the cheat tool, the game still has a major grind to achieving certain aims and this detracts from the instant satisfaction they are cheating for. A undying infinite shield sidewinder surving a wing of CODE pirates, is not going to last long before being reported and F-Dev looks through the logs and permanently bans

So I stopped worrying what other players were doing, and kept on enjoying what the game offers. Thankfully the latest version of the cheat tool doesn't work in Odyssey!

Fly safe CMDR's

Frontier have a very firm stance on cheating!
Indeed...

They even made a post about it!

Half of the 'issue' surrounding accusations and extrapolations about cheating is that the common "it is done in solo" card is played, as we all know what is claimed to be going on in solo cannot be proven or otherwise, so is just speculation at best and scaremongering at worst...

I've played a lot of Bannerlord legit. The character progression is slow and grindy and unbalanced. Now I turned to hack it with console commands, to just see how another character build plays out.
I'd do the same in ED if I stll played it, because I can't be bothered to grind 100s of hours to experience content that should be basic staple of the game experience imo. And since I regard myself a solo player after the power creep arms race I don't care about the MP part. Next time maybe decide to make a proper MP game or a dedicated SP game - you can't have both without problems.

Because star was not claimed. That was the idea why such tags were cheated. Nowadays star is scanned automatically. So if you just visit system even without honking you get at least star tagged. So old style fast explored cherry picked system from nowadays viewpoint looks highly suspicious. While in reality was completely legitly done.

Maybe the problem is that the way things are with the FSS is confusing people and we need to go back to the old ADS way of scanning planets.

So instead of having a screenshot of the week perhaps we could have 'another dumb cheater banned' video :)

That way you get evidence of Frontier acting on their policy, and a good laugh at the same time. Win Win
