Development Update 1 - June

So right now, I can get NMS and Subnautica for a total price equaling what I paid for crappy Odyssey. If I pay slightly more I can get SpaceEngine as well. You live and you learn, even when you grow old. I'm about a Planck length from saying goodbye and thanks for all the fish. I'm not even gonna bother trying to get a refund, and who knows, in a couple of years Odyssey might even work in VR.

Folks, we know this is a sensitive subject to many of us, but please remember to stay civil and polite.

Constructive criticism is welcome but directly attacking employees is not on and against the rules.

The moderation team are working in the background and appreciate the emotions but as I said, please keep it civil.

Thanks all.

The shared missions is a big improvement IMO, impretty pleased with the update in general, I don't know if it was necessary to mention the longer roadmap, and then have no updates on it :) but looking forward to aging these missions properly with friends now. Great stuff guys

Interesting, perhaps my comments were a little complex.

How much has SC earned in not yet producing a product? ($300+ million, allegedly)
NMS had netted in the region of $100 million in its first 2 years of existence.
How much has ED netted since release?

Now, about those $100's of millions... They are already being spent on products / non-products so the market exists for a released product to compete... Sorry, I can't explain it any simpler.

Where exactly do you see these 100s of millions in Frontier's books? Please enlighten me? Because I'm lookiing at their books and I'm not seeing your 100s of millions....

As for SC, they've shown that there is a place for an unfinished game of very high quality. You can't disregard that, it is fact. Else why are players still buying ships with real life cash?

NMS is the outlier here, as it gives all it's updates small and major for free!! And is miles ahead of ED, although NMS graphicstake time to like.

To put this another way... If you are correct and there are 100s of milllions to be made, there would be far more players in the market.. But as there plainly is not 100s of millions, there aren't !!

It was you who mentioned Frontier...
Carry on... 🤷‍♂️

I don't blame the honesty of the post (CM can't be blamed at all) but the dishonesty of the released product.
Is everything forgiven already?
Oh definitely not. But we already knew that either they thought it was in a acceptable state for a release, or they didn't have enough time to finish / polish it, or they simply hit a wall and didn't know how to do better than that. At least now we know that while Odyssey may have been rushed, they also hit a wall from a technical standpoint (and that they're willing to be honest about it). I was just pointing out that the truth hurts sometimes.

You're contradicting yourself directly. There are hundreds of millions to be made, and already have been made.

What point exactly are you trying to make?

Planetary tech is COMPLETELY broken... very concerned you STILL havent even adressed topography !! and lack of "atmosphere" on sites like Jameson crash site or similar "sites" compared to Horizons is unaccepable. it just shows how little FDEV cares about it´s lore and how little they are able to make use of it. there is NO reason to explore since you cant even deliver on the obvious front , who do you expect to believe there is something new like alien sites / on foot thargoids / raxxla or AYNTHING worth out there ? The is NOT ! Odyssey is a fraud and you whole business is based on a lie ...

So ... we getting this tomorrow?

What info I am hoping for in the next dev update:

1. High level plan of Odyssey development (as opposed to bugfixing plan). What else can we expect? (If anything?). Granted you probably can't talk about everything.
2. Will there be any more Odyssey bugfixing patches between Patch 5 and Console Release?
3. Will you be working on fixing of the longstanding Horizons bugs? (Codex, megaship piracy etc.)

These are the 3 crucial bits of info I'd love to know about.

Truth should hurt the supplier not the customer. If this is the status they should decrease the price immediately and refund the difference to the people that already bought the product. They clearly sold a product that is not conformant. In other business companies run in debits and troubles. Instead here people even say thank you...
