ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

Forget all them updates, you will only break the game again. How about you fix your instancing? Getting any more than few wings in a fight is near impossible. We have mobile games what have more players in than elite with no problems. How hard can this be?

I am sure these mobile games have 1:1 scale 3D galaxies, and they are totally comparable. Your post absolutely shows you are a true expert, and I assure you we desperately await your solutions.

Not sure what the problem is with this announcement. In an ideal world, none of this would be necessary obviously and we can talk about that all day long but it won't change what's happened.

It makes perfect sense for FD to fix the existing issues rather than throwing more content on top of the bug-ridden version of the game we have now. That would only bring more bugs with it. Plus opening up testing again, even if its only on PC, is a good thing.

They've said the paid update release date for 2020 won't be affected and the only compromise being made is a delay to fleet carriers. I get that this has been delayed once already but I'm not convinced fleet carriers are going to be all that incredible anyway unless they bring with them another layer of gameplay that doesn't already exist.

And if they do bring another layer of gameplay (as opposed to just being glorified cosmetics) then guess what would happen if that was introduced to the version of the game we have now without existing bugs being fixed first? Yep, more bugs!

I Don't want to spread angst, but...what if...the Fleet Carriers are going the same path like revamped Ice-Planets???:eek:

Have you not played for the last few years or something? Do you think instancing is fine? It's been broken since launch really. Also I don't know what the size of the galaxy has anything to do with my post because that galaxy is not in its own instance like the players are. You are only in one system at a time, hence the load screen every time you jump. I'm sorry if your feelings was hurt.

So many CMDRs in rage about the delay, some even determined to quit! Entitlement all over the place. We'll see in a year or so who's still there and who not.

Come on guys, if we too learned a lesson about the September update at all, it's definitely better to have less features if we also get fewer bugs (some will stay ofc because they won't be able to fix all of them, so the whining will go on). It really makes no sense wishing for broken Fleet Carriers just to have that content in December. We complained and demanded betas in Open letters and all, they listened and changed their schedule (don't know how hard it was to sell that news to Tencent), but whatever they do, they simply can't win. I for one got enough content left for now, and I'm well over 22 weeks in the game. Play time, that is. You simply can't have it all together 🧚‍♀️

"U mad bro?!"

Man, not only do you offer a great insight in the technical details but you are also an eloquent master of rhetoric!

I do hope Fdev solves the bugs I am annoyed about... Like the prospector minigame (select a prospector) or the galmap which defaults back to first tab always...

Sure, broken content sucks. But it is actually quite reasonable to say:"if you dont provide functioning new content and entertainment once in a while I will spend my money on companies that do. No hard feelings, best of luck and all."

The fact that you can't even imagine releasing new content that actually works is some pretty strong Stockholm syndrome. What happened is that FD delays the only meaningful content in over a year, which itself was already delayed by a year, for eight more months. While it supposedly was pretty much ready by now. And why? To fix bugs that shouldn't have been here in the first place, after a period of little content where they presumably already focused on the core gameplay and bugfixes.

People aren't 'crying'. People are pointing and saying:"lol, u guys are terrible."

Simply put: we are in a restaurant and looking forward to a nice meal on a clean plate. Telling us it is unrealistic to want both is just plain ridiculous. :)

YMMV I guess. The September update and its two patches pretty much fixed everything that broke from my perspective. And most of the instancing issues and rubber banding and all that good stuff that people are complaining about haven't affected me in the slightest. From my perspective the game runs fine and what few bugs there are, are manageable and I'm happy to wait for FD to roll them into a content update like they normally do.

I don't expect updates to be flawless, I do expect things to break and then be fixed in a couple of follow-up patches.

As for fleet carriers, don't think I'm forgetting that they were already delayed (I did put "again" in my post) for a year, but they could still be ready to go and it's the actually putting them in the game part that's been placed to one side so it can be all hands on deck for the bug fixing. Also, don't forget that FD have also said there's going to be a Beta for the Fleet Carriers, so couple that with the shift away to get everyone on top of the bugs, and you've got yourself a lengthy delay.

I'm imagining maybe 25* people or less working on the fleet carriers who now have to bring that to a screeching halt and work on the bugs. That's 25* people who would've been pushing the carriers into the game, who are now not doing that and instead working on something else. THEN they'll have to go back to the fleet carriers and meticulously test for bugs before they arrange a beta version, so they can catch whatever bugs the community pick up during those beta weeks.

*It's a number I've pulled out of my rear end. Assuming 100 people assigned to Elite generally (as once stated), removing the artists, store people and other non-coders. Then assigning the largest chunk to 2020, and a smaller chunk to the in-between bits. Small team that presumably can't deal with the bugs AND the new content at the same time so have to pivot from one to the other. Maybe I'm being overly generous with the number, or maybe overly cynical. No idea.

Well I realise you will stand up for your precious game regardless of its current state but them issues are there and like fdev you can just stick your head in the ground and ignore them.

Cool ... skimmed the first ten pages ... community response is about 90% largely in support of Frontier's no doubt difficult decision. I think I'll quit this thread while I'm still feeling chipper. Have a nice day everyone and thanks FD for being honest and for striving to do the right thing.
