Console accounts transfer to PC

Frontier,

Without getting into the reasons that led to the decision to cancel ED console development, I think that it's the correct way to let us transfer ALL commander data from a console account to a PC account. Even if the storefronts are different, assets could be transferred in form of one-time use vouchers or a similar method. Assets that should be able to be transferred include:

1) Discoveries
2) Ranks
3) Permits
4) Ship unlocks (i.e. Cobra Mk IV)
5) Paid items such as skins
6) Credits

For me personally, the most important items are the first 4, with #5 a great thing if happened and #6 can always be replaced. But please, give us a way to walk out of console and into PC (some users are ready to do the jumps, other may do so in the future). That's would be the only way I think this horrible news can be at least mitigated. I've been playing since Xbox Game Preview, and spent thousands of hours in this game. Don't let me and others in a similar situation to get our journey truncated in such a sad way.
I agree with you man I want my crap that I worked hard for and we need to all complain til they right what they have started

I would love to transfer my xbox account to pc...only because I have the CobraMK4 on there only...never seen it in VR and quite like the idea of mining in VR in it!
Still sorry for console only players, recently bought a massive TV for my xbox, Elite looks great on it. Will continue any way on xbox, would even buy another account to keep going.

We can import our data to Inara
If you used the Frontier API to report to Inara or EDSM, your commander data should already be there.

My suggestion is that Frontier could use the same API, but reversing the process (not developed yet) to import that commander data back to a game account.

This would need to be done by FDev in an update to the launcher. FDev could store a copy of your commander data back to your Frontier account. You would then, via a new launcher provided by the update, to import your commander data back to your in-game account.

My suspiscion is that in a few weeks time, FDev is going to say that this technically isn't possible. Like Paul said, the API is one way. This is something that has been asked for almost since console launch. I know that when I was considering doing this, I talked myself out of it and had a friend help me move CR's over to PC via his carrier and some clever trading. I got all my credits off the XBox CMDR and moved to the PC, but retained all my ranks and whatnot. Starting over wasn't the most pleasant thing to do, but I did it...to go to the Cone Sector and well.....yeah.

Don't hold out hope, console folks, I don't see this happening.

Wouldn't say I'm holding out hope for this bunch of backstabbers.

Just that this is the only way to make it halfway right.

I think everyone knows what will happen but we are being vocal anyways just like almost a year ago.

we should organize safe credit only transfers tho.

I'm not starting again. I can guarantee you that.

Imagine if EDSM acrually saves the day
Yea, both EDSM and INARA, as well as some other sites and third party apps, all have commander data from the Frontier API, if you used it.

I don't know if consoles could use the API, or if possible, console commanders took the time to use the API to forward their commander data/stats to those third party sites which implemented the API.

But my suggestion does not depend on those third party apps or sites. When you have the Frontier API working, it just streams the commander data to those third party apps and sites you previously approved, but the API is just a secure way of delivering commander data to those sites and apps who also chose to implement the Frontier API with their own API key.

A Frontier commander account itself, could become a receiver of the API data, by adding itself to it's own authentication app and the Frontier API would send that commander data back to Frontier. As I stated above, via an update and change to the launcher, that commander data could then be downloaded back to your game account.

The only question that remains is, will Frontier make any effort to pull in those console players with a tool they currently own, by altering it a bit to serve this purpose.

So what if we have a console AND a PC....? can i just have all my console assets transffered to my PC account?
Frankly, no. Frontier currently states they do not have the expertise/time/resource to move a platform specific game account from one platform to another platform.

The best Frontier will do now for moving an account from one platform to another is a policy of "credits only" transfer.

Now, having said that, I don't think Frontier realizes they already own a tool called the Frontier API, which if altered and updated, could be used as part of a process to pull the commander data which the API sends out to third party sites, to pull that commander data back in, or to just have the API send the commander data back to Frontier in a format they could use to move a commander account from one platform to another.

Frontier has had no reasons to think of using the API in this way, but they do own it.

Given the intense vocal and emotional pleas of the console player base, Maybe Frontier now has a reason to spend the time/effort/resources to use this tool they developed to send commander data out to third party sites, to send themselves a copy of the commander data from a console, and use that copy as an import for PC accounts.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that something in EDs core coding prevents complete player transfer from console to PC. The game was built from the ground up a complex coding nightmare. If you can’t change the color of your HUD after 8 years, don’t be optimistic that you can change platforms.

And I was so stupid to buy one week ago for 20 € ingame money for pimping up my diamond explorer.

After this horrible decision, money for monitor.

Hopefully there will be a possibility to transfer everthing to PC.

I agree. While I can understand the reasons for Frontier dropping the consoles, transferring the console account with all archievements and progress to the pc play servers is the only fair way to go. Everything else would feel too lazy and like a slap in the face of those who spent so many hours of their real life into Elite. It was not the players fault, so they should not be punished for the results of the development trouble Frontier went into. 👀

Let's make this simple and voice certain truths:

1. If transferring account data from console to PC does happen, it will not be happening for a very long time.

2. It isn't too much of a reach to consider that transferring account data will actually never happen.

3. Even if account data transfer does happen, and happens within a short amount of time, FDevs will find a way to screw it up badly.

4. Regardless of all the above, can we really ever fully trust Frontier again?

Heh, you're missing this whole thing for what it is. Both console and PC Horizons will no longer get any new content (wait till they break the news that CG modules and decals are new content and we won't be getting those either). This is FDev's way of coercing PC Horizons players to buy the DLC in the face of all the negative reviews out there. It's also a way to hopefully get console players to buy the game for PC and keep playing.

For that to happen, they need a way to entice console players to outlay funds for a PC and the game if they don't already have one, or, if they have one to outlay funds to buy the game for PC and play it. They're absolutely going to give us a way to transfer our accounts to PC, but with caveats.

1. We'll need to pay full price for the base PC game and the DLC. More money for FDev.
2. We'll get to transfer our character, including ranks, ships and modules, but not livery or ARX items, we'll have to purchase those again. More money for FDev.
3. PC Horizons players will pay for the DLC to get any new content. More money for FDev.

This is a simple cash grab to prop up a failing stock price for investors...nothing more.

I haven't played since the launch of Odyssey. I have not purchased it, and they're not getting a single red cent from me until I see full VR support for Odyssey.
