You what? The more users you have testing the more likely it is that one of them will hit an edge case that causes problems, you think a couple of users can test every possible feature? It's not just about the load of people, it's about every person being different and doing things slightly differently. The standard way of alpha testing it to install the package on test bed and throw as much at it as possible, once that's done and all problems are ironed there's only one further test that can be done, the beta on the live server, this is literally the pre-release final build, this is what we will have when its done, if it isn't tested with a full live load then whats the point of even doing a beta test? May as well just release it as is!
Other problems, colonisation released only in Colonia? Every single player in the game with the least interest in colonisation is now on the way to Colonia, with their fleet carriers, fleet carrier jump time has now passed 6 hours, meanwhile players already in Colonia are getting disconnected every 5 minutes because of the huge load on the servers of nearly the entire game population all jumping simultaneously.
They are releasing it in the bubble because this is where the people are and they want as many people as possible testing it.
