How the Chieftan Came to Be

As told to Edmond Mahon

Once upon a time, two DBX ships loved each other very much, and after a (very blurry) night delivering beer had a baby ship.

The baby DBX sat in his cot, looking at Galnet and other ships. He was sad because he wanted to be like them and not a DBX.

He had posters of the FAS, Gunship and Dropship on his walls and each night cried himself to sleep looking at them.

Now, DBX's are not known to be good parents. Above the cot DBX dad had left a big shiny box of materials and meta-alloys.

Baby got the box and ate its contents, and fell asleep.

In the morning mother DBX went into babys room to give him his 1 tonne of morning milk. But baby was not a baby any more.

Baby had grown.

He had thrusters all over making him agile like his hero, the FAS.

He had lots of hardpoints like his Gunship poster.

He was muscular like a Dropship.

Later that day the parents took baby to Father Lakon, who, after giving it some thought called baby 'Chieftan'.

The End.

ok. now, where are those hardpoints?

hmm, could be either the top "med" in my screenshot is a the second large, and the other two smalls are on the underside,
or the hatch under the cockpit is the second large and still, two smalls on not visible on the underside (hope they are somewhere on the pods)

Good story. My head cannon was just that a Dropship f*ck*d a Clipper, but the baby was so ugly, it was given to the Alliance instead.

Haha indeed. Also a good moral story of in breeding though.

Only sticking to your own kind prevents awesome outcomes like this! Work together play together ;)

judging by the new info (bigger than aspx, hardpoints), it looks like this ship might be an alternative to the python! hope they'll fly it on the stream so we can check out the internals

Yeah I guess if you are considering it as a balance component rather than an additional configuration option. Balance has never been much of a priority of FDev however, thinking of all the Mac users with lifetime passes that still have no access to Engineers. ;)

So call Apple and complain... It's their problem, not FDs.

I think you'll are off the mark, the Chieftain. It will be another Thargoid inspired build that will be a non-rank locked FAS. Good firepower, great armor, no SLF. Limited internals.

huh? weapon DPS scales ~x1.5 up each slot:
(make it C4 =3.375 C3 = 2.25, C2 = 1.5, C1 =1)

so 2x C3 + 1x C2 + 3x C1 = 4.5+1.5+3 = 9

with this, the firepower can be rated as following:

FGS ~10.25 (without fighter)
Python ~9.75
FDL ~9.375
Chieftain ~ 9
FDS ~8.25
FAS+Clipper ~7.5
AspE ~ 7
DBE ~5.25
AspS, Viper Mk3/4, Keelback w/SLF, DBS, Cobra Mk3 ~ 5
Vulture 4.5

this is only rough, because it doesnt count in pierce vs. hardness

and screen evidence AND the wording from ED - its only "slightly" bigger then an Asp.
its probably only an alternative to the Python as much as the existing ones

edit:
oh' and judging from the screenshots, the chieftain is only half as long as the python

Hi, new to the forum and the thread but I wanted some experienced input - do you think the Chieftain will be just versatile enough to become an all-rounder ship, similar to the likes of the ASP X. Asking for a friend. (Totally asking for me.) It looks gorgeous. I can't wait to get my engine greased hands all over it.

Hopefully it will have either a fighter bay or a high jump range (30ly+ in an engineered combat build) or else it will be almost as useless as the T10.

We will know soon ;) Even if the vanilla ship is not to your liking, after engineering it could be just perfect

Clearly, you haven't used a T-10 very much

I've been flying it ever since it launched, its useless in the way that the big 3 are better in every single way and at every role.
There is literally no benefit to flying the T10 over the big 3.

Except goid hunting... it surpasses all of them in this role... the role in which it was manufactured for... the T-10 that is
