As no ship is design to handle 1000ly travels. Ploting a route with no control over the type of stars to scoop is way too dangerous. Imagine 400ly route without scoopable star automatically selected will dry your fuel tank todeath.

such a narrow perspective.. the route may be planned to 1000ly, but there is nothing stopping you from checking ahead to systems along the route so as to confirm the ability to scoop or not. if not you find a jump that will and then re route.. not rocket science.. oh, actually, it kinda is lol

We have some some good news for planners of long journeys - V1.1 will also have a significant increase in the maximum distance for the route planner. We’re currently looking at extending this to 1,000 light years!

why not just stop this auto routing to everywhere within specific range and introduce route calculation only if there is selected target or only after you select your destination and click on "calculate route"?
that way there would be no LY limit required at all :)

+totally agree

We can agree to disagree. many of the 10's of thousands of alpha and beta's that already are in didn't have a problem with this because they wanted early access. Again you have the option to buy into a beta or to not buy into a beta.

for updates and free content

if you want early access to code you will pay for it(unless you already bought into Alpha, PBeta or Beta). If you want to wait until it is released it will be free.

Wings in march/april, no fix to stupid USS system till then?

I wonder when this placeholder is gonna get some effort put into making it a more than IQ 20 mission system. Excuse me, but the most dangerous mission the elite anaconda is a joke even with an eagle.

Why is there no workd from the devs on this. Its got the be the most boring mission system in my gaming history.

You honestly see no problem with this? I want to help them, a lot of people want to help them, they should want a LOT of people to help them, but before they can help them, they have to give them additional money?

W.T.F.?

Seriously.. NO OTHER company does this because it is in VERY bad taste. Every MMO and even just multiplayer games (BF4 for example) has a PTR (Public Test Realm) that is free to all gamers to download and try out the new content, give feedback, bug reports, etc.

go play star trek online.. the game where everyone can beta test and noone testing gets listened too or taken notice of, this is not 'every other game' this is Elite: Dangerous. Again, if you dont like it dont do it, this is an opertunity for folks who missed out on the initial playtesting of the game to be able to get inviolved and feel part of the developement. everyone else involved paid for the privelage, so i really see no issue with this.

Thank you for the openness its refreshing to see the startings of that from Frontier, finally.

I hope that new ships etc will figure in those new updates somewhere because I am not that interested in the multiplayer stuff myself, I just want to start playing the game after two years and at the moment I just cant do that much, its just not pulling me in.

I agree with posts above about there being no need or rational for separate paid beta testing versions, the game has been released, everyone is in the same boat now. If this messing around is going to extend the whole process I would rather see it all lumped into one product. But you will no doubt do what you want to do so fair enough, just get on with it please as quickly as possible.

I think I am becoming resigned to the fact that, either way, I wont be properly playing this game for another year yet. At least its being developed though so I guess there will be a decent game to play 'eventually', whenever that day finally comes. But I can see the time coming soon when I am just going to have to shelve this game for a several months unfortunately. I am starting to wonder if I wont be playing Star Citizen before I can properly enjoy playing this game.

Awfully long post saying nothing much about the actual content of the updates, but lots about paying. Disappointed.

HI, quick question , as i'm a alpha backer i should be able to test this but i can't seem to see a way of downloading /running or turning on the beta client, I've logged in to the store etc and checked the game options on lunch and ingame ?
ok i give can i have a clue :)

As per the OP, the process won't begin until February.

Michael, thanks for the info.

Is it possible to have feathure to save route after calculation, for the further usage ? It's will be enought to have up to 3-5 slots for it.

I hope that with this update, pilots will be able to manually add waypoints rather than relying on the route calculator. It would be especially useful now to add additional waypoints, rather than updating your route in the galaxy map every few jumps.

Although, if the route calculator is more powerful, perhaps it could be filtered to prefer or avoid certain classes of systems?

Oh wow. OK. Looking for victims, it seems. I remember beta testing games; I obviously didn't have to pay anything, that would be absurd. No matter how I look at it, this seems like an extremely shady practice. I'm baffled that they are doing something like this. Who in his right mind...

I was gonna volunteer to help them, but no thanks. That's seriously messed up.

I'm opening a new business btw, looking for employees. You can work for me if you pay me 15 bucks an hour.

Ok so what i'm reading in many posts is -

'well, i was thinking of offering my, very qualified, beta testing skills, and im willing to do it for free..'

but what im actually hearing is -

'its not fair, i want to get an early look at the new shiny, but i dont want to pay for it.'

and what im thinking is -

'would you like some cheese..?

Beautiful! ED is on the way to the affirmation of his character. In 2 years time, Elte of origin, FE2 and FFE will seem to us even farther

Slopey's does nothing that should not just be in the god damn game, and nothing they change can stop Slopeys, it would work even without current system info. They can't stop EliteOCR without making everything looking like a captcha.

Thrudds is also completely delinked from the game.

Can i ask how you know its Deliberate Sabotage... rather than the latest update changing something that might been a bug fix?

Actually, I don't. I logged in today, expecting to make that big killing ect., (Gill's in the zone this time for sure....) only to discover, after the update, the BPC wouldn't work.

God I wish ED would stop rewriting the Appconfig.xml file every update. It wipes the VerboseLogging="1" entry out and it's an absolute to convince BPC to write it back in. My attempts to put it in myself for some reason sometimes work, sometimes doesn't.

I'm sorry.

Excited!

Cant wait thank you for the heads up! I will be waiting with anticipation!

Hi everyone,

Following up on my post last week I will provide more information on our process moving forwards and dates for the next two major releases. As you’ve seen since the game’s initial release we have issued a number of point updates, the latest being 1.05 this morning. These are typically restricted to urgent and/or low risk changes and will continue on a regular basis as they allow us to respond as we need to. These aren’t scheduled in the same way as the major updates, but will be ongoing.

More significant updates allow us to add new features and content (as well as sweeping up a host of fixes and tweaks that haven’t been deemed suitable for the intermediate point releases).

Currently beta testing will be available for those who already have beta access for the main game. For players participating in the beta tests there will be a separate mechanism for playing so testing does not affect your game and that you can continue to play the retail version as well. Options for players currently without beta access to be able to purchase beta access will be available. Details will be made available nearer the time.

Depending on how the update Betas go in test, we expect them to be released to everyone a week or so after the Beta release.

As you all know we’re also working on paid expansions for the game and these will have their own beta periods as well, we’ll again make details available of how this will work as we near their release.

The first planned significant update will be 1.1 and will enter beta in the first week of February. We’ll be talking next week about how 1.1 will introduce a new way to collaborate with other players in the galaxy in preparation for 1.2’s major Wings update. We have some some good news for planners of long journeys - V1.1 will also have a significant increase in the maximum distance for the route planner. We’re currently looking at extending this to 1,000 light years!

Looking further ahead there will be a 1.2 update which is planned to enter beta testing in the first week of March. The focus for this update will be Wings and other multiplayer goodness. I’ll provide more detail in future updates.

Thanks

Michael
