A custom PC could do the job if you're tight on space near to the screen:Hey guys, I was wondering if the PC I'm buying would be able to run Elite, and thought I ask here before I start a new thread.
So, do you this PC can run Elite on max settings? The PC I'm buying is an All-In-One (yes I know, a proper desktop PC is much better but I'm buying this one for reasons). For gaming, it only needs to be able to run Elite, StarCraft II, Total War and a few old RTS-games on max settings. Other than that, the PC will be used for work and browsing the web since I mainly play games on consoles.
Here's the specs:
OS: Windows 8.1 64Bit
Processor: 4th Gen Intel Core i7-4770S processor (8 M cache 3,9 GHz)
Memory: 16GB DDR SDRAM 1600 MHz with double channels - 2 DIMM
Harddrive: SATA-HD 2TB, 7 200 RPM, 6Gbit/s + mSATA SSD 32GB
Screen: 27 inch LED (Adobe RGB QHD Resolution 2560x1440
Graphic Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2GB DDR5 with TPM
Network: Killer Wireless-N 1202
Here's the link to the PC, but the site is in Swedish.
[EDIT] found a english link on dell's international page.
Please keep in mind that the XPS 27 comes in three different configurations, and reviews online don't always specify wich one they are reviewing. The PC I'm buying is the PC in those links/specs I wrote above.
As I said, I know that a desktop PC with its own case is more bang for the buck, but I have my reasons for wanting an All-In-One PC, and this is the best I found with the limited knowledge I have about hardware specifications.
Definitely, it's a bloody minefield hahahaIt's typical naming shenanigans again. It's not even based on Maxwell, it's a Kepler chip. You have to be pretty careful when buying Nvidia hardwareTbh AMD are no better these days with their bizarre naming conventions.
No, the GPU is too weak.
It might be ok, hard to tell.
As the CMDRs have surmised, the GPU is far too weak for that screen size/resolution.
A custom PC could do the job if you're tight on space near to the screen:
- 27" Iiyama 1440P touchscreen
- Slimline MicroATX Case
- Slimline GTX 750Ti 2GB Graphics
- i5 CPU (i7 could give heat issues in such a small case)
- Lotsa RAM & SSD/HDD etc
No worries & happy to help, although I'd recommend something like the Antec Minuet 350 instead, as it takes standard MATX motherboards, and it's 350W 80% PSU will be powerful enough assuming an i5 & GTX 750Ti spec. The Mini Fractal will restrict you to a very limited selection of DTX motherboards. Thanks guys for your replies. I must say that I am dissapointed in the AIO's weak graphics card, seeing as everything else in it seemed good, guess I won't buy this PC. I'm glad I asked the Elite community before a purchase! So thank you.
Thank you GTuk!I'll talk to some of my tech savvie friends and ask them to help me build a PC, I'll make sure to pass them your tips.
Since I don't want much clutter, I was thinking of going with the Mini Fractal case, since it was small and stylish. I just hope I can get a good gaming PC out of it heh.
Hi Guys,
My current rig is pretty ancient and is nowhere near the minimum specs needed, so I need to splash out on a new tower...Can anybody suggest the most cost effective (i.e cheap as chips!) way of kitting myself out with something that'll run ED at a decent lick?
I've been out of the loop on PC stuff for quite a while, so I'm feeling my way back in!
Thanks
Don't think you have to replace you current setup (unless you are looking for an excuse)
I have a Core2Duo (E6700 I think) with 4GB or RAM and it runs 1280*1024 on High settings. I do have an SSD as my main drive and that is also where ED is installed but not sure it makes a difference.
I get 40-50FPS most of the time with 30ish in stations. A few stutters but plays great.
The one thing I did upgrade was the graphics card I have a SAPPHIRE HD 7870 GHz Edition OC 2GB GDDR5 that I picked up for £50 of an auction site
I really didn't think it would be playable but it works just fine and the rest of the machine is way below the min specs on the site.
New computer:Well, when I say ancient, I mean AMD Athlon...I've not upgraded anything on it since around 2007, so I reckon I'll treat myself to a fresh start!

Thanks for this - really useful starting point. I'll start doing some research and will then break open the piggy bank. Exciting stuff!!![]()
Ain't that the truth! There is great satisfaction in a self-built machine - if it works! <grins wryly>Exciting stuff!!
You obviously play nothing more then.
bf4, CoDAW use upto 7 gig.
recommended settings of 8 gig.
farcry4 uses a fair whack too.
that screenshot, you aren't doing anything.
start throwing in extra stuff where the calculations are needed, like dogfighting or loading system resources, that will go up.
As it stands ED isn't a big resource intensive game, which is nice.
Show me a screenshot of CoD or BF4 using 7 gigabytes of memory. Or any game. Actually scratch that - any TWO games together using 7GB of memory and you win.
