Could or should Frontier enhance the FSS or add in and incorporate an optional ADS-like expansion module?

I just don't think the current FSS is good enough to spend much time with. I expected something else from the "exploration update", like comets, witchspace anomalies, exotic startypes, rogue planets, alien story, pirate stations. Sort of things and ideas that have been floating around since this game came out.

Yes, I think what you describe is what a lot of people were hoping for. But once they are found what then?

I spent most of 2017 out on the far side of the galaxy, I didn't dock for over a year, I spent a lot of it looking for fumeroles, and found maybe a dozen sites, all on tiny moons, no more than one per body. I was up to the challenge, but really it was too hard. In January 2019 I spent about a month testing out the new mapping & codex tools, I earned around 1.3bCr in exploration data (double what I'd earned in 2017) and saw so many fumeroles & other persistent POIs that I no longer bother to visit them for anything other than as a source of mats.

Maybe there is stuff still out there to be found the hard way, but I'm not going to be the one to find them with the current exploration toolset :(

I don't care one way or the other. :)

I think not caring is the expected solution ;)

I don't really care about tags, so I've just stayed in explored space for the most part. I repaired a station, currently I'm fighting a BGS war with a player group, ironically making good use of mapping within the bubble to get exploration data for tactical use. Still plenty of game to play for me :)

I used to search for places too, brain trees, guardian sites, pumpkins, earth-like moons, strange looking worlds orbiting ammonia bodies. It used to feel like there could be anything out there. Things like generation ships, crashed ships, far away persistent points of interest would stay hidden until passed close enough to discover them. It was a big thing when thargoid sites first appeared. Once I passed an undiscovered INRA site just barely, when there was a hunt going on. I wouldn't return to eyeballing days though. I've always liked the mechanic they had on locating mission specific procedurally generated data points, I would rather have worked on these kind of systems.

When I first saw the FSS, I thought it was a very good implementation for examining a system. I had feared a convoluted mini-game, but it turned out quite alright. As a replacement of flying towards the body and point at it for 30 seconds, it was a welcome feature indeed. The first live stream I did voice my appreciation for the system, but I didn't know at the time the population of the system map would be removed. I was rather happy with the exploration flow I envisioned. When finding a system which I liked, I'd go into the FSS and get more information about the planets within the system, and after that looking at potential POIs on planets I'd like to examine a bit further.

The only problem I have with it is the frequency I have to use it. That's it. If it allowed me to be more focused in it's use, I'd be cheerleading the FSS on this forum and would still be happily exploring and probably chasing after that Lagrange foggy stuff.

How did you make this year long saga sound sadder than it already is? I'm weeping, i only thought it was this bad.

Best post of the thread. We’ll need to link it again in future threads from the get-go, then listen to all the “Well, but...” from the ADS crowd.

This thread was started by someone who was already aware of it. Many of the posters in this thread contributed to that thread too, it does not change the problem.

FDev know they have needlessly divided the community in a way that could have been easily avoided at the time and is still easily corrected. This is not Hotel California, there is a simple solution to this problem, and FDev know what it is:

They just need to put those old modules back into outfitting. It's that simple.

When first designing the FSS, we wanted to ensure that it was engaging for as many different player types as possible, but also understood that it would not be possible to design a system that would work for everyone. Before the FSS was implemented, we also collected feedback from discussions on the forum and the beta.

I think at the time we were so gobsmacked at being told to shut up further in that post we never considered the possible redacted for politeness of this claim.

After a thousand forum pages, i think theres conclusive proof there are many inspired solutions, ranging (and grouping) around the least effort imaginable to complete reworking of the given fss concept into a solution that would absolutely work for everyone. Ziggy wouldn't have cried.

The claim that feedback was collected from discussions .... now infamously before the feature was launched.. so they listened to a bunch of spiteful ads haters stamping around hate when building a feature? Surely not... hate shouldnt be a valid inspiration for game design at the cost of removing choice.

.... Yay go fss. Its just not possible sorry.

Not sure how that changes the hypocrisy here, then again, you should know losing something feels worse than never having it in the first place, so should FD...
I find it funny when people dramatize the loss of a single feature like the ADS. I’m a SWG veteran. We all had literally YEARS of progress torn away from us when SOE decided to basically redo the core leveling and job mechanics. All my career progress lost. All my met gear use requirements reset. All the grind for nothing. Didn’t stop me from playing or paying my monthly subscription, though. Kept at it for years to come until they shut the servers off.

Don’t talk to me about losing something in a game, I’ve got you beat handily.

Our "asking" was way more subtle than your perma nagging, believe me.

So you admit to asking for the ads to leave? First time you’ve been direct about your intentions let’s all be clear on what basis were coming from.

For reference, most people here are wanting an inclusive solution for all players, not maintaining an exclusive position for an extreme minority.

You realize you’re the extreme minority, right?

Are you kidding, if you did a poll of the greater player base asking if you hated the ads how many people do you think would care? It’s prior functionality was trivial.

It’s only in the post fss rebalancing of the rewards that anyone would even question the effort reward equation of the fss.. which is an extreme god of everything for nothing.

ps. Thanks to said pico commander and a mouse macro.. you can actually avoid the worst spoiler to fight explorers and I’ve been kicking the tyres on it.. might actually be okay.. still testing.
