Most likely the announcement of Planetary Landings, with a short demo, of course it won't be released until the end of year... even if we can land on planets it just gives us another place to dock, whatever! We need gameplay!

I'm hoping its a massive upgrade to missions with interactive NPC's.

Agreed.

Planetary Landings = More sightseeing.

Cool indeed, but not enough to keep me entertained.

I thought you said gameplay. Changing the mission granting process to add in a "talking" NPC to give it to you is cosmetic, it's not added gameplay.

Planetary Landings OTOH, would be a whole new set of worlds to explore, and an entire new dimension added to the gameplay.

Dear God if it's the crotch screen I'm going to explode with excitement. Maybe it will be the crotch screen that allows you to select which bobble head you can have on the dashboard!! Ahhhh!!!!

All i could read in there was crotch and explode...

sorry, blame Friday

Could "colossal" be some sort of clue or a hint..

I thought maybe the Colossus Computer used to decrypt encoded messages in WWII.. perhaps a link to the Unknown Artefacts?

The wiki page for the Colossus Computer has a reference to a 1970s sci-fi film called Colossus: The Forbin Project... I think it's about a rogue government supercomputer that becomes intelligent and takes over the world.. Isn't there something in the Elite universe Lore about rogue AI that are far out there in the Galaxy?

Could it be non-Thargoid, AI NPC antagonists to be introduced?

I just about did a spit-take on that one!

I'm assuming it will be planetary landings, too - but I view that positively. First, based on my experience with Frontier (EII), planetary landings made things interesting, and have the possibility to add a ton to gameplay. Even if not right away, there is so much that could be built off of having access to the option of landing on the surface. In Frontier, it meant you could take off without permission if being chased by the law - or an assassin.

As long as it truly is a colossal update, I will be happy. While there are fixes and development I would like to see in the main game, as long I know FD has been doing a lot to develop the product I will be happy - even if it's in an area that I'm not interested in or don't care about. That means that they are still working full steam to improve the product. It is the day development slows down that I will start to get worried,

If its planetary landings, I'm coming home from the deep ASAP to wait for the required parts to be equipped on my DBX before venturing back out...there's so many epic planets I've seen that I would love to have put down on for a look around.
If it is planetary landings, I suspect it will just be an announcement, not a launch. In which case you will have plenty of time to get back.

Haven't they always said the Planetary Landings would be in a paid expansion? They cant seriously be planning a paid expansion when the game still has so many things to fix.
They couldn't seriously release a beta version and call it released, but they did.

The weakest link in the game is Exploration, and it would probably take something colossal like Planetary Landings to really fix it. If all it takes is money, FD can have it. As much as it takes.
Planetary landings will not fix exploration. It might paper over a few cracks on the placeholder for a few days. To fix exploration, you need to be able to explore, not this tourism with an A-Z of the whole galaxy in our cockpit.
