LoL... Sadly, disrespect for other people and other people's opinions seems to be a nearly universal norm these days!
Seems obvious that Engineers was put into the game so that forum participants could be rude to each other...
Ive unlocked 3 engineers but Ive stopped now because I dont know how to unlock the others. The grind doesnt bother me in the slightest, nor the materials collecting...since starting with engineers, Ive found material collecting easy but the engineer unlocking...that part has me stuck.
I dont use out of game resources so theres the reason why Im stuck...I no longer ask questions on this forum because I simply cant be bothered with the inevitable salty replies.
So 3 engineers it is unless theres a glaringly simple answer as to what exactly Im supposed to do next...so far it eludes me ^

Hehe, that's actually a valid point.
Until you get an Invitation from an Engineer (unknowingly fulfilled the Invitation requirements), they're actually... invisible.
And there's indeed no in-game resource even pointing to their naked presence - nor any information as to what would trigger their Invitation xD
Might be worth tossing this missing link into the Suggestions Forum.
Apparently I need to be recommended by someone...someone I dont know, never heard of and cant find unless I trawl through reams of forum posts fer the next 3 hours. The first 3 were simple...go fetch stuff, scan stuff or travel a certain distance...childsplay happened when I wasnt even trying. The others...I dont even know where to begin.
As fer the grind itself...well Ive gone from zero to duke in less than 2 weeks with the empire and zero to senior petty officer with the feds...say ten days to get both simultaneously fer the sake of argument. Motives being ships with the empire and permits from the feds...done now and the grind was fairly easy and straightforward. Grinding has never been an issue fer me so long as I was in the right frame of mind to do it...currently Im in the right frame of mind because I enjoy it which means Im in the minority.
But where do I start with unlocking RNGeers? Ive never mined btw...wouldnt know where to start with that but I think I might need to learn. Thats a pure guess based on others on the forums moaning about some paltry 5klys...should be easy, I can cover 5klys in a T10 in a single afternoon and count the bubble as a temporary home...colonia is my actual home so distance really aint that much of an issue either.
But what exactly im supposed to do next and with whom...that is an issue. Without leaving the game to research what to do next...? Leaving the game to find out information that should be in the game...thats another issue...thats actually my biggest issue and if thats the case, then lets hope what 3 engineers offer is enough cos I will lose patience and interest if that is indeed the case. Thats on principle alone...not good enough FD, bad form ^
Hi Verminstar,
If you could tell me what three you have unlocked and the ones you want to do next, it would help understand your difficulty here. Each of the engineers tells you their requirements in the engineers tab on the right hand panel. Granted that the game does not tell you where to obtain a specific item (e.g. Soontill Relics
Or Meta Alloys)
You can buy these at Darnielle's Progress in the Maia system
However, Knowledge of these items isn't hard to come by, albeit you do need to go outside of the game to do so!
If you would like some help / guidance with the engineers, I'm very happy to do so!
I have nothing engineered.
Problem with me is one of humility...Ive ignored the RNGeers fer nigh on two years and got my elite ranks without them as I explored in non engineered ships...argued hard on these very forums that one really doesnt need RNGeers at all to play and enjoy this game.
Now, Im becoming addicted to them...grade 5 access with an hour siimply because I always have the materials...the two hags who deal with FSD and Todd the cannon guy. Those were easy, just travel...as an explorer Ive just happened to have done a little bit of travel...and hand in 10 bounties...an hours work in a clipper if that. Those were easy, straightforward, naturally progressing.
I dont want easy...offer me easy and Ill be personally offended...Im asking if the information I need to progress further is in the game and where does one find it within the game? Since coming back to the bubble and spending more than a few days here, Im beginning to like it...even spending 100% of my time in open so I do need RNGeers now whereas I didnt before...but unlocking them is infuriatingly devoid of information as to how ^
Ah! I think I understand that issue, you don't find them! Once you reach 33% of level 3 with the engineer, any engineers that they know, they pass on to you and you will receive an invitation to go see them. If it's in a system like Marco, you'll need to get allied with the faction before you will get the invitation, but they will appear in the engineers panel, as soon as you complete 33% at grade 3 with any engineer (assuming that the engineer has the names of others to pass on to you).
Edit. Do you consider advice from other players to be outside the game? If you prefer I can tell you what you need to do via the in game comms channel if that helps?
I guess I don't fully understand your self-restriction of in-game only, but I certainly respect it!
I dont mind getting advice at all from players, its sitting with my eyes glued to this forum or some other 3rd party website fer 3 hours with a notebook and pencil to take bullet notes that is my issue. Its also tricky to navigate whith the phone as I dont have a pc or laptop...I used to but one is a disabled lone parent and teenagers are too expensive to permit one to have all the toys, so parts never got replaced and older parts wore out and now Im a console player...worth bearing in mind, this might make ingame comms somewhat tricky.
My issue may be different to that of the OP...my issue is not with the jumping through hoops, its just not knowing where the hoops are and how high I gotta jump thats the issue with me. I agree they should be hard, but when the information on simply where to begin isnt within the game, I run into problems and brick walls.
What I wanna do next is unlock all of them...anything alien related doesnt interest me in the slightest, just the standard guys n gals
After the much lauded (by FD at least) so-called improvements to RNGineers in Beta 3.0, the fact is that FD have failed miserably to address one of the most negative aspects of engineers; that being the fact that some engineers are locked behind other engineers and then require a ridiculous amount of 'hoop-jumping' in order to access their services.
Whilst appreciating the fact that Sandro and his team have to account to shareholders for the number of hours players are logged-in, it is a disgrace that the above engineers merry-go-round has not only not been addressed, but also the fact that it appears not even to have been considered in Beyond. In fact, it has not been mentioned in any streams or posts by FD.
Going back as far as 2016, one of the biggest complaints about engineers was the fact that to unlock them was - and still is - a real pain, and continues to be so. And before the white knights and good old Max Factor - whose posts can sometimes be informative and whose opinions I respect - start to tell me, "You don't have to engineer if you don't want to...", let me just say that without engineered modules, most of the ships in ED will get blown out of space much sooner than later; something of which new players become aware very quickly.
I fell into the trap of engineers early on but have never progressed beyond G3 Dirty Drives or a G1 power plant and G5 FSD, etc, simply because to unlock Palin or the others seems to me to be a pointless time-sink and very disrespectful of the limited time in which I have to play and enjoy ED.
The fact that this aspect of engineers had not been improved in Beyond (instead we have material brokers with exorbitant exchange rates) is imo a disrespectful slant on those of us who have spent more than a thousand hours in game but who still have the integrity to avoid being forced by FD into certain activities in which we have no desire to participate.
As always, 'Sandro's law' says, "Play the game your way, blaze your own trail...as long as it is the way and the trail of which we approve and which we sanction."
Your thoughts please..even white knights!
There's a shipyard not far from Palin. You just have to look for it. It's not immediately obvious because it is planet-based. Can't remember the name but it is only one jump IIRC.
I think the unlock requirements are a good addition to a game that is known to have a steep learning curve.
You see them as hoops, but they are obviously meant to help players to become familiar with certain game mechanics. The separate exploration, combat, mining and trading pre-requisites are clear examples. You may not want to do some of those things, but for others it is way to get acquainted with aspects of the game they may not have known about or tried and in a more rewarding way than reading the game manual.
You characterising them as something Sandro has imposed to inconvenience you and other players doesn't help your argument and is unfair to Sandro.
I have no idea who Sandro is
That's a pile of total baloney! Your hypothesis would hold water, if, any of the actions actually required a brain to complete. I challenge you to show me one difficult mechanic used in unlocking engineers? Go on.. I'll wait...
I have no idea who Sandro is, but the unlocking is about as engaging as looking at a stone. Whomever designed it has no clue about 'gameplay'. (In my humble opinion)
