Yay! More FREE bugs in Q2 2020! Or maybe Q3? Q4? Q5?!?
In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.
Here is a summary of our plans:
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.
- From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
- We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
- Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
- The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.
Yup, work harder not smarter! Gotta say, I am flipping gutted, was really looking forward to Christmas hols and FCs, but we are where we are I guess.People were telling me this morning that fdev should 'just work harder' lol. Enjoy your year of them fixing the bugs other people complained about peeps - you reap what you sow...

Well, I thought of something to complain about - we won't get our next bug fix until NEXT YEAR!!! I was really hoping for patch #4, but I guess I'll just have to deal with rubber-banding and stuttering for a few more MONTHS....Everyone taking it well after 25 pages?
I wouldn't call it brilliant. Brilliant would have been doing it after the first delay announcement last year, and I along with ALOT of the major forum posters here gave the "It's ok but fix the game" write ups last year. Thanks for the update, Will. I think this is a brilliant move to get the current issues with the game fixed before adding fleet carriers to the mix. And hurrah to you all for bringing back the betas!
@Electric Kite You always have open and PvP if you’re sick of brain dead NPCs in Mobius!![]()

well played, frontier. you have my blessing, this was the right thing to do.
however ... can't help but have a bit of dejà vue. take your time and nail it this time!
Please remove NPC crew permadeath. The community has been asking for this change for years. Make them escape in pods or something.
I'm curious what are these bugs that need fixing so badly that it requires a dev team of over 100 people to spend 6 months fixing?
Again, with due consideration that this might involve a refactor, plus they will continue working on other things in the meantime, and accepting there are many unaddressed bugs on the issue tracker, how many are so serious they require such focus?
The skeptical side of me takes this as FD seeing an opporutnity though the demand on the forum to delay the content, and perhaps not being ready to deliver on the promised content, has spun this to delay the release of FCs, which possibly were not going to be ready for the deadline.
You know me (ok, maybe you don't, let's do lunch), but i'm a big fan of ED and have been accused many times of fanboyism, but it all just seems far too conveninent.
In other news, LOL at everyone who spent the last few weeks/months grinding for billions of credits for a FC.
