Colossal announcement at Gamescom in two weeks' time

It has to be the first expansion, so as they've ruled out First Person, I'm thinking planetary landings with an intended release in December 2016.

This ^ most likely.

Wish it was going to be the free ship backers were supposed to get; how long ago???

They've been purchased by CIG.

Star Elite: Dangerous Citizen

It'll be fun to fly, buggy as hell, beautiful to witness, cooler looking ships, multicrew and can walk around (soon'er), but can only land on 100 planets, and still no chance at a FPS.

TROLLING!

Could "colossal" be some sort of clue or a hint..

I thought maybe the Colossus Computer used to decrypt encoded messages in WWII.. perhaps a link to the Unknown Artefacts?

The wiki page for the Colossus Computer has a reference to a 1970s sci-fi film called Colossus: The Forbin Project... I think it's about a rogue government supercomputer that becomes intelligent and takes over the world.. Isn't there something in the Elite universe Lore about rogue AI that are far out there in the Galaxy?

Could it be non-Thargoid, AI NPC antagonists to be introduced?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossus:_The_Forbin_Project

This is my theory. Michael Brookes has talked about rogue AIs that escaped human space in the past on the Elite timeline and has hinted that we will encounter these things some day. It's easily connected to the Mysterious Artifacts that send out Morse Code coordinates of the local star. The Morse Code hints at a human origin and says as much in one of the latest GalNet reports on the subject. And then we have all those juicy Permit Restricted regions out there since the Beta, tantalizing explorers. I think permits are going to be announced and we will find the AI Constructs there.

That's my big stupid pie in the sky guess anyway. Now bring on the bobbleheads.

The rest of the main game that couldn't make it in at the original release date.

Ever since the late betas, there, to me anyway, has been a sense of rushed development. I think the main team working on the core of the game is way behind schedule.

Please tell me the cake is NOT a lie and this develoment slice that we've been playing in will soon be joined by the rest of the game! I'll just keep on dreamin', I guess.

I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to seeing footage and stuff. I reckon they have the fundamentals of whatever they're working on already running in-game.

I'm definitely curious. Some sort of vague video of PL for the end of year is what I'd expect to see.

All I want is a stock market in which I can invest, and an API. Please, an API. I don't expect either of those things this year, though. :(

They aren't going to "announce" Thargoids ;) So that probabrly won't be it, unless it's just to confirm after they have already been spotted in game.

Michael Brookes stated at Lavecon that the Thargoids are a long way of. So it would seem it isn't Thargoids.

...is what they want you to think! LOL

Though, imo, I'd rather not see thargoids just yet. Let the powers get situated and some player powers to rise first. Then unleash hell on the powers via thargoid invasion.

Most likely the announcement of Planetary Landings, with a short demo, of course it won't be released until the end of year... even if we can land on planets it just gives us another place to dock, whatever! We need gameplay!

I'm hoping its a massive upgrade to missions with interactive NPC's.

It's looking more and more like planetary landings. They've already taken the time to deny the only other "colossal" possibility which would have been FPS mode. And they haven't said one word in response to all of Planetary Landing speculation.

Yes and quite recently Baben explained in an interview they were building the game from large scale to small scale, so Planetary landings first and then fpa/fps interaction.
