Desert biome: what we have, what we need

Striped hyena, Patagonian mara, caracal, emu, Przewalski horse, addax, collared peccary + thorny devil is a lineup I would love. Representing deserts from all over the world.

Honestly, I really really don't want a dromedary in a DLC. It's a copy paste animal from the bactrian camel. I do want the dromedary, but it's such a low effort animal I want a paid slot to go to an animal that brings something new.
Its really not though. Here we have the ingame camel and two pictures of them. I honestly dont really like the model and think they should be much much fluffier and maybe have some variations in floof level, but its clearly distinct from a dromedary.

This shot shows it quite well i think. Compare it with the side shot from above, thats a giant difference in fluff and texture, aswell as the fact that they not only appear to be skinnier, but also more bony. I hope this makes sense, but i honestly dont see this as quite low effort.

Good list so far but I would add the Ringtail, roadrunner, 9-banded Armadillo, and Burrowing Owl for North America. Also the Western Spadefoot toad.

As for other desert animals, Sidewinder would work, as would be Eastern Sand Gecko and Desert rain frog. Desert exhibit animals work very well.

Sorry if I've missed it, but I don't see anyone suggesting a dama gazelle yet.
"Generally, Nanger dama is found in arid areas with sparse vegetation. However, its habitat changes slightly throughout the year, as this animal migrates seasonally. Dama gazelles resides on the pastures and plateaus of the Sahara desert during the rainy season, and move to the open bushlands in the dry season. This species avoids the mountains and dunes of the region, instead opting for the flatter, stonier plains."

I found one stupid thing in the game: Gemsbok and Springbok doesn’t share same requirements and don’t have a inter species bonus. In nature they are always all around each other 🤷🏽

The desert biome animal pack is the one that I would really really like to see:

Dromedary
Porcupine
Emu
Wombat
Baboon
Stripped hyena
Caracal

but also antelopes like Addax, Arabian oryx, Scimitar oryx and definitely honey badger and leopard and Somali wild ass and Dama gazelle.

My only complaint with this is that North American deserts do have many species that in my eyes are at least adjacent enough to have the tag:
  • Collared Peccary, Ocelot, and White-Nosed Coati (all but the peccary are rare; all three also add represtation for tropical biome and Central/South America)
  • Desert Bighorn Sheep
  • Coyote (but please, no more genus Canis)
  • Kit Fox and Jackrabbit (both very small and IMO not that interesting)
  • American Badger
Of course, most of these are only found in zoos with areas specifically dedicated to the Sonoran desert, but... they still count!

For North Africa/Middle-East area, we need 3 more animals:

Dromedary camel
Striped hyena
Addax

For me, it'll be more or less complete.

For Asia, I think it's not bad our selection. We have the bactrian camel (domestic), the snow leopard, and we're getting the P-horse, so it's pretty good.

For Australia, the following:

Thorny devil
Perentie
Emu?
Frilled lizard

And finally, North America:

Any peccary
Roadrunner
Armadillo

The Emu is the most essential animal in my opinion at the moment. It is one of the most common kept animals in Zoos according to zootierliste (place 8) and the most common which is actually not in the game (without birds and domestic animals).

Yes, but what I meant by the question mark is of it lives in deserts or not. I'm not sure

For the middle east I'd also like the Hamadrayas baboon, porcupine, and I'd really like an ungulate like the arabian oryx, onager, and nubian ibex, but they are all very unlikely.

The sand cat and rock hyrax would also be pretty great.

I would hope for two packs:

Middle East/North Africa:
Dromedary Camel
Hamadryas Baboon
Arabian Oryx or Addax (put the other in desert pack)
Arabian Sand Cat or Caracal (put the other in desert pack)
Exhibit: Jerboa

Desert Pack:
Arabian Oryx or Addax (put the other in Middle East pack)
Arabian Sand Cat or Caracal (put the other in Middle East pack)
Collared Peccary
Jackal or Coyote or Grey Fox
African Spurred Tortoise
Armadillo
Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby
Exhibit: Thorny Devil

Other Options:
Jackal or Coyote or Grey Fox (pick the different sized one)
Emu (might be in an Oceania pack)
Somali Wild Donkey or Onager
Burrowing Owl or Roadrunner (cool, but I don't see them as likely)

I liked some of the others, but I could see them working well in a probable Safari or grasslands pack.
