Console Profile Copy Process - Live Now!

I really don't mind to star on Sidewinder again. Actually, I've bought notebook, a new copy of Elite and start anew, cause it took me too long to decide. It took me a week to get a Dolphin and a Guardian FSD Booster. Then another week to travel to Colonia and now I've got more money I can spent (ridiculous amount of 1.5 billions). The only thing I really care about on my Playstation Account is a Distant World 2 decal (and chromed Dolphin paintjob?). The other things I can buy again.
Kinda the same here. I want my DW2 decal, and a few unique (Frontier xmas gifted) skins on my PC account. I could not care less about the rest of all the stuff I have for I can earn it quickly again. Same for my bought items from the cash shop and the points I still have (€30 euro left or so) - don't care, it's just money and I can customize my new ships again the way I want it now).

I stopped playing Elite when it became apparent that Odyssey wouldn't be coming to consoles.
I don't own a gaming PC and I certainly wasn't going to buy one just to play Elite.
I therefore missed the console transfer opportunity as I was inactive in game and in the forums.

Some of my squad members mader the move to PC and made me aware of the GeForce Now service which would allow me to play Elite Dangerous Odyssey without having to fork out for a gaming PC.
I gave it a go and I'm pleased to report that it works flawlessly.

Because I missed the transfer window, which I thought was available 'indefinately' - I have started again with a new commander.
The only things I would like from my console account (approx 3000 hours) are things like permits and unique ship decals etc. I've got around 300 hours in my new commander and I don't want a full transfer. It would be nice if we could transfer just assets and progression items from old console accounts without the need to delete my new commander - it can't be that difficult - or can it?
Either way some news on this topic from FDev would be appreciated.

you should have waited...

I'm sure Frontier have a poor track record with those CMDRs who wanted console transfers yet missed out on such transfers due to being either too impatient and/or entitled to pay much attention to it actually happening.

Contact support - they can transfer your cosmetics (no arx tho) you have on your console account.
They may as well be able to transfer your wealth (assets converted to credits) - but this may imply that your console account will be deleted at the end of transfer process.
This will not transfer permits, rank progression, engineer unlock or materials.

If you want those you need to wait till they reopen the copy/transfer process.
And be advised that process will not allow account merging - you had to transfer console progress in a new account or in a pre-existing account that had a clear-save performed before the copy

That seems unnecessarily critical, don't you think? I'm waiting on the next window to open for a transfer because when they opened it last year I'd been away from the game for personal reasons, I missed it entirely, but I also feel more than a little put out by having the game I've enjoyed so much put on life support.

They didn't just choose to not sell Odyssey on consoles, that would have been disappointing but maybe understandable (and would have allowed for some hope that it may be available someday if they port to current gen consoles instead of continuing to support past gen ones). Instead, they put the console version of the game in full maintenance-only mode. Different servers, no new content regardless if it's Odyssey only or not and critical bugfixes only. Seems to me, based on the track record from the way FDev has handled bugs / balance / following up on promises (like publishing development roadmaps and maintaining active engagement with the community) it's perfectly reasonable for console players to be a bit salty and a bit skeptical of anything that isn't happening right now.

How dare Frontier keep a game running for 9 year old hardware. I'm glad they don't agree with your sentiment to cut the servers for the ancient consoles and instead keep them running for those that enjoy playing the game as it is.

On a more realistic point, seeing as Frontier are such a profit-oriented business they would have happily provided on-going support for ancient console hardware, and ports to the latest console tech, as it'd be an easy route to the console gamer gravy train. Unless many console gamers didn't buy the game and ARX, and were actually a net deficit instead.

But I'm sure it isn't that. Oh well.

I dont think it has anything to do with Frontier deciding to end console transfers, or console development. But for players like my self who couldnt afford a PC at the time, and waited over a year for just the slightest news on when consoles would get Odyssey, just to be told that not only are we not getting Odyssey, but a game that we love and enjoy is getting essential killed, was a pretty big slight. I understand why Frontier did it. Odyssey would not work on consoles, and its more work than its worth to make two separate universes and keep them both updated. What I dont understand is why it took so long for them to come to this realization and then to announce it. You probably have a PC and saw how Odyssey was on $1000+ PCs. I am not a hardware, software, or development engineer by a longshot, but even I could tell theres no way in hell we'd ever get Odyssey. I also know that Frontier probably arrived the decision to stop console development a while before they announced it.

Either way, there is no need to be so sarcastic towards others and their opinions. We all share the same game.

You didn't NEED a PC to do the transfer...you could do the transfer when it was available with your current console assets and use the account at any time in the future when you eventually got a PC, it would just sit there waiting for you to log in.

From where my life was at the time, I did not think I would ever get a PC so I stopped following elite news closely. I checked about once a month, because accessing a browser is not part of my everyday console use. And my phone is like 5 years old and I only use it for calls. I dont expect frontier to specifically cater to people like that, but still. One week? Why not two?

Then that's not a Frontier problem is it!

It's not. Losing customers is though.

You can't fix problems when you don't have either the capability or the responsibility to do so, sometimes customers are best left to be ex-customers, you will always lose some customers no matter what business, the trick is to gain more than you lose!

Yeah, but let's not pretend the whole console development cancellation situation is all the players' fault.
