Cynical. But possibly accurate.
Power Play is a fun addition to elite. It's not at all a failure - just something you don't like.
Come on, it's pretty obvious. And no, it's not going to be planetary landings, or walking around ships, or thargoids. I mean, am I the only one with brains around here? Anyone who has been following the fdevs communications could have guessed it.

That would at the very least be unexpected enough to send at least one eyebrow into orbit.

I really wouldn't like to guess, at this point. It wouldn't surprise me if it were the addition of in-game Magic: The Gathering style cards for Powerplay.
In reply to the background sim.
They don't need to go to Gamescom to announce that, they did that yesterday on their news feed. You should read it. Apparently only a tiny bit of the background sim was limited. Some states simply were not able to be in conflict, war, or voting at a specific time. So they are changing that. Every thing else about the background sim seems to be working properly. At least from my experience with a few zones I know groups have flipped.

I reckon NPC hireable wingmen. They'd need someone really good at NPC AI to work on that!
Hey, now that's something I could get behind! I would be quite pleased with that, to be honest. It would make the universe seem a little more real.
If it's planetary gameplay, I'll be happy as a pig in sheets (hehe). This will move Elite: Dangerous out of the beta phase for me.

I thought maybe the Colossus Computer used to decrypt encoded messages in WWII.. perhaps a link to the Unknown Artefacts?
The wiki page for the Colossus Computer has a reference to a 1970s sci-fi film called Colossus: The Forbin Project... I think it's about a rogue government supercomputer that becomes intelligent and takes over the world.. Isn't there something in the Elite universe Lore about rogue AI that are far out there in the Galaxy?
Could it be non-Thargoid, AI NPC antagonists to be introduced?

I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to seeing footage and stuff. I reckon they have the fundamentals of whatever they're working on already running in-game.
