Hardware & Technical Computer Build to run Elite Dangerous

My Specs:

Motherboard - ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AMD 990FX
CPU - AMD FX-8350 Black Edition 4.0GHz 8 Core
RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series Model F3 16GB
GPU - ASUS GeForce GTX 750Ti 2GB
SSD - Crucial M500 240GB
HDD - WD Black WD5003AZEX 500GB

Going to be upgrading the video card for release but this one works pretty well.

I have no idea what the frame rate is, though seems smooth - but all graphics settings are on high and its on 1920x1080.

Well as I have suggested you can use FRAPS to monitor the frame rate. "Seems smooth" - is subjective feeling. I can easily feel the difference when frame rate goes below 50fps. So 60fps is a safety margin for me. Right now when there is the area with a planet that has rings most of the players experience significant frame rate drop. I have GTX Titan and the frame rate drops to as low as 40fps in this area. However, most of the time I have more than 100fps.

You should be fine with your GPU in ED. I recommend this GPU as minimal requirement for the game, as well as it is power efficient and is not demanding for the PSU.

Currently playing 1.1 with this; PB soon!!!

I have a couple Sapphire Tri-x 280x 3GB sitting around in the garage and was wondering what I can do with them. They are left-overs from my brief dalliance with mining (it didn't end well, mostly because playing at crypto-currency turns me from a nice family-man into the Wolf of Wall St), the other left-over bits are all low-end junk worth about £50 on eBay.

Would like to build something for OR CV1, is a crossfire 280x build a good idea? Also, in the short term, would I get much benefit from using one of the 280x (I suspect my modest CPU would hamstring both and my PSU is a bit tight)?

From what I heard over the internet both Xfire and SLI are not good for OR. But there is no definite confirmation or denial of this fact. OR CV1 presumably will have 2560x1440 so there is no single card now that will provide 90+ fps required for CV1.

As for r9 280x - these are the great cards for ED even if only one is used. The only thing is that one card won't give you significant performance increase in comparison to GTX 670.

According to this review R9 280x is better than GTX670, but note that 280x is overclocked, whereas GTX670 is at reference clocks and can also be overclocked. So I guess that these cards would have really similar performance.

Thanks, think I will stick with the GTX670 for the Beta, last thing I want to be doing on Friday evening is messing about with AMD drivers! If it is only an incremental increase...

Let the premium beta begin!!

Minimum spec will it run ?

Hi wonder if anyone can help. I have been going over some of the spec posts re running premium beta. I am about to take the plunge and download premium beta but want to make sure my laptop will handle it. It has the following spec-

Intel Core2 duo processor 2.2ghz 800 MHz FSB
4gb ram
512mb GeForce 9700M GT

I don't mind tweaking the graphics spec down some.

I can't wait to play the game its been 30+ years !!!

Neither can I. I've been saving my pennies and just bought a lappie to play ED on. Had some good fortune and found a factory reconditioned Asus G750JH for only £1.2K, but it won't get here until tomorrow. So I've had to install ED on a AMD E-450 with Radeon HD graphics, 4MB. The processor is slow, (WEI 3.9).

I've not played multi-user - well I crashed trying to dock for the first time - frame rates was unusable, but from the forums I see that the station rendering needs optimization. This has forced me into the combat scenarios and work on my joystick config.

I've knocked the graphics options down as far as they will go and have managed to make some limited progress. I'm getting the hang of flying with a stick again. I'm happy with my progress playing follow the leader in the "First Kill" scenario given the hardware I've got. While I can get the kill, I wouldn't call it pretty. Looking forward to Monday and seeing how the new lappie helps.

I would say that your system is not up to the task, sorry. With the graphics tuned right down I'm not seeing anything pretty, and being stuck in the combat scenarios is a pain.

Additional: The system i'm using is just about reaching 10fps. You can see the FPS by using CTRL-F.

Both your CPU and GPU does not qualify the minimal requirements of the game. I doubt that GT9700M will allow you to achieve even 10fps.

ED minimal requirements are quad-core CPU and at least GTX260, which has the following specs:

GPU Engine Specs
CUDA Cores - 192
Graphics Clock (MHz) - 576MHz
Processor Clock (MHz) - 1242MHz
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) - 36.9

Memory Specs
Memory Clock - 999MHz
Standard Memory Config - 896MB
Memory Interface Width - 448-bit
Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) - 111.9

GT9700M:
Pipelines - 32, unified
Core Speed - 625 MHz
Shader Speed - 1550 MHz
Memory Speed - 800 MHz
Memory Bus Width 128 Bit
Memory Type GDDR2, GDDR3
Max. Amount of Memory 512 MB
Texture Fill Rate: 10 billion/sec
Memory Bandwidth: 25.6 GB/sec

Will my Dell Studio laptop with Intel I3 Core be able to run the premium beta version?

I have read the minimum hardware requirements but I am uncertain whether the I3 Core is a Quad core or not.

ThThanks for the help is there anything else you need?

Exact spec is

CPU is Intel(R) Core i3 M330 @ 2.13GHz
Memory 3.0 GB
Hard Drive Seagate 500 GB
Video Advanced Micro Devices
PCI Express x16
ATI display adapter (0x68C1)
Video Card Memory 1.0 GB anks for the help

As said in your other thread, exact model/specs of your laptop are required - but I'm pretty sure an i3 is not a quad core.

i3 is most probably a dual-core CPU. However, there were reports that it is still possible to play the game with it. What concerns me more as that usually laptops with i3 do not come with powerful GPUs, so most definitely GPU will be limiting the performance more than CPU.

Ok thanks for that. Gutted.

Do you think if I upgraded the graphics to a 1791mb Geforce 9700 and doubled the RAM it might cut it ?

many thanks

Welcome to the forum,

The minimum specs are as mentioned a quad core processor with at least a 1gb Graphics card.

Direct X 11
Quad Core CPU ( 4 x 2Ghz is a reasonable minimum)
2 GB System Ram (more is always better)
DX 10 hardware GPU, 1GB video RAM(my reasonably low end machine has a GTX 285 with 2GB) Minimum video ram spec updated to 1GB.

Anything less and you would really struggle.

I've merged your thread into the maine one discussing system specs, hopefully you will get some more info on what you can do to enjoy the Beta.

Do you mean mobile GT9700M? I have posted specification in this thread already, this GPU is much worse than minimal requirements (GTX260). Having more VRAM for GT9700M won't give you any performance increase.
