Details in Elite Dangerous

For me it's the fact, the in-game controls look almost exactly like a RL X52 pro. In combination with a Vive and proper positioned, it's immersion pure, especially with the appropriate in-game hand movements.

Canopy is not perfectly clear, when light comes from certain angles, you can see dust and scratches in the glass. It looks fantastic in VR, that thin layer that separates cozy cockpit from the vacuum of space. I actually would like the effect to be more noticeable :)

A lot of people would disagree, cause it often ruins screenshots ;)

Yea yea we all know this fatal mistake of David Braben giving sound department 90% of game budget and well rest is history. But hey at least one thing ED is best at right?

Melanie is the best. It makes arriving at a nicely green-lit Alliance station feel like coming home.

But let us not forget French-Caribbean Regis, who seems to prefer hitech Alliance stations, and Hermann the Alliance German, who likes industrial and refinery stations!

Wait do they have names? Oh man I love that lady

I once saw a distant star being gravitationally lensed into a ring whilst jumping into a system. It was fairly small ring that grew quickly to about twice its size before disappearing, I repeated the same jump to make sure I wasn't seeing things, it's awesome you can discover these sorts of physics demos in a game.

Edit: Oh and gravity really does effect your motion whilst in space, I once found myself close to a planet trying to recover some salvage and when I finished I noticed the planet was noticeably closer and accelerating.

Another thing is scale, those lines that pass you by in super cruise, they appear to delineate distance measurements and change in scale gradually as you get faster. This and the speed measurements allow you relate normal distance to solar system scale distances.

Go to a Neutron Star system and start flying from planet to planet. When you are a good distance from the NS and have it off to the left or right, look back at it and enjoy the distant stars dancing around it due to the gravitational lensing.

Has anyone got an explanation, why only the outer frame of the Windows freeze? I guess for obvious gameplay reasons (you wouldn't see a thing with silent running and a few heat sinks), but still...Details are also some sensible explanations we can come up.

It's an interesting question. I'll make a few points and counterpoints (while waiting for coffee).

Firstly, the outer edge of the canopy is at the interface with the metallic frame/hull and therefore it could be assumed heat conduction is greater, therefore it will cool faster. The counterpoint to this is that there would normally be a flexible (normally insulating) material between canopy and frame/hull to allow flexibility during strain. The counter-counterpoint to that is that material technology in the 34th century would be far beyond 21st century thinking so all of the above may be thrown out the window (cough cough ahem).

Secondly, engineering would say that to avoid canopy damage, we would prefer the canopy to heat and cool evenly to prevent undue strain (uneven forces/pressures), therefore what we see at the outer edges is not at all ideal. The counterpoint to this is that engineers would have also calculated that the maximum possible strain/force/pressure on the canopy is well below the breaking point (tensile/flexile/compressive failure) and therefore uneven heating/cooling simply doesn't matter.

My best and favourite explanation though... it looks cool :)

Edit: As to why only the outer edge freezes, well it should gradually freeze towards the centre. How about an assumption that transparent electrical heating within the canopy keeps the middle FOV clear, or radiant heating from the HUD area, even ultrasonics perhaps - while life support is still enabled.
