Colonisation - new feature, and I love it!

I've been hoping for base building for years and, with a fellow Cmdr, have been out deep in the galaxy for months now searching for suitable locations (I've found a few). Now, while a little confusing until we hear more, I think Colonisation is everything I've wanted and a whole lot more, as it sounds like it's gonna come with a ton if not more of really meaningful gameplay. I get so bored when I'm back in the bubble, and this new feature has me excited for the game in a way I haven't felt since it was first announced 🫡

Wow

I started my own loreplay colonisation in XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, and sent there two carriers - outfitted as a space station. I made lore for that, some funny stories, and prepared an expredition (1-Nov - start) to the Arcadia.

And NOW, today, so great information. Colonisation! Frontier, you have read my mind!

Now I just wonder few things:
  • What will be minimal distance from habitated systems (I hope not only from the Bubble), because closest habitated system is almost 20.000 Ly from Arcadia hahaha :)
  • How much ARX I need to prepare hahaha :)

You better edit your post.

"Dark forest", you know? :)

I belive in people :)

I'm going to wait until we get more details about the mechanics of the colonisation process before I start picking out a specific spot to plant the seeds of civilisation. From what we've already been told, it looks like anyone wanting to set up home in some remote part of the galaxy will have to effectively build their own mini-version of the Colonia Bridge to do so. That could be a whole project in itself, especially if one is just doing it solo instead of as part of a group.

As I said in my post, I'm just stunned. I was not expecting that at all and frankly I'm with the OP. I LOVE this. I hope they keep it somewhat in check with very high requirements to get it completed but giving the player base a way to extend the reach of inhabited space is an amazing and exciting addition.

As a players I think we should be too much creative with our speculations. I mean, of course, we can speculate and dream, but only to the place where we will be not dissapointed about our dreams. Everyone has own border in different place.

I was thinking the same, which is why I've said nothing about my own plans 🫡

Haha. There is some time for colonisation and as we see it wouldn't be too easy, so, I take the risk :) And same way maybe someone will think - ok let's do it together :)

Right, I picked place for "bubble for explorers" two-three months ago, and prepare the ssytem for visitors after that. There are two station-like carriers now. We will see if colonisation feartue will fit to that idea or not, and then I will decide to make it true or leave it only with carriers. No pressure :)

Oh yeah, nothing brings as much disappiontment as what you imagined someone else was going to do. I'm just excited they are going for it. It would really add a new dimension to the game.

Oh no doubt, this is a great thing for squadrons 🙂

Yes, but the same way, they said that it be possible for one player too if I understand correclty, so according to your other post, I think the cost will be like 10B or smth like that and "grins" will be not too hard (because for an exaplmet engineers are easier now).

Colonization is a feature I have been hoping for some time. I think this is electric news.

It plays to the strength of the game - the massive galaxy.
It addresses a need - the bubble has become cramped.
It provides an opportunity for players to build, which appeals to many gamers.
It should merge well with squadrons, factions, BGS, power play, etc.
It should provide FDev with additional revenue if they decide to allow for players to purchase base customization kits (similar to what is available for ships).

Again, just all around excellent news!

10 billion is super easy to get in the game these days. I've been out doing exobiology exploring and gained that in the last couple of months casual gaming. And I must say... FINALLY a new feature for people who aren't into combat 🙂

The only caveat, and something I was hoping to hear from Frontier but didn't, is for player groups to be able to set up groups they can try and get added to PowerPlay. I thought after the withdrawal of player groups last year, this is what Frontier had planned. It could still happen, but players are MUCH more likely to get involved with PowerPlay if it's a player group they're supporting, and not just some faceless NPC. That's why the feature failed the first time.

Me too. As long as we don't have a repeat of what happened when 'first footfall' was announced - i.e. you update the game, it crashes repeatedly, and when you are finally able to log in you find every system in and near the bubble has already been claimed!
It may well be that there will be a huge race to colonize the coolest known systems out there. (Many of them are quite far, so it will probably take quite some time. But that's more the likely that there will be a race on who gets there first...)

I agree. It will be important as to how they handle this. The fact they are doing it at all is terrific.

My hope is that colonization provides an opportunity for individual commanders, squadrons, power players, etc to all have a seat at the table. The idea of an individual commander being able to set up a remote base in one neck of the woods would be very cool in my opinion. Additionally, a larger group (squadron and/or PMF) getting together to carve out their own system is also exciting news.

Hopefully the colonization mechanic will be one which is accessible to individual commanders, but also can scale up through squadrons and PMFs and interface in ways with BGS and Powerplay.

Indeed - I've always nicknamed the rumoured Elite base building as 'customisable huts' - should be a good revenue stream for FDev.

I hope your point is taken into consideration when they finalize the mechanics involved. I think it is fair that a group of players acting in concert should be able to build a base quicker than an individual commander, but hopefully there is a buffer zone or cool down period (or both) to allow colonization to be an option for as many players as possible, given how many systems remain untouched.
