Data cleanup efforts throughout the galaxy

Do you guys like EDSM? The Market Connector? Spansh? If so, consider taking part in small efforts to clean up bad or missing data throughout these fine tools! A lot of data was after all manually entered over time, or back when the game didn't have such fancy APIs to help out. Soo, there's a lot of systems with unknown coordinates, wrong types, planets with zero gravity, you name it!
I've recently finished an in-bubble effort to go to all stations with a market that -never- had a visitor with EDMC, folks enjoyed it. (Thank you Orvidius, yianniv, bsmith993, V~NIBBLA~V, ethelred, FrogsFriend and anyone else I'm forgetting) And that was about 300-400 stations we cleared data for inside the bubble.

Now if like me you're "the right kind of crazy" I'd like to share the tricks I know to help clean up our exploration databases:

Tip #1: Always use EDMC or EDDIscovery to send data to our databases (that goes almost without saying). And have your account in EDSM.
Tip #2: Favor EDMC, get your hand on the Red Star Eliminator (https://github.com/Thurion/EDSM-RSE-for-EDMC) While you travel, this plugin tells you the nearest system with uncertain coordinates in EDSM... Up to 700 light-years or so. Use sparingly as you do other stuff, there's a LOT of 'red stars' out there.
Tip #3: https://www.spansh.co.uk/ has a bodies search that is amazing. I personally had fun travelling the galaxy to scan planets with zero radius and make the EDSM data that little bit more believable. One more trip and I'm done (I had help). N.B.: Spansh updates bodies about once per two weeks or month or so, so if you cleanup something on a list, it will take a while before you see the impact.

Here's some fun searches in spansh I occasionally consult, and amidst an exploration trip, I'll veer to clean up a few since there's thousands of these worlds:
Planets with 0 Gee: https://www.spansh.co.uk/bodies/search/5D938B12-E951-11E9-A678-CE5CEEB0430A/1
Planets with 0 distance to arrival: https://www.spansh.co.uk/bodies/search/9BD9F87A-E951-11E9-813C-1868EEB0430A/1

And here is a fun project to tackle as a group: typeless bodies, the database isn't even sure if these are worlds or stars! https://www.spansh.co.uk/bodies/search/134D31C4-E952-11E9-9B83-934EEEB0430A/1
And less than a month before we started, we're done! All systems with oddball typelessness have been rescanned and are normal in EDSM!

I fnot otherwise occupied I would like to participate. The problem is, that I fly on Playstation. I have just an EDSM account and it regularly logs my travels. But I do not have the other tools.
So the question is: how can I contribute? Or is it enough with just EDSM?

You can contribute by visiting the bodies listed in any of the Spansh links above - the only thing you'd not be able to do easily is do the Red Co-ordinate stuff. You could, however, pull the SystemsWithoutCoordinates.json file from here parse it yourself, and then visit those systems that are listed.

Been doing a bit, however for some strange reason all the systems listed in the Spansh links are over 10kly away, oh well, so I am using the Red Star Eliminator. It didn't show anything at first so I wasn't sure whether it was working or everything was just over 700ly away, so I traveled a few hundred light years and up popped a link. I ended up dropping into a few systems however it seems I have stumbled across the trail of a long vanished explorer in a low jump range ship and it's likely this path would lead me across the galaxy in jumps or around 25 to 30ly, so rather than following it all the way I will clear up a few more in my general area then resume my original mission and pick it up again in another area.

It would be nice if we manage to find all the coordinates from all the systems in EDSM, but there are quite a lot of them and not enough commanders.

I think the fastest way would be coordinating 4 or 5 players spreaded a few hundred ly in the same sector and using a common list to be less boring. If there are people interested I would join in that effort.

Is EDSM working correctly for you? I took a trip out to Sag A back when I first heard it was working with the PS4. About a quarter of the way into the trip though the site was updated and it either stopped tracking my progress, or it was sticking me out in the Norma Expanse (went through that region on the way to Sag A) when I had actually completed my trip and had returned to the Bubble. Pretty much gave up on EDSM after that.

I see you say to use EDMC or EDDiscovery but i have both EDDI and G19s, both of which are capable of uploading to EDSM.

Any reason to not use those for this effort?

I think anything that uploads to EDSM will do the trick, but I thiunk you have to make sure that you are uploading from only the one program. I have EDDiscovery set to upload and other helper apps have the upload to EDDI and EDSM disabled.

As I understand, while no point to it, there is no harm having multiple apps uploading. Its just redundant, causing uncessary overhead.

Have entered everything into my bookmarks, I am way out here near Schigneia VQ-J c23-0 , so I am doing that then heading in the direction of beagle point to get Greae Byio BL-V d3-9 and Nuwo FE-E d13-3, I was looking for a reason to go out that way again ;)

Oh yes bookmarks, if they do anything for 2020 update they simply must fix that up, why can't we just import a delimited file of system names into bookmarks, manually entering a renaming them is a pain, an hour or more I spent doing that!

As I'm sure you know, over the years there's been many requests for bookmark updates (folders, import, export, etc) but my main two are:-
  • Increase the 128 bookmark limit
  • Different colours
But I'm not holding my breath ...

I had that issue, too. But just right after it worked for consoles at all. It was fixed sometime early in 2019.
The only issue I encounter sometimes now is that the update process get's stuck if a lot of activities took place during one day. But than it is enough to simly reload the dashboard.

This sounds like a great project for IGAU to assist with. I'll send over a coalition request through Inara, and we can discuss in more detail via discord!
