Community guests at FD HQ on 27th for Q4 news

I wouldn't say that explorers have been trampled upon by Frontier. A more accurate statement IMHO would be that Frontier has largely neglected explorers. Even with the Gnosis, Frontier simply did not take what explorers were looking for from the event into account, and instead turned it into Just Another Combat Content. Time and time again Frontier simply seems to forget about exploration, or at least put it aside. I guess you could say they keep "prioritizing" it.

It's one of my largest worries about 3.3, that the update will be more focused on everything else other than exploration, even after waiting over four years for new mechanics and content. That in the end the exploration improvements will be minimal in actuality and not substantial. This is why I'd love more information about what explorers are getting for 3.3, because the info we do have so far makes me fear that it might be the ONLY things explorers are getting for 3.3.

Explorers don't shift units, nor do they buy as much DLC (probably). Pew pew sells, and I can guarantee that there will be something in 3.3 that will in some way cater to these players, because that's always been the focus of Frontier since players tried meta building everything...

Those new screenshots we saw? That's pretty much all I think we're getting. Sure, there'll be a few extra surface 'things' to find, but I genuinely think that's pretty much it. If I am wrong, I will apologise, and re-evaluate how I view things. I am just going by past experiences, and the fact they held another closed door event tells me they have something they believe is 'epic' enough to make YT vids about... but, like the boy who cried wolf, do that too many times without actually delivering and it'll just fall on deaf, cynical ears.

Can't fault Malik_vr, the guy is a passionate ED player with a load of knowledge, he's also fair with both criticism and praise, and an asset to the community, so he deserves to be involved. The others I know to an extent and are also all experienced in lots of areas of the game.

In essence though, I'm not a fan of behind closed doors sneak peeks, more so because information from fdev is generally very very limited, so it isn't a very good marketing move to be honest. But you can't blame the people invited, we'd all have taken that opportunity if we were given it.

However, I really hope that fdev share the information very quickly with the rest of the community, it creates quite a bit of bad feeling when people appear to be given "privileged" information weeks or months ahead of everyone else.

(BTW I'm having a bad day, I had to quit a job I just started because I got offered another one that was permanent, full time... and I felt like crap for doing it - even though it was a short 3 month contract... Curse morals...)

I disagree. Just look at the Distant Worlds 2 roster and notice how almost every ship flying has a paid for paint job, 3000+ sign ups strong. And look at how huge the thread by Will on the exploration changes has grown.

Time and time again the exploration community has proven just how substantial it is to this game, and STILL people doubt it. Boggles my mind.

They never shared anything from the last closed door event until the big reveal - and again, it was simply to allow these people to create exclusive videos to show their many subscribers, in order to generate free hype - and it DID work. And so the suits have decided to try it again.

And while it isn't really the VIP's fault for Frontier's underhand tactics, don't think for one moment they don't benefit greatly from such events - their traffic will increase dramatically for a short period - and that means extra revenue. YT and similar content providers do it for the love of things - until they hit a few hundred thousand subs... then they absolutely do it for money. That is stone cold fact.

Oi, you never disagree with me :D

I suspect you missed my point... when it comes to selling the game to console owners (which is pretty much what they are doing now), pewpew is way easier to sell than flying through emptiness. It's cynical, but it's business.

You and me know exploration is where it's at.... but the suits simply don't care, because there isn't any guns. Explorers have, on the whole, a longer attention span, because of that exact activity, so they don't need to sell the game as much to us... pewpew'ers have the attention span of a mayfly, and thus the suits will try everything possible to maintain their attention - and that includes timed exclusives for YT creators, because that's where the free advertising is.

Although I do agree that the Exploration community in and of itself is substantially sizable, be careful with referencing the size of threads in the forum as representative... if one were to remove snark troll comments and replies from a vast majority of threads on the forums, it would likely eliminate at least 50% of the thread size itself. Not everyone who comments on threads has interest in the thread topic... shocking, I know. :p

So when they release the paid expansion they're working on, after the big Q4 update they're also working on, you'll say: 'Aha, they must have hired some people finally!"

?

Depends on what they deliver and in which timeframe - and so far, the Q4 Update itself alone doesn't sound big. Not at all - all while they're in pre-Alpha stage with (quote) "a mere few weeks from Beta" and a solid portion originally planned for Q4 already scrapped.
Not the kind of news you'd expect from that ominous, phantom "100 man team" busy working since months, is it?

But as I said, we'll see. No action required.
(I'm just waiting for something - and what I wait for isn't even related to ELITE)

I wonder if any of the streamers got video or picture of the "100 person team" they can show without revealing NDA content....just show the 100 person team.

<start rant>

I don't see the point in Fdev inviting a couple people over and making an announcement like it's something great and exciting.
Yeah sure the guys invited could be excited but it's not like they can share anything with us.
Why should I be excited over a couple guys visiting Frontier?
The last time they did this the invitees where impressed by what they saw there, I wonder if what they saw there still has to be released.

What is Fdev trying to accomplish with this?
Look how cool we are showing some guys what's coming in Q4, but they can't tell you what it is.
I couldn't care less.

Rather show us all what's coming instead of rubbing it in our faces that they're allowed to know already and we're not.

Oh and I wish they stopped using the word "exciting", by now they're giving it a whole new definition.

<end rant>

Sorry I got a bad day........

There's probably a reason why they chose OA as guest
I think the clue might be somewhere in this picture

"Today is one of those exciting days that you hear about from time to time! We've got a small group of community guests coming to see some of the pre-alpha Chapter 4 content we've been working on, before the beta rolls out "soon"."

Will be interesting to see if the outlook of some of the streamers changes at all ;)

Exciting for you Ed, for me, its just another day....4 years later.
