Something very interesting just happened. Was honking and scanning systems for close to 3 hours on my route near the Coalsack nebula... with 4 jumps left, I arrived at a system with two rocky planets and one ice planet. Near one of the rocky planets I detected a biological signal... and I say near because the signal is some ~200000 km away from the rocky planet. I'm heading there now to investigate, it's a long way there so I'll report in 10 minutes if I find something of interest.
name de sistem dude

ALL ABOARD HMS PILKINGTON LEAVING FOR COALSACK NEBULA AT 13:15. LOCATED IN KATTA. ANY LATE ARRIVALS LET ME KNOW ILL DELAY FOR A COUPLE MINS IF NEEDED. HAVE SHIPYARD AND OUTFITTING INSTALLED.

Fleet Carrier has departed.
Just got to the system and saw ur ship so docked with it

My theory, for what it’s worth is...

Coalsack Nebula. The stones. He keeps watching the stones.
And the subsequent audio message referencing a geological planetary survey team...

Could be referencing a new Guardian site – the stones (monoliths) being watched and activated in some way to unlock a new Guardian weapon/technology.
This could be because with the return of the Thargoids and perhaps something bigger (Thargoid motherships) we will need some more tech to fight them.

And perhaps the Thargoids have been monitoring the planetary survey team investigating the Guardian tech/site and killed them.

Anyway, something along those lines.

Hmm for anyone interested, My FC is called Youthful Indiscretion.
Currently in the HIP 62154 system orbiting 6A.
Has nothing special on it but it wont be moving until we find out more after the server downtime.
Feel free to use it, its set @0% service charge.
You can even catch a ride back to the bubble, just message me so I dont leave without you :)
I am a brit so my playtime's are ingame time.

"He keeps watching the stones", eh?

Anyone else think the message isn't complete?

They purposefully ended it with a binary 'space' character. Perhaps the message also starts with a binary 'space' character......

Theorising that the update will activate whatever the message refers to, it makes sense that FD don't wan't people finding the location until the update is complete. Hence there is more message to come....?

tbh its a junk message anyway. that is, its not a "real" binary message. "space" in binary is not represented by a "space". its represented by a binary value. so in truth the ASCII binary code for a space should be included in the message. a computer reading binary doesn't adhere to or recognize "spaces" or the fact the message demarcates the binary into 8 bit chunks.

so there is already a level of creative choice the same way physics is implemented in the game. what that means is they don't really have to follow all the rules OR they have simplified the rules to make the puzzle simpler to solve.

but to your point, and following the pattern of each line being a 64 bit string separated into 8 bit chunks and given there is only a 2-bit binary value hanging at the end of the message it would suggest there are 6 missing bits

If we don't hear from you (checks clock) should we start worrying ?

I'll be damned! Found an occupied escape pod floating near the planet... grabbed it as soon as I got close. Further investigation uncovered there was something in there, but to my surprise, it wasn't human... but an animal. A small black cat with white patches... had a collar with "Dr. Whiskers" written on it (had to cut the collar, the poor animal was stuck on a handle...). Looks to be in good health, well-fed, a little sleepy... seems it didn't float in space for long.

I immediately started conducting some experiments... figured it may lead me to Dr. Murphy or the settlement, if there is any. Below is the photograph of the experiment.

Recognition Experiment with Dr Whiskers.jpg

I placed a PDA (with the unidentified binary code on the screen) in front of "Dr. Whiskers"... it approached carefully and started investigating the unfamiliar object.. and then, all of a sudden, the subject started to shake vigorously... hissing at and scratching the PDA, seemed like it remembered... no, recognized something... had the strangest look in its eyes... it fell in a deep state of shock ... I sedated the poor animal with a mild sedative, gave it food and water and let it rest for some time.

Final note: The results are inconclusive... further testing required...

I'm sorry.

Dude... love the RP. I was skeptical about your first post, but the wrap up was purrfect! 🤣
