It was a worth while read, but the whole piece suffered from the writer being uninformed or to to lazy to fact check and ask very Meh questions, "Creator of...".
As for the "Free", as a lep owner (the expensive one), I don't care, ED is by a country mile the cheapest game I have ever played in pence per hour terms, I will be playing it until I die or the servers go dark, I hope the latter. [haha][haha][haha]

Is this a thread about semantics xor an interview where some chap said some stuff about a game.
Rep to Jakestar for posting that, but I have to say I am dismayed at how the thread broke down into bickering. My take on the contentious issue of pricing of updates is that I bought the game, it had just prereleased horizons, so I bought the game and horizons beta access, so in addition to everything on 1.0 I also inherited for free all the new functionality of 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, & 1.5 updates, all of which were free to those who bought the base game. When they released 2.0, and continued to develop it so I then recieved 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 & 2.4 for free. However they didn't stop giving stuff to 1.X players, I believe the return brought the 1.x model 1.9? and that means 1.x customers have had 9 big updates for free each of which could have been packaged as a seperate paid for DLC, just go into your microsoft windows store and look at the maze of paid for DLC's forza games have.

It's not about semantics, he downright lied. The semantics bit has been brought in by white knights defending the lord braben; there is no ambiguity in his post and the context even backs up his meaning as he immediatly follows it by saying cosmetics are the only thing charged for. My annoyance is the mixed comms; so are we getting new paid DLC (as devs suggested) or not? Is horizons now gonna be free going forwards? It's clear as mud.

Horizons was obviously a sold expansion so he is wrong there, but we know they will not be doing the season model again, they’ve said as much. Maybe the Elite Store is so profitable that from now on all updates will in fact be free, and this is what David was thinking when he said that?

I agree it is lot of confusing. I think it is time for FD to finally come out and clarify path forward regarding paid/free content for ED, we are closing to second half of the year so it is not like there's much time to left.
OMG, he lied to us, how dare he. Or his comments could have been taken out of context, parts of the interview could have been left out (happens a lot) or he could mean going forward with the beyond type updates, or he could have meant something else or just made a mistake in wording or a whole heap of other things.
One thing for sure is that it makes no sense to lie like that when we can all read it. So I have to assume it was just a mistake of some kind either from DB or the interviewer.
I wish people would use logic, but that unforuntely seems to be missing in the forums these days.

Perhaps, but not only does it still remain poor communication it contradicts what the devs have said, so which is it? Is everything free or are we still expecting paid DLC content? Guess we just await clarification #FeelinglikeaMushroom.
I think its a safe bet that we will still be getting paid for DLC sometime in the future as well as free DLC like beyond at the same time.
For long time I accept people respond emotionally, that's why we get all these wild claims. But FD dropped a ball here (someone ack interview version after all) and I agree they need to clarify David's words, because they are taken seriously. It is worth to pager CM team about this.
Agreed. Clearly there are some wires crossed from Frontier on the marketing strategy for the game going forward. Clarification would be a better direction than uncertainty on the issue.
It's not worth getting wound up about.
If you don't think you had value for money out of the LEP that's always the risk you take with that sort of thing.
If cosmetics can keep the game going that's great, I never thought I'd buy any but I have.
I would say it's 60/40 that ED+Horizons will be the new future base game, but they won't say that now because people are still buying it, that's business.

I've read the entire article and I honestly don't understand why this thread has got so wound up. Maybe the second poster did this?

updating borked or "not working as required by the players" (instead of what FDev intended) stuff doesn't count as a "free update" - you broke it, you fix it.
Oh and lets not forget all the missing stuff that should have been in the horizons package, but wasn't because they took 2 years to do it and it was starting to take the wee wee.
