If it ends up being space legs, then all is forgiving. If it turns out to be a crap shoot in 2020 for Elite, i'm sadly just going to be giving up on it.

To be honest, I'm quite satisfied with the Interstellar Initiatives as a way to keep me playing the game. That's new content as far as I'm concerned. I was wondering what the definition of 'long standing isues' actually meant, I.e. If it was just bug fixes or if they were going to make small passes at underused parts of the game.
Sorry bout that...Forgot the words "NEW" and "MAJOR" in my post. My fault. 😔

Just wanted to give a quick shout out for last night's Lave Radio discussion on all this. From what I've heard so far (and I'm less than half way through) it's a good dicsussion which covers a lot of salient points in a pretty well balanced and thoughtful manner. Recommended listening ...

P.S. yes - of course - the opinions of four people on a radio podcast are no more or less valid than anyone else's - I'm not saying everyone should agree with them, just that it's a good discussion worth listening to (and that, being a spoken discussion, it's a bit more rounded than a written to-and-fro of opinions and counter opinions on a forum thread).

<Rant about game development>

I'm in the old skool category or gamers here, Kingdom of Kroz, Zork, Moonmist, those were the games I started on as a kid. Back when if you owned a PC, it wasn't called a PC, but rather an IBM Compatible. That was when games were a risk for developers because, very rarely, people would shell out more cash in hopes of a fix of a broken game. Atari learned that lesson the hard way by not having standards for title releases on their consoles. Now let's jump to the early days of "The Console Wars," again, quality of released titles reigned supreme. It wasn't until online gaming really started to take off with broadband internet that a newer and more forgiving breed of gamer start to show itself. Buggy launches and day one patches became the norm. It has gotten to the point where games are released in a completely broken state only to be slowly fixed over time. It is in my honest opinion that we should hold game developers to the older standards of releasing quality games and updates that have been thoroughly playtested. Yes, minor glitches will still get through, but not nearly as many. I sign between 4 to 6 NDAs a year(Ubi, Microsoft, Activision, Gearbox, Bungie, EA,...) to Closed Alpha/Beta test games a year and am very vocal in expressing glitches and balancing improvements, generally hoping that in some way I helped a game be what it is supposed to be. But the few times I have expressed concerns with glitches to FD, it has either fallen on deaf ears or I have been flat out told that the glitch I experienced wasn't possible. And this I feel is because of the lackadaisical way FD has been allowed to run this game. Sure, major bugs get fixed fast, but there are still some bugs that have been around since launch day.

I could rant longer, but I have grown bored of this thread and need to get ready for work.

Seriously Did I miss confirmation of that in the OP? I thought they weren't mentioned?

No no, that's just speculation on his part. But honestly I wouldn't be surprised. The interstellar initiatives have been a way to make smaller changes to the game world thus far. That technically counts as new content, and if no new content is coming before the bugs are fixed, then it probably follows that no new interstellar initiatives are coming until they're fixed either.

I hope not though, I too like the initiatives.

No problems, I knew were weren't getting any MAJOR content, that's the 2020 update / fleet carriers. But small things (like maybe a racing course based on the new player training course) would be nice.

And I missed out on that one due to exhaustion. Oh well.

This is the hilarious thing about this whole situation - people ask fdev to look at the bugs - and then immediately start asking for new stuff (racing tracks) and stuff they were planning before the change (II). Hopefully they'll tell us at some point what they do plan to do, I might be being too pessimistic 🤷‍♀️

The last II was good, actually got me to go & get Guardian blueprints for A/X weapons & go shoot a few Thargoids - me? doing pewpew:eek:.
Then got stuck into the Station repair side of it, never done that before....the 'missing deliveries' bug, while being annoying, I viewed it as a "yeah, that would happen in RL too" moment.

Did the first couple of CG's for the latest II, but not doing the pewpew bit this week.

I'm out again surveying the border's of the locked off Col xxx Sector's for a bit now, was in anticipation of FC's coming, but that delay gives me time to do more surveying.

btw, I'm closing in on 10000 hours on the gametime clock.....so can't really complain too much about Elite Dangerous. Bugs 'n all, I've found enough gameplay to keep me interested these last 5 years:D

I was wondering what the definition of 'long standing isues' actually meant,

My guess/speculation is re-examining the underlying code, or parts of it. I think this, because certain bugs would reappear after they were considered squashed, and this would/does happen a lot, so maybe an overhaul/reworking is being considered. Also FD appeared to be looking at a major overhaul in the 2020 (now apparently moved further along by this news) update.

people just forget the fact that not even the arx store was scheduled for this year, did they release the info earlier this year, really, guys?

Why forget that fact before thanking? Why, at least you can't see that?

It depends if the flight training building could be a quick copy and paste job, if it's not then, heck sure, crack on with the bug fixing.
