Community guests at FD HQ on 27th for Q4 news

"Today is one of those exciting days that you hear about from time to time! We've got a small group of community guests coming to see some of the pre-alpha Chapter 4 content we've been working on, before the beta rolls out "soon"."

Will be interesting to see if the outlook of some of the streamers changes at all ;)

So while i read a lot of negativity in a thread about having a "community council" FD invites some select people
to bring positive PR for Q4, somewhat akin to selecting a council :D

Pre alpha?

Do you think the game is a full product already?
I still think of it as Beta.

See, as much as I am excited about the new Exploration & Mining stuff......& that is just based on the tiny stuff I have seen with my own two peepers.....I hope they have also taken the opportunity to make further improvements & changes to stuff they introduced back in 3.0-like C&P, Engineers & Wing Missions. Those were-to me at least-steps in the right direction, but there is still more I feel they could add & improve upon.

I don't think the whole point was simply to hype, but rather to get an honest feedback from people with collectively hundreds of thousands of hours in the game who regularly hear concerns of from hundreds of players each. Seems pretty obvious based on who they asked, ie not just youtubers, but also gurus and group leaders that they wanted to dot their i's and cross their t's before showing the general public. Hence they picked a nice diverse focus group.

At last...someone appears with perspective [yesnod]

+1 Ziljan [up]

Stop making sense. This is an ED forum. There’s no place for thoughtful reflection here.

Frontier invites small group with large influence, sounds like damage control systems pre engaged.

God. Really?
*Kicks self for coming to this forum*

A little customer satisfaction, making people feel special and cared for goes a long way, especially streamers who already feel so special and are pshycologicaly disposed to eat this kind of personal attention up(Not to mention adding to their vip status and increasing their financials / livelyhood). Even if this update bombs they lessened the negative impact by this one simple move, its hard to hate and crap talk a company that puts food on your plate, even if they ruin your favorite game.

It could be that the ADS connects with the Nav Beacon while still in supercruise.

This is my fear, that the "elegant solution" Alec talked about is just a way for bubble players to avoid the new exploration mechanics entirely, and that it won't do anything at all for the concerns actual explorers have expressed.

It's most likely not the solution I proposed since Alec said it wasn't one he'd seen suggested by the community, so this "elegant solution" is something else.

Maybe the honk will now only reveal system bodies which were previously discovered by other commanders? For example, if you honk a system you've never been in before you would only see the planets on the system map which had been tagged in the past, every other body would be hidden from you. Additionally there might be some indicator on the screen to tell you that there are more bodies to find too, this would give you the quick info that new exploration could be done there. Something like that might actually work.

What solution did you propose?

That would actually be IMO the best solution, and the one that would make more sense (the ones that make sense are usually the best).

Last time I checked from all big YouTubers only two were invited, and Alec and Stuart aren't YouTubers.

Sure, some explorers might be salty for not getting an invite, but they don't have infinite resources.

Still, none or very few of the invited persons are household names in ED for their contributions. For example, Erimus,Allitnil or Dr Kaii are rather experienced (Allitnil in particular has like 7 million Ly in milage) explorers but they didn't get an invite even though Q4 is exploration centric.

Buying good will from the people who they know will reach substantial portions of the community once the features are out.
Basically fertilizing the ground for a positive reception, or at least increasing the odds for a positive reception.
It's about PR, not about sharing info with the community at large.

Ditto, I'd believe that this event was for information spreading except NDA.

An irritating oversight I believe Frontier are both aware of and sorry about.

I'd suggest the headline feature for the Q4 update is more than likely Squadrons...as opposed to a pure exploration focus. Saying that, I'm more exited about the mining revamp (or reinvention). Tied with the new exploration mechanics, my dream of deep space mining as a career looks more than possible.

Well I don't stream content or have any kind of Internet presence apart from the forum and twitter both of which are to be honest pretty minimal.

I disagree, you have the highest le available in the forum, you have been a moderator for a long while which includes several posting privileges & there's a whole meme surrounding you here. That's not "pretty minimal" for me.

None of the suggested alternatives are household names either, it's just sour grapes.
Erimus isn't a household name? I reckon he is, mate, along with possibly only two others; one shoots videos with nice backdrops telling us stuff we already know, and the other shoots sci-fi writers pretending to be space princesses.
