ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

I have to agree with this part of your post. Planetary Landings for me was the last update with any significant bar raising content.

I have trouble thinking of much else since then that IMHO has been much more than simple bolt on developments... And I unfortunately can think of numerous other example that I consider poorly designed, shallow or questionable developments.

Ultimately I still have trouble working out what 100+ folks have been doing for the past four or so years given what's been released...
I agree here also. I definitely saw Beyond update as a buy off to wait for content we are ALL still waiting for. That Beyond update still has content outstanding including the knocked back Fleet Carriers. This is where everyone has trouble seeing FD point of view. Beyond was a system of measures to fix the bugs which they are now claiming as needing to be fixed again (fixed not even once) Quality of life (ha ha) In my opinion you cant use the same excuse twice & still expect the player base to either believe you or not get upset that your developers are seemingly undervaluing the product in lieu of the other games in it's stable. ED is being overtaken. No question about it. Even by much smaller development companies.

Well, carriers delayed another 6 months.

Shocked.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Would you have been happier if they had introduced FCs, embedded in a swamp of even more, and potentially nastier, bugs? Please don't take this as an attempt to snipe at you (it is not!), I'm just pointing out that, when taking your stance, FD simply cannot win. Whatever they do, they'll disappoint.

As it is, it is FAR better to first fix as many issues as possible (and, thus, likely make sure that any problems with FCs won't be quite as severe (and aggravating) as they would otherwise be). The September update was a small sample of what we could have expected otherwise -- only writ much, much larger.

I do respect your opinion, it's just I think taking a more positive stance, and acknowledging FDev cares enough about their game to fix more bugs, is called for.

okay enough of this.. get the betas going, NOW.. you want to delay content and fix issues, for a SECOND year in a row.., okay, then quit farting around and let's get to work then..
things need to be sorted and fixed before we get content, so get to work.. i'm ready, where is my beta download?
CHOP CHOP Frontier, i've waited patiently for 2.. TWO ENTIRE YEARS for my carrier..
get to work, i'm logged in, ready to play the beta and report issues properly..

Get the lead out, release the first beta and let's fix this game if that is your plan, no more delays, you have no more excuses, launch the first beta you plan on rolling out if i can't have my carrier.. let's go, time's wasting, you've had 5 years to work on this title and fix things, and Elite has generated over 80 million pounds in revenue, you have the money, hire some people and let's go.

Now roll out the betas so we can help you, since apparently we must, we have no choice.. now get with the beta rollouts because i want my beta carrier so i can help you fix them. Beta.... NOW. Not in 3 or 4 months from now.. you've had enough time, you made enough money.

You will get NO more money from me until things are fixed and content rolls out, so let's go, I'm not waiting any further, no more patience, you spent it all with your disappointing "oh we're gonna fix stuff this year"... you didn't fix things this year, you broke things. Time to fix your studio and your game, David. Roll out the betas.

Hi, I know Ps4 games will work on Ps5 but that's not what I asked. Ps5 will be a much superior console to Ps4 and it makes sense for the elite to keep up with this evolution. I don't say graphically but in a much more fluid gaming experience. For example, atmospheric landings make a lot more sense in a Ps5 because the planets will be much more elaborate than the rocky and ice planets we have today.

Ahh... I missunderstood you then...

My guess is that as long as FDev can support both PS4 (current version) and also make a branch for PS5 specific features, I would assume that they would want to make the best possible experience on PS5. But yeah... FDev are the only ones that can answer that, obviously.

I just cannot wrap my head around the false dichotomy of either getting a) fleet carriers on time, or b) bug fixes. Even if carriers need a delay... why half a year? It is truly concerning that they cannot hit deadlines set by... themselves.

They need to find where the bottleneck in management is and sort it out fast. A delay of this scale shows that someone messed up really badly or cannot make reasonable predictions.

I think its really unfair to Will as well. They mess things up, and then he has to break the bad news.

At a minimum, I hope we get a solid dump of information for carriers or even next era soon. Seems like the least they could do. Even if it has the disclaimer that it is subject to change.

Are you really comparing a single and partial element of a game (fleet carriers) which has been offered for free, with the totality of two complete games (SC and SQ42) that have been fully paid by the community to the tune of 230+ million USD and is still to be delivered after more than 7 years?

Ok.

If you really want to discuss SC more in detail may I suggest this thread.

Way to miss the boat on that one.. But lets take your analysis a little further...

Elite is 5 years and still not finished. It's so bad now, the company feel it's last resort is to pull the most expected release this year, delayed once already, and now delayed yet again, because the bugs need addressing first.

So yeh, while the other game or whatever it is has not yet been released, what frontier has released so far is a bug ridden mess. Remind me again how much frontier made last years in sales of this mess?

Well, they already mentioned that they will not talk about "the new era" until Summer 2020. That said, a live stream where they showcase some work in progress / ideas regarding Fleet Carriers would be a sign of goodwill at least, even if, as you say, it is subject to change.

Well been on the edge of uninstalling the game for a while now.... time to move away from ED for good...
LEP owner here and i can't say how much i feel disappointed right now...

Dear Frontier Dev. just make Fleet Carriers in this year , you are promised!
And after that you can fix everything you and community needed untill new DLC realesed , give us already new content with Carrier's.. i beg you..
Perhaps adding fleet carriers now is a bit like ...

As well as other reasons there's a certain amount of sense in making that tower a bit more stable before putting another piece on top?

A considerably LESS bug-ridden mess than SC, old boy. I won't deny there are issues, but if you really want to compare ED and SC, then we can only agree to disagree, as that is -- pardon my French -- absurd.

Sounds good, looking forward to seeing how that turns out. I have some hope for the game now, but the terrible thing about hope is that it makes you vulnerable, and it is Frontier Developments after all.

This is as about as optimistic as i get, enjoy it.
