ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

So, people are bored because there's been little new content lately, and nothing coming until next year. That part is understandable.

So they go crazy with a big whinge-fest and open letter nonsense, and the result is that FDEV decides to delay things even more.

And people are happy about this.

Wow.
Only those are "happy" who enjoy the game as it is right now. Only those people are happy, who aren't over-excited for the things to come. The "Others"...we don't talk about the "Others". ;)

Greetings Commanders,

Following the launch of the September Update last month, we’d like to provide you all with an update on our plans for Elite Dangerous.

Firstly, thank you for all of your feedback on the September Update, which you've shared with us on the forums, across social media, on livestreams and through the Issue Tracker. There is no doubt that, in addition to the new features, the September Update introduced a number of issues and bugs which caused a lot of frustration. We are really sorry for these issues. We realise that some of the issues had an impact on your ability to enjoy Elite Dangerous. The team have been working hard to address the most critical issues and have already released a series of patches and updates to bring those fixes in as quickly as possible.

However, we know there's more to be done. You've asked for more focus on existing bug/fixes and issues, and for the community to be better integrated into the development process and testing for these upcoming updates.

In order to improve your overall experience, we have decided to refocus our efforts on addressing key issues and bugs. Since the launch of the September Update, we've been taking a deeper look at our internal development roadmap, the way in which we utilise public betas, and the content of our next updates.

Here is a summary of our plans:
  • From now and into next year (2020), the updates will focus almost exclusively on addressing recent and longstanding issues, including those reported in the Issue Tracker, ultimately making the game better.
  • We are expecting to have a series of these updates, which will be rolled out (approximately) every three to four months.
  • Each update will also include a public beta that will run prior to the update's release, with a dedicated time to address major issues that appear.
  • The first of these updates will have its public beta in December, with an expectation that the launch will be early in 2020.
As a result of our updated plans, we have made the difficult decision to defer the release of Fleet Carriers. We are now planning for Fleet Carriers to be released in an update in the second quarter of 2020, rather than in December 2019 as previously stated. This will grant us additional time to refine the feature as well as focusing time on addressing existing reported issues. It will also ensure the state of the game is in a better position to introduce Fleet Carriers, that will provide Commanders even more opportunities to interact with the Milky Way. We understand that this delay will be disappointing for some players, but do know that this decision is one that we do not take lightly, and is made with the best interests of the community and game at heart.

Ultimately, we are confident that this will improve the Elite Dangerous experience for all our players.

The team have been hard at work on the next major milestone, which you may remember we mentioned back in March as our next major paid addition to the game. They’re making fantastic progress and on schedule for release by the end of next year. We are very excited to show you what we’ve been working on. However, we can only announce the content when it’s at the right stage of development, we estimate this will be ready to talk about at some time in summer 2020, after the Fleet Carriers update. We appreciate there is a bit of a wait, but we want to make sure it is ready to be shown before making our full official announcement to the world.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing and continued support and for helping give us the feedback, steer and insight to make decisions that will benefit the entire community and for your continued passion and dedication.
Poor job FD are you seriously working on ED?

100% right they owe us nothing, i would say for the cost of the game i have more then had my money's worth, we do have a right to our opinion of the game and the features we would like to see. I think its fair to say though that we all love the game and want more from it & i am happy to pay for that content because i do believe we have had good value for money in the game so far but its current state, the mistakes and delays have me not wanting to play much.

I have 3 accounts on PC 1 triple elite, 2 double elite, i've done a lot but right now i am grinding for grindings sake, ive not been on much this year, interest is going down and based on frontiers current form it maybe so long before we get new working content that so many people will leave the game and never come back.

Again we are owed nothing but with all this going on i'll say it again, FDEV to keep interest alive should at least give us a bit more detail of the roadmap now, not promises but the out lying plan cause right now we have nothing but some bug fixes to look forward to in maybe june 2020

I agree with you and asking for more information or making our wishes known is justified in all cases.
Demanding however or telling Fdev we deserve things isn't something we're entitled to.

I'm not happy at all with the way Fdev handles the development of ED, postponing features time and time again and delivering updates in an abysmal state.
Bugs being neglected and stacking up through the years, so bad actually that they now choose to delay another feature in order to get the game back in shape.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a period of updates containing bug fixes but it shouldn't have come to this.
It would've been better if they had made plans taking more bug fixing into account with each new content update in the first place.

Elite is about making YOUR OWN goals and acheivements, not to SERVE you goals and achievements. Sorry to disilussionize you.🤷‍♀️
Elite does provide many goals of course as I'm sure you're aware, such as achieving Elite status, ranking up with the various powers etc. Yes we do make our own goals as well, both situations are valid.

Well these are "goals" I'm really not interested in. It took 1.8k Hours to get my Trading-Elite. My goal simply is to relax and get rid of the harshness of a stressful day at the office. Often, but not always I achieve this goal.

As I stated earlier, I'm a very modest person. ;)

Dear Frontier Dev. just make Fleet Carriers in this year , you are promised!
And after that you can fix everything you and community needed untill new DLC realesed , give us already new content with Carrier's.. i beg you..

Im not demanding they tell us i think they need to give us a carrot though to keep us interested and so we have something to look forward cause if they don't people will look to other games and if they player bases disappears whats the point,

And will you be one to complain and shout if FDev give us FC's that aren't working properly?
Or a current bug make then game breaking?
Or they are just fluff to look pretty?

Because that is simply what would happen. FDev would be ridiculed either way by a 'getting more toxic by the month' forum community at spoils most of the fun aspects of the game with entitlement issues.

And that's another thing I agree wholeheartedly with.
The carrot on a stick tactic Fdev practices is only working for so long, especially when you keep postponing features.
A game getting more and more bugged doesn't help either though, once a game gets to be known as a bugfest people start to avoid it too.

Fleet Carriers Q3 2018, NOPE delayed, Fleet Carriers December 2019 watch these flashy new teaser trailers, NOPE delayed, hmm Sounds like another space game. Perhaps a title change "Elite Citizen"

And for the Fan Boys that spout "bug fixes are worth it" - REALLY? They pushed the new player safe place/crying closet systems and ARX, knowing about the bugs. So, Give us Fleet Carriers and bugs. We can patch the patches, but at least those of us rich enough can be showing off our Fleet Carriers to the peasants!

Suggestion: Let us buy materials and unlock engineers for ARX!

Do you REALLY want a non-functional Fleet-Carrier? Are You Serious???

I supported developers from kickstarter.
For a long time, I approved and defended any initiative of the FD. I was rightly called a fanboy.
However, now even I, the most calm and positive player, is disappointed.
It’s obvious to me that the words “dealing with the mistakes you talked about” mean shifted responsibility.
I am sure that there is a 100 + 1 way to satisfy the players. Simple, small, but significant updates, not constant expectations.
In any case, thanks for the game. Regards to you

17.8 bn?

I'm doing something wrong. If the FC is in the 5-6bn price bracket, I"ll never get one. Lord above knows how much upgrades will cost
Yeah, with absolutely nothing to go with regards to the potential cost of FC's, edging my bets a little (still may not be enough). Double Painite mining is good for improving your balance

As someone who was a part of the original Alpha, I worry that we have finally reached the end. I’ve defended Frontier and played Elite more than I ever thought I would. It’s had me spellbound since the very first Oculus DK1 was supported out of the box. But it’s been clear that other games have taken priority for years now and the skeleton crew left manning this beautiful game haven’t been able to cope, let alone move the game forwards.
David Braben has taken the player base for granted for too long and now we hear no new content for another year! I just don’t think there will be a player base left when the update finally arrives.
It breaks my heart to say that, but I think they lost a player today.

Why do you think it will be "non-functional" ? if they focus on fleet carrier update and ready to release it WITH BETA PHASE , everything will be fine.
That's what people ask for , fix the bugs and give old beta phases for updates like in sep. and dec.
And after Fleet Carrier beta and release stages they can focus on fix old bugs till we get DLC "New Era" , everything is simple.
I'm just one of those tired of waiting for empty promises , sorry for that.

So......beta test?
In December, keep it going through December. The fleet carriers must be nearly finished now...............stock piled ready for delivery.

I'm sure we have had a break from new content before to fix all the bugs and a rebalance. In fact are we not already on a delay of new content until next year for this reason?

If there is a beta with new content and the curent game to choose from then in my mind it keeps all happy.

Well, yes, refund me the LEP you sold me in 2015 FDEV, it's not even funny anymore. From a business perspective it's a pure clear scam.

The last update that you could be truly excited about was 2.0. Planetary Landings. They really worked on that they really put a great effort that autumn, they were working hard, and we all were in awe. Yes, we figured pretty much on a 2nd day there's not that much to do, but FDEV told us "Don't worry, we'll get more content to planets next year. Including Lava worlds + ... our Moon.". We all know what happened next.

That was 4 years ago. Whoever is so naive that wants to wait more - go ahead. I'm pretty much almost 40 now and I don't generally believe in fairy tales.

Did you read their financial reports? Do you see how many new IP are planned? There's no need to fool yourself anymore, there's simply no resources and no wish from FD to invest any meaningful effort into FD. It wasn't done for last 4 years, why all of the sudden it will change?

It won't.

I will not list all delays, broken promises, etc. that occurred over a years, people with minimal critical thinking, people that have more than 1-hr momentary memory do remember those things. It's simply irrelevant at this point of time.

Total disaster at mismanagement, lack of programmers, crazy buggy code done by 100's predecessors or pure cold lie - doesn't matter at this point.

For months and YEARS we are forced to live with a 'dream' that something grand will release that would suddenly be a true 'next era'. You want to fool yourself further? Go ahead, it's personal choice.

I can't. No. Not anymore.
