Development Update 2 - July

Sure, im not playing much either. Ultimately they will do as they see fit. Stuff might change, it might not. 🤷‍♂️

The problem with Elite is that it's an everything game. You could have left 90% of features out and just developed Powerplay and the BGS and made them top quality, but people would only ask why x,y,z features aren't in the game. Agreed though, there's lots to like and as much as people complain about stuff not being fleshed out it the number of options give you a massive range of stuff to do. Had there just been limited set of features and people didnt like them, then there really is no game to play.

Even now some people are complaining about the lack of quality and bugs, and then in the same breath demanding to know what's coming next! 🤷‍♂️
More bugs? :)

I feel your pain, Garth - I do. As a middle aged man who's never actually played the likes of Battlefield or Call of Duty, the notion of this in Elite was confusing to me. And that confusion was immediately followed by frustration as every mission I took failed within seconds because I didn't know what I was doing.

What clicked for me was finding a tutorial series which treated it as a game of patience and covert operations, rather than a shoot-em-up. Have a look at these videos, and I think they'll help out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxYYtWUe1zoGDGjAvfW1gaw

Also, keep an eye on the thread here in the Odyssey section: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/the-great-pre-upgraded-gear-sharing-is-caring-thread.576352/

It can be very hit or miss depending on people grabbing stuff that's posted and not letting the thread know, but it can be an excellent way to get upgraded gear to give you more of a fighting chance in settlements. (Thanks to that thread, I have a G3 suit, rifle, and pistol and have yet to do any of the on-foot engineering!)

Good luck out there in the black, Commander! o7

So yes, over the past couple of weeks I picked up a Level 3 Artemis suit and a Level 2 Manticore Rifle just because it happened to be in one of the shops.

I refuse to randomly wander around looking for items, but in the 5 to 10 random times I wandered into the equipement store, both of these were on sale at the same store at the same time for whatever reason. I don't remember the context, or exactly what system I was in. I kind of did a double-take. The prices were higher, definitely 6 figures for the suit, but I am "loaded" and credits are easy enough to generate, so I snagged both. Completely random. The Artemis is supposed to be more of an exploration suit, but I have also read that it can have certain advantages for combat situations. Not sure how, maybe it flies better, or the oxygen lasts longer, IDK.

It certainly does seem to fly quite a bit better according to what I've seen from d2ea

They are definitely random and I've found weapons and suits at grade 3 pre engineered. It seems to change weekly. Best to not actively search but a good idea to check the stores when you stop by. That's how I found all the suits and such. I have never seen anything above grade 3.
The artemis suit seems to handle temperatures better at least but I wouldn't use it for combat. Maverick is a good middle ground to go for.

Fantastic!!!! thanks for posting the link to the stealth guides - I'd echo your sentiment that after viewing these, things really clicked for me too. Highly recommend a watch: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxYYtWUe1zoGDGjAvfW1gaw

As bad as that image looks, like I said in another thread, whomever took it to use it as evidence may not have been entirely truthful or at least, cherry picking (not been there, so can't say for sure), unless they also included the actual surface image without the DSS. The DSS picks it up, sure, but its not always clean cut. There's obvious tiling as I have outlined a few times.. and then there's tiling that's a non-issue, picked up mainly by the DSS

See Post #32 for an example of what I mean: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/question-for-future-planet-tech-upgrades.586727/post-9432676
True, that particular eyesore is probably specific to using the DSS. However, "don't use the scanners" is pretty much "stop exploring". You know, one of the three core gameplay styles (fight, explore, trade), for people who want to find and see the sights. That's why people are so upset about this. Also, it's the aspect where nothing else does what Elite Dangerous does, using our galaxy. There's no refuge.

On top of that, Odyssey brought weird timed ground sites (yep, sure expect forests to just pop out of existence), human sites everywhere again, an extremely punishing (went backwards for every miss) timing minigame (which also features the removable canister you're not allowed to have more than one of), the reroll that removed all the natural sites that had been found... and we're expected to praise the design intent.

Ok analogy time, I see planets as lets say delicious sizzling sausages.. and my friend sees them as bags of gristle offal and dead animal, both are correct. but why keep pointing out the obvious ED and EDO are games and unfortunately the ingredients sometime are painfully obvious.. like a piece of bone in your sausage, or a repeating tile pattern, but for every shard of bone there are hundreds of plump wonderful sausages waiting to be discovered .. mmm... sausage

anyone know when is the update?
Well it was supposed to be "later in the week" and a "non thursday release" so fdev was supposed to release on wednesday for a little "surprise". Once again it is all talk and no actions so still no update and we are thursday afternoon. Once again fdev proves to all that they do little but talk and promises but never backing it up. I wouldn't be surprised if update 6 didn't even come out at all this week...

I don’t think it did, though I wasn’t logged in this morning when they normally do maintenance so can’t be sure. Pity, because I was hoping to have a crack at a megaship cargo raid once it’s fixed.

Of course there was usual weekly maintenance. CG has ended, new station is damaged, etc.
FDev try to apply those Odyssey patches during that time to kill two birds with one stone, but that didn't happened this time.

Fair enough, there’s usually some kind of heads up but I didn’t see it this morning.
