Colonisation - new feature, and I love it!

I don't recall them having said anything about 10 lightyears (or whatever distance will be settled upon) per week, but per COMPLETION.
If you listen what he says in the video, at 1:18:48 he says "on the Thursday it will spin up and be deployed into orbit". He then proceeds to talk about how the new "contact" will appear in the completed space port, which allows you to colonize the next system.

This quite clearly and heavily implies that the space ports will only be completed on the Thursday maintenance breaks, and thus you can only advance your chain of colonized systems once per week at the fastest.

I think we all need to keep in mind everything up until release is "subject to change," I certainly hope they make the colonisation distance further and expansion faster to allow for faster expansion of the bubble. The other thing to keep in mind, before all the complaints arise after release, this isn't base building in the traditional sense of the forumites who want "base building." Just have to wait and see how it goes.

Clear from the mechanics, but FDev keep talking up making a road into deeper regions every time they promote the feature. They could even say "for now, it's only for expanding the bubble. New technology may become unlocked after community goals" and everyone who wants to go further would still be all in. It's just frustrating that they can't be honest or can't have vision beyond next week, I'm not sure which.
I think saying Frontier are not being honest about it is not an accurate portrayal of the situation. When things are in flux timelines are estimates at best, and it was brought up during the preamble in the interview about colonization that there are many unforeseen factors in regards to how things work for each feature in regards to the player base finding exploits etc.. that affect other things. What I took from it was that the work needed to get PPV2 settled had eaten into the colonization development schedule and thus pushed it a bit back. I also imagine that trying to balance the scope for players and development resources is something that's only going to be revealed as part of the beta process, which I hope and would expect to be a bit more thorough than Odyssey's alpha period.

In general though, I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea if Frontier were to have a permanent beta server running with limited (nda) access in general and more open access for specific things so that these kinks can be worked out in a more dynamic fashion.

I agree, I didn't catch it live but understood that bit better after watching Buur Pit's video about it. I'm wondering if the possibility of allowing for the contact to appear on the station construction megaship that shows up after the claim could be implemented, but only for others so that an organized community effort can be possible.

Yes I got that, but there seem to be a lot of people assuming the theoretical fastest as standard, when we don't at all know yet what it takes and if completion within a single period is possible or intended.

I noticed that Arf pointedly said that the colonization ship had a ton of large pads. This suggests to me, and it seems is intended to suggest, that the amount needed to be hauled is potentially going to exclude all but the most fanatical solo players.

Still, that’s what betas are for I suppose.

I reckon a T9 and an FC would probs do the job.

I wonder if the list of mats is going to be larger than the repair of stations ?? It would sort of make sense ?? So that could take a while ??

Yeah that's the way to go. We will probably know what the list of supplies will be, so fill up the FC with everything you need, move it to the chosen system in advance and then start the colonization process, it will of course give players with an FC an advantage over players without one, but what else are you going to spend your billions on?

Which streamer? Obsidian Ant posted a video a few hours ago including this info from his partnership program, Beta early 2025 and it's still part of the Odyssey update and free.
Frontier themselves do explicitly mention a beta (which is very interesting, given we've all said quite vocally that expansions like this need a beta, so hurrah!)

But Frontier don't say anything about how the DLC will be available, whether it will be available for Horizons, whether it will require ARX or Real Money (tm). If streamers are saying that they are speculating.

If Frontier plan to charge money for this, they better be upfront about it, and pronto.

Because they didn't mention this so far I think it's fair to assume it'll be a free update, although would be worth clarifying whether that applies to Horizons only players also.

Which looks silly, when Colonia itself was a player colonisation effort - the clue is in the name...
Well you got to roll with it I guess.... 99% of the time the answer to the "why can't I...." question is: Because Frontier made it a rule. That rule might get revised later on, but it looks like they have some kind of a vision how they want expansion of human space to start. And that's close to the bubble, it seems.
