Newcomer / Intro Crystalline Shards

I used EDDB to find a system near you and see if that worked. Try this

Outotz ST-I d9-6

Looks like Ratchet Hub in Jaralis might be your nearest manufactured

Why wont Inara work for me and how did you use EDDB. I tried EDDB but it just says material trader not a specific one such as raw?

I pasted your current system in to EDDB to find another system nearby to then paste in to Inara to see if it would work. As I said above, but may have been missed with the speed at which this thread is moving, that your current system didn't work for me either, it defaulted to my last dock.

Using Inara and the new system I listed allowed me to get results. Not sure why Inara is not working on that system you are in. But if you try a different one in close proximity to where you are now as the reference system it may work for you. That's what I was attempting.

Ok thanks for your help. It is showing a raw material trader nearest with that system you gave me.

I have been looking into geological and biological sites (POI as I understand them now). But biological doesnt say about getting raw materials it talks about life and 5 types of life found at them. Geological have four protusions but what do biological sites have? The same? What am I looking for to collect the best raw materials at the biological sites I will be landing at?

Edit: I now see the 4 types of growth at a biological site that produce raw materials when shot. So do I go for whichever one of these has my target raw material?

So if I target the biological locations given to me earlier (biological site numbers per planet to visit) will I find the crystalline clusters growing on the crystalline shards? Will there be the other fungal growths as well? I am wondering about collecting other stuff while I am there.

I am on a very steep learning curve at the moment especially at the moment with regard to raw materials and planetary prospecting. So I apologize if I seem to be a bit confused at times. I am enjoying this learning experience very much and appreciate all the help I am getting.

If you go to the locations that have been suggested HIP 36601 and Outotz LS-K D8-3 you will be able to comfortably fill your grade 4 raw material allowances - 150 of each. It took me a couple of sessions to do it, not IMO the greatest gameplay after a while, but not difficult and each bio site has enough to completely fill your allowance. The recommended sites are probably the easiest for navigating in the SRV, I cannot recall which sites I went to, but if one seems difficult to drive around just get back in the ship and fly to another one.

I can't recall there being other stuff at these sites, but I was there for the grade 4 materials, and months later I still have around 90 of all of them, and I've done a fair bit of engineering and traded a few also.

While the game would like for you (the player) to treat it as a second life and organically collect stuff, if you decide to farm (and this is farming), I'd suggest just going with that purpose in mind. If you find you enjoy driving the SRV on planets then over time you will collect other things, but if you decide to try and do it organically rather than targeted, be aware that the RNG will probably drive you nuts, and you'll never get what you need when you need it. :) So keep it simple and go there and fill up your grade 4 raw materials. ;)

how do I know what I may need?
One way is to use this page in Inara

Click on the Type heading until you see the raw materials at the top then if you click on one of the material names it will take you to a page showing what the material is used for.

aRJay was kind enough to show you the answer. You've asked what you should do next in Elite. I recommend taking a few hours and having a look at everything Inara offers. Asking on the forum is fine, that's what it's here for. But I think many of these questions could be answered by learning what it (and other third party sites) can do for you. You'll notice that many answers to your questions are in the form of a link to an Inara page. It's very useful tool, my favorite for sure, but it can only help if you know how to make best use of it.

I would say not only Inara, but also other sources. There is a large number of very good content creators out there and there are guides on YouTube for essentially everything you can do in the game. Just check the video publication date, if it is too far in the past, mechanics may have changed.

I agree. I am using Inara all the time and learning from it constantly. I also use third party sites where possible. I look for videos and sites to help me all the time. I ask questions a lot but not if I have already found the answers (although sometimes to check). I am still new to all that is ED but really enjoying myself. I have learned so much already, mainly thanks to the forum members but also my own strategies, research and thoughts about ED. I love learning new things. I have covered a lot of ground in a short space of time - what a ride!

Did you try wringing out using your thrusters?

If nothing else works: Quit the game then start the vanilla game, i.e., without Horizons. You should find yourself in orbit.

It does have thrusters, but they are a separate map. You have to assign them under SRV controls. That should lift you right off the rock. You should do this so you can hop over whatever is in your way. Nothing to slow you down.

what is a separate map? where can I find the thrusters?

Particularly useful for effectively flying and jumping up mountain walls on low G planets and just generally avoiding rocks on the ground. A much smoother ride.
