D
I honestly didn't think I was ever going to be able to say this, especially after September.

But now I can.

Thank you. Seriously, I mean that sincerely.

The constant addition of content over bug fixes was destroying this game.

I am pleased to see that Frontier has now publicly put on the table that they will explicitly not be adding content, as the huge list of bugs needs fixing, and that needs to be done before new content.

My previous anger was always over one thing: Frontier were constantly breaking existing features with new content, rendering the game... Unappealing, to say the least.

No, some people won't be happy about this new delay.

But September showed us all that the delay is essential, and, if Frontier sticks true to their word, which I, as well as many people, will hold against them from now on... But it shows the delay will hopefully only make the game better in the long term.

I suspect a lot of people just wants bugs to be fixed, content be damned. I know I certainly just want to see bug fixes.

Sounds like FD have made the sensible choice, probably helps that I'm not that bothered by Fleet carriers :p
I wonder what % of players are bothered? Poll anywhere?

It's not so much about the fleet carriers....its about the shade...the dishonesty....the lack of competence...the lack of faith generated...and the insulting fact that they made sure ARX was rolled out ahead of anything else.

Surely...as a fellow elite player and a human being...with integrity and emotions...some small part of you is annoyed by this...

I'm sorry, but  fc in the second quartal of 2020? And so the 'new' era wil be (maybe) released in 2021 or later? What about ice-planets?

Bug-fixing is good, but new stuff shouldn't suffer from that
I think the main point is so the fleet carriers don't make the game even more broken than the September update

Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
I have mixed feelings about this line.
For one it is an extraordinarily good move.
On the other hand though, it should not be here because the public betas should have been something obvious just like it used to be.

Glad You did make the decision of bringing these back. You are on the right track.

If FDev actually listened to the community, uses the beta's to their fullest and fix this game near completely (like 95%) then I'll enjoy seeing what else people will dig up to complain about. Oh I know, why can't my commander fly naked!! She's the only one in the darn ship!
In the early months right after launch on the PS4, while I was doing Boom missions. I use to fly naked until I found out that apparently my ship was in the top one percent of all the liner's and that the flight staff assist anyone on board with the view of some movies until some dude could compose his wedding vows.

i won't lie, i'm mad because the Fleet Carrier was the thing i was the most hyped for Beyond

Also, you should really tell us what is the major update of 2020
Because there is 3 majors possibilities for it :
  • Spaceleg
  • Atmospheric
  • a huge disappointment
Probably 1. Maybe 3. 2 would need 1 to even be mildly exiting

Thanks Will for the update and thanks to the all of the development team who are working hard on what is my favorite game and one I will continue to enjoy and support.

I appreciate how hard it was to make the decision knowing some people wouldn't be happy. I think it is the right decision even though personally I don't experience that many bugs within the game.

A part of me wants to congratulate you guys for taking such a huge step towards the right direction, while the other me is just extremely frustrated.
Almost half a year of just bug fixes? Come on guys. At least Fdevs could be crystal clear about what is being targeted during this "Bug fix" period...

Are we going to finally see a new CQC that doesn't look like a Ghost Town? (Maybe better rewarded too, so it could become interesting)
Are we going to have the PowePlay system revamped to something more fun, meaningful and interesting?

What kind of bugs are being addressed Frontier? Tell us.
Because the way it is right now, it just sounds like an excuse to postpone a project and slack for a certain amount of time.
Not that you guys don't work, I understand Elite: Dangerous is an incredibly complex game and coding while a simple mistaken line could affect the well-being of an entire galaxy must not be the easiest thing to do... But we want to know what is going on. Don't be so shady about what is coming next.

I think this is one of the biggest community's complaints right now and this one unfortunately I cannot defend you guys even if I wanted to.

As a very logical and respectful player, I understand this big step and I'm sure we'll get an improved game in the future but that shouldn't come at the expense of having new content added. Think about it, and at least give us a reason to believe it's going to be worth it.

The implied numbers do not add up to me.

Fleet carriers have been in development in some shape or form for more than a year. 6 weeks before they are due to be implemented, they are delayed by six months, for the reason of diverting said development effort to bug fixing.

There are obviously other factors at play that are not being shared.

The obvious guess would be Fleet Carriers have a large underlying reliance on ARX

Stabilizing the game is very good, but FDev could release some pretty simple content that would have a big impact on how we perceive the game world:
Creating more variation by adding new station exteriors. This would unlikely cause new bugs as they only have to replace some of the models by new ones.
I think stations with certain functions should have a much more appropriate exterior model: Mining stations and military stations for example should not be indistinguishable from an industrial or a high tech station on the outside.
Another idea might be to add some station designe that are unique for Imperial space and Alliance space. Unique designs for each faction. This would make the main factions feel more distinct. We really need stuff like that.
I crave more variation in the Elite galaxy. Currently the bubble looks too samey wherever you go.

I am personally not upset about the delay of Fleet carriers, as I was never very interested in them to begin with.

Thinking about it a bit more, if the new era is a complete overhaul as we all thought then surely there would be no point in spending a year bug fixing a game your are essentially planning to replace?

So this either means (to me at least) that:

A. The new era isnt as big as we expect
B. This is an excuse to delay fleet carriers wrapped in a "its all for you guys" message
C. Theyve realised the games code is a real mess and are panicking ahead of the new era

Either way surely at this point no one still has faith fdev will actually deliver anything meaningful right?

D. Fleet Carriers will be rolled into the New Era code.

But yes, you are about on target with A or C, I think.

Or E, all 2020 updates are bug fixes while they optimise the code base for "all the great things coming in the future that we can't talk about now"

Communtiy asks for more effort to 'fix' things.
Where does said communtiy think that effort will come from out of a full dev schedule?

It's not like making a new game, if you have an online game, minimum maintenance is expected, not like every patch was a huge job. They clearly have not dedicated to this game the time they should, but they have released 2 or 3 new games since then .

I can undestand it,but they should recognize it instead of throwing strips with recurring phrases like they are very excited about the new and such, while not showing anything.,

I've only been 1 year and I've seen this many times, is it necessary to apologize so many times ?

Oh come on, you don't let your customers dictate a strategion for you, or determine when its time to change to another :)
Right, cuz ticking off your paying customers by blatently ignoring them is such a sustainable business strategy.

Let's ask Vox and Vice how that's working out for them.... oh right....#learntocode

We need a carrot to keep interest at the very least

I am shocked by your ambiguous words.
