Console Profile Copy Process | Release Plan

Greetings Commanders!

This is it! We opened the door to September!
As mentioned in this week's Discovery Scanner, this month is absolutely a one for some quite large scale events, one specifically being the console profile copy process, with the release of the console profile copy portal.

We have the latest news on our targeted release plan for console profile copy portal in place for you today, which you can absorb over in the following post: www.elitedangerous.com/news/console-profile-copy-process-release-plan.

For those of you with questions around the other big bit of Galaxy-keeping, '4.0', outside of console copying - We're working on the release plan for this too it and will be back with specifics in dedicated communications as soon as possible.
Still on track though!

Keep looking up (or...down. Who knows when you're up in space, I know)!

o7 Commanders.
Would it be possible for me to sign up for the beta?

If you aren't short of credits you can keep your carrier on console and buy another on PC after transfer.
Ships and modules should be copied directly to your carrier if that's where they are prior to transfer. As you aren't friends with the new commander and they aren't your squadmate you'll want to set docking to ' all' and consider fitting a shipyard and outfitting.
That most likely won't work because when you copy your console save over, it will overwrite your current pc save with the already purchased carrier. That specific pc carrier belongs to that specific pc cmdr. Once your console save overwrites that pc save, the pc carrier is likely decommissioned.

Your console save is literally just cloned they said, then moved onto a pc account. So because carriers do not transfer over with your cloned save, everything that is stored on your console carrier has no place to go.

Say carriers themselves DID transfer over, all the ships and modules stored in your console carrier will copy over to your pc account no problem, because everything stored in your console carrier would come over with the carrier itself. But since that is not the case, and carriers DO NOT copy over, where will all your stored ships/modules go on your new pc save? There's no duplicate carrier for them to carry over to.

Do you lose everything that was inside of your console carrier when you boot up your pc save, due to the carrier incompatibility between cloned save files?

Or do the ships/modules that were stored on your console carrier magically end up at a random station on pc?

Or do you need to move all your ships/modules off your carrier and into a station before you apply for the save transfer/copy? Frontier hasn't stated anything about this yet unfortunately.

Thanks Sally. I'm almost as giddy as I was when I had to wait 5 weeks for EDH to be released on PS4. Although I got excited for Odyssey on PS4 and that didn't work out so well so I'll try to keep my giddiness in check....No promises though

Will I need a new clean E-mail address for the transfer or can I use the same one that I use for my PlayStation network account and this forum as well as other things? Had it for years and would prefer to keep using it

If it's a Gmail, like user@gmail.com, you can have user+extra1@gmail.com. Everything after the + is ignored by Gmail, and emails get delivered to the original account. I use this for my alt commanders.

That beta tester emblem you're handing out is super cool, glad you're compensating those who test the feature.
To everyone making the jump, welcome to PC, can't wait to meet you out there in the black. o7 CMDRs.

Dunno if this has been asked before, will Galaxy map bookmarks and key bindings cross over? I’ve got a PC account as well as Xbox but I’m gonna clear save the PC account so I can have a new CMDR name. I suppose I could back up the bindings from that account before the transfer.

bookmarks from your console CMDR should be xferred as they are stored on your CMDR. However, your visited stars data (for the galaxy map filter) and bindings will NOT carry over. They are stored locally.

I recommend backing up your binding files.

Little note: Sorry I was only here shortly after posting - I had a direction to run in that took up the remainder of the afternoon.
What I am majorly grateful of is to the many of you helping fellow Commanders out with their answers! Thank you so much!
I'm going to catch up on this thread anyway and pull out any bits to respond to this morning.
Happy Friday!

Hi All,
I thought I'd ask here rather than bother customer support. I'm sure they are busy right now. I transferred my account from PC to PlayStation because my PC died. I kept my Steam account and frontier store account active and linked my PS4 profile to my frontier store account. I can see that they are linked when I login.
Does anyone know if after the profile copy whether my previous store purchases (prior to ARX) will be available to my PC Cmdr in Odyssey?

This is why I moved all my stuff to on to one station last night just to be safe and parked my self close to the nearest FC shop.

The carrier belongs to my main on PS4.
The copy should appear in the same location aboard my carrier, along with my fleet and modules.
As the carrier counts as a station it should be as safe a coriolis.

Please see earlier posts in this thread which explain this.
You can keep your FC on console as it is persistent in the galaxy and all platform users can see/use it (PS, XB and PC) (forever, or until console servers are switched off?).
If you have enuf credits, you can buy one on the new PC a/c and have 2!
If you don't have enuf Cr, then you must decommission the console FC first to get a credit Refund BEFORE the transfer, so you can then afford to buy one on the new PC a/c.

Your Fleet and all modules (except for Arx) are on both a/c's after the a/c transfer.
I do have enuf to buy another FC, but will not use the new PC a/c until I get a suitable PC/Laptop/TV (with Geforce Now apparently).

Yes, they aren't being transferred, sell your FC on XBOX and get the money, that will transfer with you to PC and then you can buy a new one.

Selling the Carrier requires some planning - i'm foreseeing a lot of warcries during transfers 😂

People interested in decommissioning carriers prior to migration/copy process should read the linked thread below
The most important aspects:
  • there is a 150 millions credits decommission fee
  • you need to start decommissioning before Sunday, 1900GMT, to have the decommission happening by the end of the next week (less than 7 days). better not wait for the last minute. Else your decommission will happen in more than 7 days.
  • cargo onboard will be refunded (LOST as cargo, but at least you get the credits value at galactic average)
  • tritium in the Depot is lost (if full 1000t, 50+ millions credits)

I already know all that. My question wasn't about the FC's, what happens to them, and how to get another one after the transfer, it was about what happens to all the ships/modules that are stored on your FC after your save gets moved to pc, since your pc account won't have a carrier to move them to. You can not buy another FC on pc until your console save is transferred to pc. You need an account to play on pc to do that, and wont have one until after the transfer is complete. By the time you get in game on pc to buy another carrier, all of your ships/modules will have been already transferred to pc, but without another FC to transfer them to.

When you transfer, you should have two sets of everything. One set stays on console, and the duplicate set of ships and modules goes to pc. The problem is, even though your console FC is persistent and will keep all your console set of ships/modules, your pc account will not have a FC to copy the second set of all your ships/modules to. So where does it go?

You can not fly to your console FC with your pc account and claim your first set of ships/modules for your pc account.

Even though both accounts are technically duplicates, your console carrier is only accessible by your console cmdr. There needs to be another carrier for all your ships/modules to transfer to. Since there isn't, where does all the ships/modules that are stored on your console FC go after the transfer? That is my question.
