Community guests at FD HQ on 27th for Q4 news

I did see some new colours ... I'm not saying where tho!

New colors in the HUD right? :D

You know what guys, I seriously need to sleep now. My main takeaway from today is that Frontier are not the bad guys (I knew this already but it's nice to be reminded). They're a large, passionate and commited team of people who are genuinely trying to do right by this game to the best of their ability. They're talented good good people, not infallible, just human. They read what we write, constantly strive to be better and you know what ... if I was 20 years younger and not already working in a job I love, would probably have received my CV by now. On balance ... I reckon' the reaction to Q4 will be Mr Kipling. ;

Yes we would like space legs and atmospheric landings to come out faster though.

Err, somebody here asked about VR ... yes the new interface has been tested in VR I believe. I only caught the end of the question 'cos I was chatting with someone else but I picked up on the fact that a certain person in the audience who's known for their love of VR seemed happy with the reponse so all good hopefully!

We saw live gameplay in a "hot build".

Was there things in Q4 that really, really positively surprised like things we have thought and speculated about here on forums but had no idea FD actually working on them?

Yeah, I think people reacted a bit knee jerky about 'new interface is not tested in VR'. I really don't think they ignore VR when they design these things.

OA is there? No doubt he will reprise his previous visit to FDev video... in which he is 95% toxic... hopefully this time he improves objectiveness... and knocks the toxicity down by at least 10%... though that might just mean less yummy youtube cash! Positive videos don't get clicks after all.

Not speaking *for* OA, but I imagine the toxicity is probably more about frustration. Again I repeat, not speaking for him. A lot of the toxicity is in my opinion, mainly frustration based on existing bugs being left while other questionable additions and mods are added, which in themselves add even more bugs.

At the same time, NMS Next released in a period that could be called 'deflating' for FDev in that they made some major fau'paus with their playerbase and treated them like poo.

I hope the guys had a great time, it's always noce to see the 'operation'. Hopefully cthey report that the operation is in full happy mood and dev'ing away with some great content.

Just for the record; My toxicity is based on being old, grumpy and having seen it all before. I'm actually a nice guy. My co-workers sometimes even stop by to clear my dribbles for me :)

Hi Alec,
So nothing to say about VR then?

[EDIT] Woops; your reply a few posts up wasn't there yet when I was asking again. Thanks for the answer!

Hi Alec,

can you name some of the other parts of Q4 that you saw?
Err, yup - don't see why not some (but not all) of it ...

lighting, exploration, mining, codex, squadrons and a few more I'm cautious about mentioning

oh, and I should also say that there'll be a pretty big pile of bug fixes in this releae apparently (more like Q1 than Q2 or Q3)

Are Squadrons got any more love than original proposal suggested? If I remember, devs discussing it liked lot of ideas what tied them to minor factions, but we don't know anything concrete yet.

I see TJ monitoring this thread ... how am I doing mate? Tell me if I should shut up and go to work now!

Looks at time, realises I'm in Cambridge and I need to be in London

Crap! I should shut up and go to work now!

Hi Alex,

Did you see just 3.3 content or did you see anything coming for after 3.3? Obviously you will be under an NDA so just a yes/no/"no comment" is fine. :)

Thanks

Lol I'm too hungover to read anything at the moment... Nice to see you yesterday... Now get to work.

Sorry but I really don't feel qualified to speak about squadrons. They don't really interest me too much so I don't feel well placed to comment on what we were shown as I didn't have a strong reaction to it one way or the other.

Hi Alec - thank you for being as open as you can be about what you've seen. I've already expressed my opinion on the guest list for this sort of visit but I certainly think if visit there must be, you're very deserving of a place given what you actually do for the ED community.

Yes, I have a question, obviously. (It's a two-parter, so it's actually two, lol.)

Are those explorers who were most worried about the honk-check-and-decide method of exploration being irrevocably ruined by the new scanner going to be relieved by this simple, elegant solution you saw?

And was there anything else specifically exploration-related other than fancy scanner and QOL improvements coming up in Q.4 that might be of help in planning interesting events on, say, a 3000+ pilot expedition?
